had now expanded his industry knowledge into another direction. From the well being of at-risk youth to

for himself under the endeavors of Russell Simmons mentorship, adding another experience that would prepare
him for his own worldly endeavors to come.

The Guns of which he founded in 2005 when his oldest son was killed by a NY police officer in NY City. Tucker,
devastated by the tragic death of his son, says I didnt want to be another angry black man or being perceived as
just another angry black man because something happened to his child. So, he decided to start the Lay Down The
Guns Campaign. Gates and Michael Tucker came together, implementing a program called Blame It On The
Hustle Intern Program, where 50 young men and woman will be chosen to come together on an internship,
learning and being a process in the development of the movie from start to finish. When asked what the movie
Blame It On The Hustle is about and what people can learn from it. Phil Gates had to say, Blame It On The
Hustle is exactly what it is. A lot of times people get upset, get mad at their husband, their wife, their boss or
whatever the case may be. Everybody has a hustle. Everybody is working on getting something going. Its better to
blame it on the situation. Dont blame it on the individual. Blame it on the situation, learn from that situation and
become a better individual.

avenues for aspiring artist, entrepreneurs and up and coming film producers to be seen and heard. Carrying the

When asked what it is that drives him, Mr. Gates had to say this, It is definitely my spirituality that drives me. You
have to have faith to sit still and wait. You have to choose one side or the other. You cant serve two masters. If you
believe that what youre doing is right then, you have to hold on to that. Even when the outcome seems like it may
not work out in your favor. . But you gotta move too! Its like a mental weight. You have to realize that the physical
world is dictated by the spiritual world. Thats the key. No matter how bad it looks like or what it is, it could always
be worse. It takes Patience and perseverance. If you have these things, everything will be alright.
