Face-to-Face Staff Development

Google Classroom
Summary Report

Impact Overview
This staff development was created to deliver instruction and guidance for implementing Google
Classroom. This workshop was delivered to teachers, ranging from 3rd grade to 5th grade, at
Blackshear Elementary. There were a total of 19 teachers from various subject areas; my field
supervisor, Ericka McIntosh; assistant principal, Dee Treadwell, and technology coach, Cassie
Dyal. The objective of this workshop was to deliver instruction to increase the confidence of
teachers who implement Google Classroom, as well as encourage use of Google Classroom
among teachers at the elementary level. This workshop was planned based on information and
resources obtained through the technology coach. To launch the workshop, I included a
beneficial introduction video of Google Classroom. Then, I led the participants through a step by
step tutorial with them being students. This gained their interest when they saw first-hand how
engaging Google Classroom can be for students. The participants were guided directly through
the required steps in order to complete viewing announcements, as well as completing and
submitting as assignment. Next, teachers converted over to teacher-view to create a class and
post announcements and assignments within their newly created Google Classroom. I delivered
this workshop during a professional development day for this school. The only challenge
throughout this workshop was time constraints. I only had an hour to deliver and work with the
teachers due to other scheduled events for the participants. However, we covered all aspects and
since teachers did not have an abundance of time to experiment with Google Classroom; I

followed up through email discussions. Through collaboration with Mrs. Cassie Dyal, the
planning of this workshop involved about 14 total hours.

Analysis and Interpretation of Data

By summary of the table above, the workshop proved to be an effective staff development
training. I was very pleased with the positive attitudes toward Google Classrooms. Verbal
comments proved that the teachers were engaged and saw benefits to implementing this tool
within their own classrooms. I feel this training was successful. Many teachers also portrayed an
interest in furthering their training for Google Classroom, as well as other Google tools. Mrs.
Dyal stated that this training was an exceptional foundation for trainings that she had planned in
the near future. I was also impressed with the feedback I received weeks after the training.
Teachers have emailed me for assistance, as well as shared experiences they have had while
implementing this beneficial tool.

Recommendations for Revisions

In my opinion, there is always room for improvements. The first improvement I would make is
time, if at all possible. I would have liked to have actually had a chance to look at units with
teachers in order to make suggestions on how they could incorporate Google Classroom. I would
also like to add a follow up training where teachers could share experiences and ideas with the
group in order to evaluate the benefits of this training. This would also give teachers the
opportunity to share and collaborate.
