This LRC user guide is an introduction to the some of the resources
available in the LRC for staff and students in the Broadcasting School.
This is NOT a comprehensive list of all that may be useful or relevant to
the study of Broadcasting. Instead it suggests places to start looking for
information about Broadcasting in the LRC.

Journals

Read the following currently subscribed JOURNALS for up-to-date


information relevant to your courses. Current issues are displayed on the
ground floor of the LRC while older issues are shelved upstairs in
alphabetical order in Bay 16 to Bay 22. Titles in bold are also available

Directories and Reference Books

The same Dewey numbers also apply to Reference material. Reference


materials are for use within the LRC only and are located on the upper
floor 1st Bay = 01. The following industry guides and directories are
shelved in the reference section. Also, use Credo Reference to search
many reference works such as dictionaries and encyclopaedias
electronically. This is available through the LRC website-

Videos/DVDs

There are various off air recordings, commercial videos and DVDs
available on the subject of broadcasting and media. Please search the
LRC catalogue to find the VT or DVD number. Use the pull-down menu
after searching to limit to Video or DVD Collection. Separate lists of
features films on video and DVD are also kept on top of the LRC counter
and the shelf above the DVD collection.

There are also numerous programmes on individual directors/film


makers/TV and film genres. DVD boxed sets usually include ‘making of ’
documentaries which cover all aspects of film production. The LRC has a
large collection of television and film documentaries filed under DVDR.

Broadcasting Student Archive

Student productions are archived in the LRC A/V room. They are
searchable on the LRC catalogue and can be borrowed at the issue desk.

CDs

There are various royalty (not copyright) free sound recordings for
broadcasting purposes available. Search the LRC catalogue using “Music
for broadcasting purposes” as a keyword to find out more about what is
available, or use the pull-down menu after searching to restrict to CD
collection. There is also a printed list kept by the CDs of what is available.

Online Resources

Various e-resources are available through the LRC web pages to help you
search for magazine and newspaper articles and find industry information.
