DISCUSSIONS

Discuss on the findings and relations to the theory and objective of

experiment.
3.Must shows the sample of calculation if necessary
4.Any citing must tally with those in the REFERENCES
From the results of our experiment using Horiba Automotive Emission Analyser, it is
recorded that 0.01% of carbon monoxide is released from the Mercedes Kompressor. The
value does not exceed 3.5% which is in the permissible limit. The reading for hydrocarbon
test recorded the value of 22 ppm which is still in the permissible limit as it does not exceed
600 ppm. The result for carbon dioxide test is 26.64%.
For diesel engine , the recorded value for carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon tests are
0.02% and 6 ppm respectively in which both are in the permissible limit. On the other hand,
the recorded value for carbon dioxide is 4.06%.
The results of this experiment shows that the car is complied to standards stated in the
Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Schedule of Environmental Quality (Control of Emission From Petrol
Engines) Regulations 1996.

ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (CONTROL OF EMISSION FROM PET ROL

ENGINES) REGULATIONS 1996

Normally in Malaysia, this equipment was applied by Road Transport Department to

do inspection and ensure the consumer vehicles are following their standards. In long terms,
alternative fuels vehicles (AFV) and electric vehicles (EV) are likely to replace by using
petroleum fuels. The reason is it can decline oil reserves and increasing energy demand may
lead to rising petroleum product services

To measure three component of gas emissions that affect to air surroundings which is carbon
dioxide, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide

To create a hands-on-experience in using the Horiba Automotive Emission Analyser

To understand and relate the regulations related to the gas emissions

FIFTH SCHEDULE
[Regulation 11]
EMISSION TEST FOR PETROL ENGINE IN USE
1. This test shall be carried out by using a Carbon Monoxide or Hydrocarbon analyser.
2. The test procedures shall be as follows:
(a) accelerate the engine to a moderate speed with no load, maintain for at least 15 seconds,
then return the engine to idle speed;
(b) while the engine idles, insert the sampling probe into the exhaust pipe as deeply as
possible but in any case for not less than 300mm;
(c) wait for at least 20 seconds and take the reading of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbon as
given by the analyser.
