A portfolio is a displayed collection of pieces by a single author or group of authors.

It is
meant to showcase one's work, progress, or talents. It is meant to show one's strengths
or greatest accomplishments more than the failures or setbacks. My portfolio shows the
progression of my study conducted on different aspects of finding a soulmate from
observations from How I Met Your Mother to entering the conversation with my own
opinions.
This portfolio targets those interested in finding a soulmate or find the different aspects
that go into it intriguing. The best way to follow my portfolio is to begin on the home page
which contains the different homework and classwork assignments that were the
different steps to completing assignments one and two. The part that I am particularly
proud of are my examples given in assignment one of the different parts of the figured
world I chose to observe. They are located on the right hand side of the page titled
assignment one.
This portfolio started with my interest in How I Met Your Mother which is what inspired
me to study finding a soulmate more in depth. This portfolio shows that I am a writer
who incorporates the ideas or others in my work along with mine. It also shows that
when composing my writing others ideas are referred to to build more ideas off of it.
My portfolio shows the steps I took to build my ideas and work to complete my two
assignments. Through this process I learned the different aspects of researching and
composing a research paper. I have also learned how to pick a topic I am truly interested
in and find reliable sources for said topic.
At the beginning of this semester one of my concerns was that I wouldn't find a topic I
was interested in and if I did I wouldn't be able to find enough sources to conducted a
substantial research paper on it. However I did not struggle with theses concerns in this
class because of the homework and classwork assignments that had me practice, in a
group, picking out topics from a figured world and then finding reliable sources on that
topic. If there were one thing I would have differently it would be to provide more in text
citations instead of mentioning ideas found in the studies I referred to.
Rhetorical Knowledge, which is knowing what writing style, word structures, etc. to use
to get the message and reaction that you want from your target audience, is present in
my portfolio in the interview I conducted for assignment one as well as in the entering
the conversation piece in assignment two. Knowledge and Conventions, which are the
formal and informal rules with regard to what is appropriate or not to include in your
writing, which can shape the audiences experience with your piece, is present in the
definitions of the different actors in assignment one. Composing Processes, which are
the strategies that writers use to develop their writing through research while conducting
and revising their paper, was used when I participated in the peer review and received
constructive criticism. The writers ability to get their ideas and concepts across through
their writing, critical reflection, was used in the entering the conversation part of
assignment two. Analyzing and examining a reading to understanding the deeper
meanings that the author intentionally put in there, critical reading, was used in all my
researching and observations to find sources and pull out the author's meaning from the
text.
