nomadicclanandforcedintoslavelaborundertheGrandVizier
Ozymandias.Hequicklybecamearebelandwasevenkilledbyagentsof
Ozymandias,onlytoberevivedsoonafterduetohismutantpowers.
Believinghimself"strong"andblessed,EnSabahNurdiscoveredRama
TutstechnologyunderneathEgypt,andsoondestroyedtheEgyptianrulers
aroundhimandtwistedOzymandiasintothebeingheistoday.

Apparently,ApocalypsewoulduseRamaTutstechnologyto"regenerate"
forlongperiodsoftime,becomingmoreandmorepowerfulwhen
awakening.Hewasalsoknowntohavetraveledaroundtheworldduring
theseancientyears,appearingtovariousprimitiveculturesastheirdeath
god.Atsomepoint,whentravelingthroughMongolia,Apocalypse
encounteredaspaceship
abandonedbytheplanetjudging
aliens,theCelestials.Histravels
thenbecamefueledbyasingle
mindedpurposetofindthekey
thatwouldunlockthesecretstothis
alientechnology.Hefounditinthe
personofNathanSummers,then
wanderingvariouserasasthe
Traveler.Thetwofought,and
althoughApocalypsewasnearly
killed,hewassavedby
Ozymandiasandtakentothe
Celestialship.Apocalypsesblood
hadbecomeinfectedwith
Summerstechnoorganicvirus
duringthebattle,andtheinfection
allowedApocalypsetonotonly
transformintoanevenmorepowerfulbeing,buttoalsointerfacewiththe
Celestialship,claimingitashisown.
Anotherreawakeningoccurredduringthe12thcenturyCrusades.
Apocalypse'sregenerationchamberwasthoughttobeatempleofgreat
power,andwassoughtoutbytheBlackKnightandhisfriendBennetdu
Paris,whomApocalypserecognizedasamutant,andcreatedhimintothe
beingknownasExodus.
Later,Apocalypsesurfacedinlate19thcenturyEngland,aboutthesame
timeDarwinwasproposinghis"survivalofthefittest"theories.Apocalypse,
searchingforunderlings,metthescientistNathanielEssex,whoseown
desireforscientificknowledgeledhimtoforeseetheabundanceofmutants
thatwouldoccurinmoderntimes.Apocalypseearnedtheallegianceof
Essex,turninghimintothebeingnowknownasMisterSinister,butwas
soondefeatedbythetimelostmutants,CyclopsandPhoenix.

owncreation,theAllianceofEvil.AlthoughheneverusedhisAlliance
again,ApocalypsesoonformedtheHorsemenofApocalypsetoplague
humankind,whenhisideasto"cull"humanityinorderfortheriseofmutant
supremacywerebeginning.HefoughtXFactoragain,andevencaptured
theirmemberAngeltoturnintohisHorsemanofDeath,althoughhe
defected,tobelaterreplacedbyXFactor'sally,Caliban.Later,Apocalypse
infectedCyclops'son,Nathan(whowouldbecomeCable)withthetechno
organicvirus(whichwouldalsoinadvertentlycreateCablescounterpart,
Stryfe,aswellasensurehisowninfectionwhenhemetCableasthe
Traveler)butwasdefeatedbyXFactorinfinalbattle.
ApocalypseabandonedhisHorsemeninfavorofhisRidersoftheStorm
(a.k.a.theDarkRiders)andlaterbecamethetargetoftimetravelingStryfe,
who,asacloneofNathan,wasraisedbyApocalypseinahorrificalternate
futureinwhichApocalypsehadrisentopower.Eventually,Stryfeleft
Apocalypsewitheredanddyingonthesurfaceofthemoon,wherehewas
confrontedbyhisDarkRidersandleftfordead.
Later,ApocalypsetriedtorevivehisteamofHorseman,transformingthe
HulkintoWar,untilHulkbrokefreeandwenthisownway.Overtime,
ApocalypsemanagedtorecreatehisHorsemen,transformingrecognized
heroesandvillainsintoversionsofWar,Pestilence,Famine,andDeath,
(specificallyDeathbird,Caliban,theXMensassociate,RoryCampbell,and
Wolverine.)
Aboutthesametime,Apocalypseapparentlyencounteredandagreedto
leadafactionoftheSkrulls,whowereinvestigatingtheirownrace's
mutations.ApocalypseledtheseSkrullsinfinallyassemblingwhat
Apocalypsecalled"theTwelve,"mutantswhoApocalypsewouldabsorb
powersfrom,givinghimgodlikeabilitiestorecreatetheworldin
Apocalypse'simage.ManyoftheTwelveweremembersoftheXMen,and
theteamassembledtostopApocalyspe.Intheprocessofabsorbingallof
theTwelvespowersintohimself,CyclopswasmergedwithApocalypse
insteadofNateGrey,whomApocalypsepreferred.Unabletocopewiththe
influxofpowerduetoCyclops'involvement,Apocalypserejectedthepower,
escapingandabandoninghismission,althoughCyclops'bodywas
seemingkilledintheprocess.
Soon,PhoenixandCablelefttheXMeninordertofocustheirattentionona
searchforSummers,whomtheybelievedtostillbealive.Theytracked
ApocalypsetohisbirthplaceinEgypt,whereSummers,nowan
amalgamationofhimselfandApocalypse,foughtthem.Ultimately,Jeanwas
abletophysicallyripApocalypsefromSummers'bodyusinghermental
powers,andCabledestroyedApocalypse'sessencewithhisowntelepathic
powers.
However,Apocalypsedidnotdie,butmanagedtoregenerateinatombin
Akkaba.HeimmediatelysetaboutcreatingmoreHorsemen,thistime
recruitingGazer,Sunfire,andPolaris.GambithadalsosoughtApocalypse,
hopingtobeamolefortheXMenbutbecomingtwistedbyApocalypse
instead.WhenApocalypsespoweronceagainwasathispeak,he
confrontedtheXMenattheirmansionheadquarters,whichhadsince
becomeacampofrefugeesfromtheeventsofMDay.Despiterecruiting
severalrefugeestohiscause,ApocalypsewasforcedtoretreatbytheX
MenandtheAvengers.Ultimately,itwasrevealedthatApocalypsehad
neverbeenabletousetheCelestials'technologywithouttheirnotice,and
Apocalypsebelievedthattheywouldsoonexacttheirretribution.
Apocalypsesoughtdeathasanescaperoute,buttheCelestialsappeared,
resurrectinghiminordertospirithimawayfortheirjudgement.
