2015 YEAR IN REVIEW

MISSION
Progressive Arts Alliance deepens the learning
experience for students, educators, and artists
by designing and implementing innovative,
arts-integrated, project-based learning
programs.
Progressive Arts Alliance operates as an
arts-integration lab - constantly iterating,
learning, and evolving to deliver the most
relevant programs for the needs of students,
teachers, and the community.

THE
POWER OF
PARTNERSHIPS

PAAs partnership with the

Cleveland Metropolitan
School Districts PreK-8
STEM Network allows
PAA artists to collaborate
with classroom teachers
to integrate the arts into
STEM. In 2015, PAA served
over 1,300 CMSD students
each semester.

In 2015, PAA launched new

partnerships to expand our
arts-integration programs.
We partnered with the
Warrensville Heights City
School District to help
launch their new STEAM
initiative and also formed
a partnership with Paul L.
Dunbar Arts Enrichment
Academy in CMSD.

PAAs partnership with the

Cuyahoga County Public
Library System included
artist-led camps (pictured at
left), after-school programs,
and Saturday workshops
for students and adults
as well as professional
development training for
young adult librarians.

This year, PAAs partnership

with the Lifelong
Kindergarten Research
Group at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT)
Media Lab included training
workshops for our artisteducators. Pictured at right:

In 2015, PAAs collaborative

partnership with the
think[box] at Case Western
Reserve University enabled
our artists and students to
utilize the tools and studio
space in the universitys
innovation center.

UTILIZING TOOLS FROM

THE MAKER MOVEMENT
This year, more than ever, PAAs artisteducators utilized a variety of tools associated
with the Maker Movement in workshops in
our partner schools and libraries as well as
at our annual RHAPSODY Hip-Hop Summer
Arts Camp. This work included utilizing
laser cutters, 3-D printers, microcontrollers,
soldering irons, and more.

IMPACT

In 2015, PAA served over 4,500 students throughout Northeast Ohio.

PAA also employed a team of professional artists that includes both
full-time artist-educators and contracted artists. Each full-time artist
served approximately 1,000 individual students during the year.

ACCESS

Approximately 98% of all programming PAA provided in 2015 was

offered free of charge to students in our community, providing open
access to art tools and media equipment. We also increased access to
the arts by hosting eight family arts nights at our partner schools.

RESULTS

PAA documented an average increase of 60% in achievement in

arts application and vocabulary recall by students in our in-school
programs in 2015. Our partner classroom teachers also reported
students marked increases in collaboration and problem solving skills.

SHARING
OUR
WORK

PAA presented our work with MIT at the 2015 Digital Media Learning
Conference in Los Angeles. PAA also presented our arts-integration
work at the 2015 United States Society for Education through Art
Conference at the Queens Museum of Art in New York City.
