Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

This chapter deals with research problem and its settings that were used in this
particular study. Specifically, this tackles about background and purpose of the study,
theoretical framework, conceptual framework, statement of the problem, hypothesis,
scope and limitations of the study and definition of terms.

Background of the Study

Education is very essential to us, human. In fact, it does not stop because its a
life-long learning. It is a process wherein a certain teacher helps the student to open up
their eyes to new discoveries and to broaden their knowledge as well. It doesnt only
happen in school but anywhere. According to Nelson Mandela, education is the most
powerful weapon that can change the world. Its a system about to learn. And its also
the level of education that helps the people to earn respect and recognition. This is what
we truly need to survive in this modernize system of the world. Its something tangible
that no one can steal it from you, and something that you can go from bottom to top.
Education became more powerful because of the help of technology. Technology
that is really suited for 21st century. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques,
processes, etc. or it can be embedded in machines, computers, devices and factories,
which can be operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the workings of
such things. It helps us in different aspects. It has different usage in school like for
reporting, presentations, hands on works, examination and research. It also helps us to

be aware regarding the happenings inside and outside the country. It teaches us to
strengthen our skills with its help. Technology may be very rampant nowadays. Its being
used everyday by us, people. It has lots of benefits that could lead us to the road of
success.
Technology has become part of the daily basis in studying in St. John-Hill
Academy. This helps the student to improve their knowledge. It is also became a way
for them to be able to share the information to his/her fellow classmates. In this regard,
the teachers encourage themselves and the students to use technology for them to
make the teachings even better. Despite the said usage of technology, there are
frequent and severe, disciplinary actions and abusive usage which affect the study of
the students. Its in fact that this can also ruin our studies and goals in life if its
improperly used. Without the guidelines of the teachers regarding the proper use of
technology, the vices are likely to continue and retard the achievement of the school
and students. Need arises to examine the schools teaching system with the use of
technology hence this proposed research .

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to determine The Effects of Modern Technology to the Studies
of the High School Students in St. John-Hill Academy.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the respondents profile in terms of:
1.1 Age
1.2 Sex
1.3 Religion
2. Follow up questions
2.1 Does technology really help your study?
2.2 Can it be addictive?
2.3 How often do you use it?
2.4 Do you use it during class hours?
2.5 Do you really find it helpful to your study?

Significance of the Study

The findings of this study will redound to the benefits of the students and
teachers considering that technology plays an important role in modernize world. The

greater demand for the students with technology background justifies the need for more
effective, life-changing teaching approaches. Thus, schools that apply the
recommended approach derived from the results of this study will be able to train
students better. Administrators will be guided on what should be emphasized by
teachers in the school curriculum to improve students performance in technology. For
the researcher, the study will help them to uncover areas in the educational process that
many researchers were not able to explore.

The study will test the hypothesis that through technology, we do learn new things and
lead us to discoveries. But it doesnt only bring positive effect rather also definitely
brings negative effects.
