We often read in the newspaper about the numerous road accidents that take place daily. It is
shocking to note that the number of accidents has increased tremendously. There are many causes of fatal
road accidents. One of the causes on accidents is overtaking recklessly. If a driver is speeding and
overtaking recklessly, it is highly risk that the vehicle may skid and caused an accident. They will hit
oncoming cars from the opposite direction. The drivers attitudes can also lead to an accident. Some
drivers are extremely impatience. They beat the red traffic light and do it without thinking their risk of
losing their lives. They think that stopping at the red signal is wastage of time and fuel. The red light
beaters not only jeopardize their lives but also the safety of other road users. Besides, many inconsiderate
drivers like to drive at high speed especially those who are driving heavy vehicles like lorries and express
busses. Some of the drivers are very selfish and do not care about other safety. They just speed up while
driving because in a hurry to go work or other place. They do not realize that their action might harm
others especially when they overtake cars. Many of accidents also happen due to the faulty vehicles. A car
which is not serviced may have problems such as the brakes and clutches which cannot work efficiently
and may cause accident. The poor road condition such as slippery when raining, muddy or have many
potholes can also harm drivers and motorcyclist.
There are many ways to overcome accidents. Firstly, more stringent checks on cars and vehicles.
The car and vehicles must be serviced regularly to maintain their best condition. Furthermore, heavier
fines shall be imposed so that they will abide the traffic rules. The government can organize the road
courtesy campaign in order to overcome the fatal road accidents. The campaigns seeks to remind all road
users to show greater consideration and courteous behavior, to exercise more tolerance and practice more
patience on roads. Lastly, better roads can also prevent accidents on the road. So, the Works Department
(JKR) must do maintenance of roads and repair damages on roads immediately before more accidents
happen.
