1.2 History
The birth of Bergenbier Brewery Ploiesti
Interbrew Romania
Interbrew entered the Romanian market in April-Mai 1994, and bought two breweries within two weeks
one in Baia Mare (Proberco) with the existing brand Hopfenkonig and one in Blaj (BIB) where the
Bergenbier brand was launched. At the same time Interbrew created a distribution company (ITW). Within
three to four years, Interbrew developed his brands to the point in May 1997 when Stella Artois was
launched on the local market.
Since Interbrew Romania was a fast growing company, it was dealing with a capacity issue at that time.
Because 60 percent of its sales are in the south-eastern region of Romania, Interbrew started the process
of building a new brewery in Bucharest.
December 2002, CDN, Proberco and BIB decided to join in one company keeping the name of CDN.

A new brand, famous German beer Becks became one of the brands which are brewed by IEB. It was
launched in May 2003 and had a great success (Becks beer respects the German law of beer purity).
Since September 2003 CDN changed the name into Interbrew Romania SA
Efes
Efes is the biggest beer company in Turkey. They are on the Romanian market since 1992 and are
producing Efes Pilsener in Romania since 1997 trough a joint-venture with the Cozla brewery in Piatra
Neamt.
Even though it wasnt doing too well in terms of sales, Efes became in 1998 operational with a brand new
brewery in Ploiesti, considered in terms of technology as the best in Central Europe.
Joint Venture
Very soon Interbrew and Efes realized they could do things together and find a better way to deal with
common problems. There was Interbrew with his low capacity problems and Efes with his over
capacity problems so they decided to join forces.
At the beginning of 1999, Interbrew entered in a joint venture with Efes, which brought it its third brewery
in the town of Ploiesti- the INTERBREW EFES BREWERY.
August 2006 InBev bought the remaining 50% of EFES shares in IEB with full control of Interbrew Efes
Brewery.
Starbev - in December 2009 was established the Starbev Company, after CVC bought from Inbev the plant
from CE
Bergenbier SA, Ploiesti Brewery in 1.03.2010 the company name was changed from Inbev Romania to
Bergenbier SA
April 2012 MolsonCoors Company bought the Starbev Company
When it was established in 1998, the brewery consisted of:
