HINDI CONVERSATION PROGRAM

AIMS

This program is designed to enable students to

 Use Hindi to communicate with others

 Understand and appreciate the cultural
contexts
 in which Hindi is used.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This Program focuses on basic linguistic

and communicative structures of the Hindi language.
Students will be introduced to various aspects of
Hindi Language and learn to communicate in simple
everyday situations and personal interaction. The
program will adopt an integrated approach to
language learning and will emphasize equally all
four skills of reading writing listening and speaking
as well as the acquisition of Grammar structures and
vocabulary.

Audio and video materials will also

be used to supplement the textbook and to provide
students with a better insight into Hindi. The
program will also attempt to help students optimize
their learning by teaching them vital strategies for
language learning and language use. This should, in
turn, allow students to develop greater learner
autonomy.

TARGET GROUP

This program is only for students without any prior

knowledge of the language

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

25 sessions of 2 hours each spread over three

months( only week ends)
 1. Hindi scripts and phonetics
2. Hindi language proficiency

PROGRAM CONTENT

The program constitutes a practical

introduction to Modern Hindi with a study of its
script, phonetics and Grammar. The course has two
modules as listed above. The first module deals with
the Devanagari Script its transliteration and the
Hindi Phonetic System. The second module is an
Introductory study of Hindi Grammar accompanied
by exercises in Practical language proficiency,
focusing on oral presentation and listening and
reading comprehension.

APPROACH

The program covers the four skills(speaking, reading

listening and writing) with an emphasis on speaking.
To facilitate acquisition of the language form, the
syllabus follows a systematic grammatical
progression. The learners work as a group with
teacher and, to maximize talking time, in pairs or
smaller groups.

A variety of learning materials is used, from Text

books to videos.

Real Life situations & needs are addressed in the

entire program and outdated concepts are not
dealt or explained.

By the end of the program you will:

 Be able to communicate in very basic

everyday life situation including greetings,
daily activities, finding your way, telling the
time and date, making simple purchases,
ordering a meal etc.
 Be able to understand very simple oral and
written texts and ascertain specific
information on simple topics.
