Program Description: To share with adults looking for the best apps and share best practices in using
media with their children.
Needs for Program: Baltimore County Public Schools has started the process from elementary- high
school every child will have a device that they will use to assist them in school. The number of children
and families that use media is continuing to grow as well as the digital divide. Libraries need to provide
leadership and guidance as parents navigate digital media with their child. The Association for Library
Service to Children has adopted a position that librarians need to be media mentors. What that means
is we support children and families in their media use and help them provide resources.

Program Description: The program would begin with a short power point presentation. In the
presentation there will be information given from the Fred Rogerss foundation and also Tap, Click and
Read book by Lisa Guernsey, and Michael L. Levine. I will then show them different apps and model how
to use these app with their children. Some of the apps will be eBooks as well as educational apps. The
last part of the program will be sharing sights that review apps. The apps that will be shared will be for
tablets both apple and android. The parents will walk out of the program with paper that will have
suggested apps and costs as well quality websites that review apps.

Plan and create the PowerPoint


Review apps to share at meeting
Make the evaluation and run them off
Paper with review sights webpages and apps with cost page
Put on Website and make sure there is a news release for this program. Tweet it, and Facebook
Evening: Make sure that the chairs set up, and projector is set and ready and hand outs are
available.
7. Have box to collect or people to collect the evaluations at end of program.
Evaluation: I will have a written evaluation for parents to fill out.

Library Mission: Our library mission is to provide opportunities to explore, learn, create and connect. In
our strategic Plan X we have clear goals and objectives that fit with this program. The Goal is VII.3:
Foster Trans literacy: focus on technology and the digital divide. Objective: Be a leader in providing
technology programs to library customers at all levels of expertise. This program fits in well with this
goal and objective.

Everyone wants to provide quality educational apps for your children, but how do you choose what is
best? Where do you find reviews on apps?
The Owings Mills library is hosting a program on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 6:30 on how to
choose quality apps for younger children. Please come and join us for this informational meeting. The
program includes information for Apple iOS, and Android tablets and phones.
