1 Visa Application
Once a students application to MUIC has been approved, a letter of
acceptance, along with a letter for a visa application, will be issued.
International students require a Non-Immigrant Education Visa
(category ED) to study in Thailand. Applications should be submitted
to any Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate well before departing for
Thailand.
Documents required:
1. Visa application form
2. Passport, with a remaining validity of not less than 6
months
3. Two recent 4 by 6 cm full-face photos
4. A letter of acceptance/admission from MUIC
5. Evidence of adequate finances as determined by the Royal
Thai Embassy
Note: Students who plan to study at MUIC for just one trimester will
be granted a single entry visa. Students who plan to study at MUIC
for more than one trimester can apply for a single entry visa or a
multiple entry visa. Each entry allows a 90-day period of stay in
Thailand. This can be extended to cover the full period of studies.

2 Visa Extension
Foreign students with student visas must obtain supportive letters
from the Student Exchange Unit office each time they apply for a visa
extension. MUIC full-time students who have been staying in
Thailand under a parents visa will need supportive letters from us for
visa extensions once they are 20 years old. The current visa must
have at least 21 days left before expiration at the time of application.
Documents required and process:
1. Contact the Student Exchange Unit office to complete a
MUIC Visa Extension Request Form.
2. Give the form to the Finance office, pay a fee of 100 baht,
and then request a receipt of paid tuition fee from them.
3. Make 1 copy of each of the following: first page of
passport, visa page, departure card, and latest immigration
stamp.
4. Submit all documents to the Student Exchange Unit office.
5. Staff will give 2 more documents to students for preparing
their information as follows;
A. Complete an Application for Extension of
Temporary Stay in the Kingdom (TM.7) and glue
a photo (4 x 6 cm.) onto the form.

8.

Give the house owner a Notification Form for

House-Master (TM.30) and tell the owner to
complete the form, sign their name on both sides
of the form. They must also provide a copy of
their ID card and a copy of their house
registration along with their signature on all
copies. If this form and supporting documents
are not submitted, the staff at the immigration
office will not allow students to extend their visa.
Two days after completing step 5, contact the Student
Exchange Unit staff to pick up MUIC letters of certification
and also the other relevant documents.
Take all documents to the Immigration office at
Nakhonpathom by taxi or MUIC van, if scheduled.
After reaching the Immigration office, take a queue
number first, and wait for staff to call your name. Submit
all documents and pay a fee of 1,900 baht.
Before leaving the Immigration office, check to see that
your passport has a new stamp with the appropriate
ending date.

Note: The visa extension fee is 1,900 THB. In addition, the overstay
fine is 500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. If the
overstay exceeds 40 days, the student must leave the country as well
as pay a fine of 20,000 baht.

3 90-Day Notification
Once the Immigration Bureau has admitted students into the country,
their passport will be stamped with the conditions of entry. One such
condition is the 90-Day Notification.
Students who stay in Thailand for 90 days without leaving the
country are required to report their address at a local Immigration
Office. If you are travelling in Thailand when your 90-day report is
due, you may submit your report at any Immigration office.
Documents required:
1. 90-Day notification form TM.47 available at the Student
Exchange Unit office or www.immigration.go.th
2. Official passport
HU

Note:

The notification can be done 15 days before or 7 days after

of the due date. This notification period is subject to

change.

If students stay in the kingdom over 90 days without

notifying the Immigration Bureau or notifying the
Immigration Bureau later than the specified period, a fine
of 2,000 baht will be charged. If a student who does not
submit the 90-day notification is arrested, they will be fined
4,000 baht.
If students leave the country and then re-enter, the
counting of the next 90-day period starts at 1 in every
case.
The notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days is
in no way equivalent to a visa extension.

