Description:

A web page to showcase a logo I created

Programs Used:

Objectives:

Course

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS

Process:
I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I made my
HTML and included all of my text and logo information there. I
then created a separate CSS document to make my style choices.
I was able to learn how to make a navigation bar at the top of
the web page and if you click the links they will take you back to
different pages on my blog. I also decided to put a background
image on the web page and make the background behind the
text transparent.

Comprehend image sizing and how to scan a high-quality image

Process:
For this ad I only used Microsoft Word to design it. I knew that
I wanted to do a toy drive ad so I first found a picture that I
wanted to use and I scanned it onto my computer. I then decided
on my fonts and found a placement for my title and body copy
where it would fit nicely with my scanned image. To complete my
color scheme I added a lime box underneath my title and some
green lines separating the event information.

Logos
Description:

Logos I created to advertise my photography

Programs Used:
Illustrator

Objectives:

Course

Instructor
Ben Pingel

Use Illustrator tools to create and draw logos. Gather opinions

from people about the logos to learn about market research.

Process:
I started by sketching out ideas and then using Illustrator to
design the logos. I designed three different logos with different
color schemes and I asked peoples opinions on which one they
liked the best. I narrowed down my options to one logo and
went to work from there. I easily designed a shutter to put on the
side of the logo and then I choose fonts that went well together. I
then arranged the elements and ended up with the logo.

Learn the basic photography and editing skills. Use layers to

design text, and repeating graphic elements Photoshop.

Process:
For editing my photo, I used levels to bump up the highlights and
then used selective coloring to change the flowers from purple to
blue. I then used the color replacement tool to make the bee the
same orange as used in my text. I know that its usually a rule
not to center align text but I decided to break the rule because it
looks better.

Create a new logo to fit a company image and use it to design a

business card.

Process:
I started by sketching out the ideas that I had for my logo and
business card. After choosing the design I liked the best I created
my logo in Illustrator by using the pen tool and typography
elements. I then went to InDesign where I designed my business
card by placing my logo on the back and contact information on
the front. To keep my design consistent I also added the leaf part
of my logo to the front of the business card.

Design and use a new logo to make letterhead for a company.

Keep designs simple with light watermarks and plenty of white
space.

Process:
I started by creating a completely new logo in Illustrator. From
there I went to InDesign and began creating my letterhead. I
used one of the fonts from my logo for the contact information
and I took the purple from the logo and used it for the dividing
line. I also added a leaf watermark to the bottom right to keep
the design consistent.

Flier to promote a graduate leadership conference

Programs Used:
InDesign, Photoshop

Objectives:

Course
COMM 130-06

Instructor
Ben Pingel

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve flier layout.

Process:
To start I drew out four sketches of what I wanted my design to
look like. I then went to InDesign and created a draft of one of
my sketches. I made sure that my text was aligned and that the
design had plenty of white space. I also took my image and cut
out the background so that the design wasnt so blocked out.

Programs Used:

Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using

masks.

Process:
When starting this project I kept in mind what I wanted my
color scheme to be. I choose two pictures that would work well
with the idea I had in mind and with the color scheme. I then
proceeded to mask one of the images in Photoshop so that the
background would blend into the other picture. After I finished
blending I then added typography to finish the design.

Brochure
Description:

A full bleed, duplex, offset brochure advertising a bakery

Programs Used:
InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

Objectives:

Course
COMM 130-06
Visual Media

Instructor
Ben Pingel

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Choose

quality images to use in the design and learn how to clip photos.

Process:
TI started by making some sketches and from there I designed
my logo for the bakery in Illustrator. I choose my color scheme
and choose pictures that went well with it. Once the pictures
were decided on I wrote my body copy so that it would go along
with some of the pictures I choose. After all of this, I opened
InDesign to begin designing my brochure. In Photoshop I cut out
three images to use on the brochure and changed the colors on
the front picture so it went better with my color scheme.
