Presidents Report 2015/16 AGM

During the past year BeCA lost two of its Management Committee members. Peter Passant regretfully passed away
following a lengthy illness, and Jeff Adams left the area and was therefore no longer eligible to be a member.
The past year continued to be an active one for your Community Association.
Our 4 Public Meetings were well attended and hosted speakers including both Federal and State local MPs, Cr Rick
Baberowski, various representatives from Stockland, speakers on Real Estate, Identity Protection and Queensland
Corrective Services and others.
At our Management Committee Meetings, we received representatives from Sunshine Coast Airport Management
and our local Councillor for updates and discussions on local issues.
The major issue for BeCA this year was to remove repetitive circuits by helicopters from above our homes. BeCA has
been vital in encouraging Council, Airport Management and Stockland to reach an interim solution. BeCA will
continue to urge all stake holders to negotiate a long term solution with the State Government to be completed
prior to end of 2016.
BeCA has liaised with local organisations and has continued to support their development. The Bells Reach
Community Garden has come under the BeCA umbrella and we continue to support this group via our newsletter,
our website and Facebook pages.
Other local groups such as the Bellvista Tavern, IGA and B.E.L.L.S. have also been supported by BeCA and have been
able to access BeCAs resources to keep the community up to date on developments.
BeCA actively supports all local businesses and endeavours to support them whenever possible.
The formation of the new Caloundra West Lions Club has also been supported by your Community Association.
BeCA enjoys close ties with Council, Caloundra Safe, Stockland and Caloundra Police. We are able to employ those
contacts to address concerns raised by residents.
In 2015, BeCA formally welcomed Bells Reach to it organisation. We are now formally known as the Bellvista and
Bells Reach Community Association. Legal formalities for the renaming are well in hand and progressing.
BeCA remains a major source for all information to residents on roadworks and upgrades being undertaken by
Stockland and are able to keep residents informed of lane closures, detours etc.
With this close relationship with Stockland, BeCA is able to keep residents updated on any major works about to be
undertaken by them.
BeCA is able to provide Stockland with feedback on resident concerns regarding Stocklands roadworks or any other
major upgrades. BeCA was able to keep Stockland updated on issues during the extension of the left turn lane in
Bellvista Blvd at the Caloundra Rd intersection earlier this year.
During the past year we have seen the completion of the pathway in OReilly Drive and we expect to see shade cover
extended covering playground equipment at the park in Rawson St by Sunshine Coast Council in the near future.
BeCA has been informed planning is well underway to complete a pathway between Crater St and Ghostgum Cl.

Other issues attended to by BeCA include bus stop seating and bus stop covers, trail bike riders and 4WD traffic
along the northern boundary, areas indicating the use of illegal substances have been located and reported,
attention to instances of graffiti, signage issues blocking drivers view at intersections, pathway repairs and the
maintenance of playground equipment and more.
BeCA enjoys a close relationship with Councils Bellvista Gardening Team and has been able to liaise with them to
address various issues and ensure the upkeep of parks, pathways and gardens.
As President, I must sincerely thank the efforts of all Management Committee members for their support during
2015.
Special thanks goes to our Secretary whose efforts for BeCA are unsurpassed. The workload she takes on in her
voluntary capacity is amazing and much of the success enjoyed by BeCA during this year is a testament to her
commitment.
Les Thomas, President.