4 Re-Entry Permit
Students holding a single entry visa who plan to spend their holidays
outside of Thailand need to apply for a single or multiple re-entry
permit before their departure. Otherwise their visa will be invalidated
and they will have to go through the whole process of getting the
proper student visa at a Thai Embassy or Consulate outside Thailand.
The re-entry permit can be obtained at the local Immigration Bureau,
airport and border.
Documents required:
1. Re-entry Permit form TM.8 available at the Student
Exchange Unit office or www.immigration.go.th
2. One recent 4 by 6 cm full-face photo
3. Make 1 copy of each of the following: first page of
passport, visa page, departure card, and latest immigration
stamp.
4. 1,000 baht for a single entry or 3,800 baht for a multiple
entry permit.

5 Change Visa Type

In case students have had their non-immigrant education visa
cancelled, it would be possible for them to change their status in
order to be allowed to continue to study at MUIC. However, on the
date they apply for a change of status, they must have 25 days or
more left on their entry stamp. Otherwise, they will be required to
leave the country to re-enter with enough time to change their
status. MUIC students holding tourist visas and on-arrival visas may
also change their status. However, they will need to get supportive
letters from the Student Exchange Unit office as well.
Documents required and process:
1. Contact the Student Exchange Unit office to complete a
MUIC Visa Form.
5. Staff will give students an Application for Change of Visa
(TM.86). Glue a photo (4 x 6 cm.) onto the form.
6. Two days after completing step 5, contact the Student
Exchange Unit staff to pick up MUIC letters of certification
and also the other relevant documents.
7. Take all documents to the Immigration office at
Chaengwattana by yourself.
8. After reaching the Immigration office, take a queue
number first, and wait for staff to call your name. Submit
all documents and pay a fee of 2,000 baht.
9. Before leaving the Immigration office, check to see that
your passport has a new stamp that shows you have
a 3-month visa.

6 Request a cancellation letter for further study or to work

in Thailand (full-time students only)
Students who have graduated or will graduate from MUIC and who
hold a Non Immigrant Education Visa from Mahidol University, and
who would like to apply for further study in another institute or to
work in Thailand, are required to contact the Student Exchange Unit
office to request a cancellation of visa letter, which will be required
by the new university or the place where you will work. If you do not
get this letter, you may be fined 500 baht per day at the Immigration
office from the day you have graduated from MUIC until the day you
have been accepted at the other institute or organization.
Note: It is possible for you to leave the country to apply for a new
visa at a Royal Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate outside Thailand and
follow the process of the institute or organization.

7 Visa Type Correction

Students who would like to correct the date of the Immigration entry
stamp in their passport and who have entered Thailand by air must
return to the airport to get the date corrected. In the case of entering
Thailand by a land border students must return to that land border to
get their entry date corrected.
8 Loss of passport
The loss of a valid passport is a serious matter. To replace the
passport, students must report the loss to a police station close to
where the loss took place or to any Tourist Police office (call 1155)
and must apply for a new passport in person at the embassy or
consulate of your nationality in Thailand.
Documents required and process:
1. Report the loss to a police station. Please bring a
photocopy of your student ID card and a photocopy of your
passport information page (if available).
2. Bring the police report with you to the embassy or
consulate of your nationality in Thailand.
3. Follow their processes.
Note:

Please consult the embassys or consulates website before

you go there.
Students who lose a passport may apply for a copy of their
immigration stamp which shows permission to stay in the
Kingdom by using the Lost Passport Form.
They need to submit this form with their new passport and
a certifying letter from the agency who issued the
passport/or the Documents Substitute to Passport and the
evidence of reporting of the loss to the police.

Please also note that:

When filling out any of the aforementioned application

forms, students must use their full name as it appears on
their passport.

Students may check the Immigration Bureaus website for

more details and inquire about any new steps and/or
changes in the process. www.immigration.go.th Current
visa information is also available from the staff at the
Student Exchange Unit office.

If a student must take a leave of absence during the

trimester, they must immediately inform the Student
Exchange Unit office to get important information about
their visa.
