Young voters in California say Meg Whitman is the leader who can return this state to a place
where jobs are plentiful, education is top-notch and anyone can succeed.
Today marks the launch of the Students for Meg Coalition, a group that will share ideas for A New
California and get 18- to 29-year-olds to the polls for Meg on Election Day.

Students are rallying behind Meg because of her commitment to make California the place where
the next generation learns, works, lives and plays – the place they’ll build their lives and call
home.

At least 40 chapters of Students for Meg have been opened statewide, and on the campuses of
nearly every major university. The group will host campaign events on campuses, recruit
volunteers and encourage California students to get involved in politics.

Young voters see in Meg a role model and a gubernatorial candidate who can make California
better for their generation. Now more than ever is the time to engage the voters under 30, Meg
says. And her message of creating jobs, as well as her experience as a proven job creator at eBay,
is resonating with California’s youth.

“Because Meg is very concerned about jobs and job creation, she is the candidate for the young
voters. She has real leadership,” said Arturo Garcia, a 21-year-old student at California State
University, San Bernardino.

Young voters are critical to successful elections. In the 2008 presidential election, three out of four
California voters aged 18 to 29 voted for Barack Obama. It’s a statistic that draws gasps from
voters when Meg shares it on the campaign trail. And it’s a trend that she says needs to be
reversed if Republicans are going to win in November.

“If we’re going to change the destiny of this state, we need elected officials who capture the
imagination of all Californians,” Meg says. “And we have to earn back our credentials as the party
of economic prosperity and limited and accountable government. Students deserve a leader who
says what she means, means what she says and gets the job done.”

Young voters say if anybody is going to draw California’s youth into this election, it’s Meg.

“Knowing she brings that real world experience to the table is something that is very unique,
especially for California, and it’s inspirational. She’s really struggled in the real world, she’s
someone who hasn’t played the political card their entire life,” said Matthew Faustman, a 26-year
old MBA and law student at Santa Clara University. “And that’s what is unique about Meg - she
genuinely wants this position because she cares about California.”
