CHAPTER I: PROBLEM ANALYSIS

A. INTRODUCTION
K-pop (an abbreviation of Korean pop; Hangul: ; RR: kei-pap) is a musical
genre originating in South Korea that is characterized by a wide variety of audiovisual elements.
Although it comprises all genres of "popular music" within South Korea, the term is more often
used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music covering: dancepop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, metal, hip-hop music and R&B.
In 1992, modern K-pop was ushered in with the formation of Seo Taiji & Boys, whose
successful experimentation with different music styles had sparked a paradigm shift in the music
industry of South Korea. As a result, the integration of foreign musical elements has now
become a common practice in the K-pop industry.
Kpop is life. It's everything, it's a source of entertainment, it's a way to express yourself, it's a
gateway into another culture, another world. Kpop is everything you could ever want. Hot guys,
pretty girls, epic dance moves, music that makes you feel what you want to, and the knowledge
that even though most things are scripted, they're real, these idols. They care about their fans in a
deep way and I just don't think you can get that anywhere else. Kpop is something special, it
gives back. It's a safe-house, a get-away, a place to be welcomed with open arms into this society
of others who also love it. It's knowing that you're not alone, you'll never be alone, and knowing
that you're helping others who feel alone by sharing this that's what's so important. Kpop, in
short, is life.
B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
At the end of the research, researchers should answer the following problem:
-

Why KPOP catches the attention of Filipino people?

Why they change their personalities, personal appearance, and attitude?
What is the advantage and disadvantage of being a KPOP lover?
How much the percentage between the KPOP lovers into Haters?
Do the Filipino people already forget the Filipino cultures because of KPOP?
