HISTORY
The history of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia goes a long way back to 1993. The University began its early
operation as a Polytechnic Staff Training Centre and later Institut Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn in 1996 named after
the late Tun Hussein Onn, the third Prime Minister of Malaysia. The institute was later upgraded to university
college, i.e. Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn in 2000 and then to Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia
in 2007. Today the university has more than 15,000 students, including more than 450 international students
constituting a vibrant campus community. The numbers of graduate students is currently more than 10% of the
total student enrolment. This demonstrates the research focus of the university in understanding and implementing
new niche areas such as sustainability which is in line with the global green technology initiatives.
