PARISH MESSENGER
If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not,you can cut it down(Luke 13:9)
Happy New Year! An eventful 2015 has gone by, we have stepped into the new year.
Rather, God has granted us another year to exist in His vineyard. It is not by our
merit, but by His grace. The Christians in Kerala is the only community which has
spread around the world. It is not spread by itself but God has scattered us to be His
witnesses in the entire world and to all nations and people. Some times we take it as
granted that it is because of our merit and ability that we are in the positions what we
are now. I believe God has a purpose in scattering the Kerala Christians in the entire
world. God has his own purpose and expectations from His people. We should never
forget the purpose and expectation that God has from each one of us. God has a
purpose when he is born in this world, which is to save the human being from the
sin. Similarly, God has a purpose in us. That purpose is to abide in Jesus to bear
fruit.
The man in the above mentioned parable selected his vineyard to plant a fig tree. He
took care of the vineyard and fertilised it every year. Usually, a fig tree is planted on
the way side, but this man decided to give this tree a unique and special place. He
liked the tree very much and therefore he came frequently to see it and expected it to
bear fruit at the right time. Though three years was more than sucient for the tree
bear fruit, the man was disappointed in not seeing the expected result. So he
ponders about cutting it down and saving the soil. The caretaker convinced the man
to give it one more year,to dig around the tree, to manure it, and to allow the tree to
grow and bear fruit. Thereby, we see that though the judgement for the tree is
certain, grace is shown in extending its time.
Our creator God is granting us another year to yield the Usually, a fig tree is
expected fruits. Gods expectation of the parish is His planted on the way side,
but this man decided to
expectation from each family, and member, as we are give this tree a unique
intrinsically set to form the body of Christ. Think of the love and special place.
and care God is giving to each one of us. We are accountable
for all the blessings and privileges God has given. We are
called to be mindful of Gods expectation about us, and be
faithful stewards in handling the time, talents, wealth and
our very life.
With prayers.
