Perfect presentation of
process information
System 800xA Extended Operator Workplace, based on 800xA Process
Portal, projects a perfect picture of industrial process data on a contoured,
large-screen overview. Unlike many large displays that seem designed
merely to impress control room visitors, the Extended Operator Workplace
gives operators the functions that matter most to them: an outstanding
interactive, high-resolution display, full and easy-to-read information, an
intuitive interface, effective alarm and trend display management, process
interaction, and ergonomics that raise safety, comfort and efficiency to new
levels.
Senior management can also benefit from the Extended Operator Workplace design. As well as helping operators make better decisions faster, its
installation in existing control rooms does not require extensive rebuilding,
thus saving time and costs. Floor-space requirements are also reduced
compared with traditional back-projection solutions.
A typical control room configuration is comprised of a two-projector workplace with a 2.1 x 0.8 meter screen, 2560 x 1024 pixel resolution and up
to four console-mounted 21 monitors, or a three-projector set-up with a
3.1 x 0.8 meter screen, 3840 x 1024 pixel resolution and up to six 21
monitors, all fully motorized. Larger systems with four or more projectors,
higher resolution, more monitors, etc., are also possible.

The new modern control room is a reality. System 800xA Extended Operator
Workplace provides superior ergonomics for process operators and improved
economy for plant owners.
A typical Extended Operator Workplace set-up comprises a large, high-resolution
screen contoured for optimal visibility and four to six monitors integrated within
a motorized, height-adjustable operator desk system. The large screen normally
displays an overview of the process, but can incorporate and display any type of
information, e.g. a drawing or video. The monitors are typically reserved for
process displays from different parts of the plant, but can also feature other data
displays, e.g. alarm lists, trends, operator instructions and other documentation.
All information is selected according to individual needs, and can be moved
freely between monitors or can be spread out over several monitors for enhanced
visibility.
Multiple monitors provide more viewing space and better placement of important information. Applications can be moved from one monitor to
another or be displayed simultaneously over several.

The Extended Operator Workplaces small footprint saves expensive floor space. Having all the process
information visible at the same time also makes it easier to merge several control rooms into one.

Superior ergonomics
are a good investment in operator
well-being and
efficiency
At the end of the day, it is the human operator who must decide on the best
possible course of action. Maximizing the collaboration between the control
system and the operator is essential. Based on extensive behavioral studies in
control environments, the Extended Operator Workplace brings out the best in
operators in both calm and stressful situations.
Its superior ergonomics create a relaxed and efficient working environment. Since
operators come in all shapes and sizes, motorized operator tables give users the
freedom to adjust sitting and standing heights for optimal comfort. This results in
operators at the ready, able to quickly and effectively manage any abnormal
process situation. Well-designed accessories such as armrests and cup-holders
further promote well-being and efficiency, and allow greater personalization of
individual workplaces.

Personalized displays reduce the time it takes to see and act on important information.
Alarms happen and when they do they need handling with speed and precision.
The Extended Operator Workplace simplifies the alarm management process.
The combination of the seamless large workplace display plus multiple monitors
makes key alarm and trend displays highly visible. Other alarms that are relevant
only during certain specified periods/conditions can be hidden by the Alarm
Hiding function so that operators are not distracted unnecesarily.
Alarm management is smooth and intuitive. For example, if a fieldbus-connected
instrument detects an internal error and reports this via an alarm, the operator
sees the basic details in the alarm list. Opening the detailed view further
reveals exactly what the problem is and how to solve it. As System 800xA
Extended Operator Workplace integrates with market-leading maintenance
systems, it is a simple matter for the operator to submit a fault report with details
of the corrective action, receive a work-order confirmation and then see that
maintenance staff rectify the fault without delay.

System 800xA Extended Operator Workplace projects a perfect picture of industrial process data on a seamless, large-screen overview, and provides superior
ergonomics for operators. All information is easily readable for full operator
interaction and effective alarm management, both of which promote safe, fast
and correct decision-making. The system offers multiple monitor support and
the entire console is fully motorized for maximum user comfort and efficiency.
Installation in existing control rooms eliminates the need for extensive rebuilding.
Footprint requirements are also reduced compared with traditional backprojection solutions.

Workplaces large-screen overview, easy-to-read information,
superior comfort, and effective
alarm management reduce time
to decisions and action and help
secure a safe operation.
