Re: Request for investigation into the violent hate crimes in the Oak Lawn Community
Dallas FBI,
My name is Isaiah X. Smith and I am sending you this letter for the purpose of requesting the Dallas
Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate all of the violent hate crimes that have
been occurring and terrorizing the Oak Law Community in Dallas, Texas. I urge you to read this letter
and to respond appropriately to this letter. All information listed in this letter is true and correct to the
best of my knowledge.
I.

General Information regarding the violent hate crimes in the Oak Lawn Community
Members of the LGBT community are extremely concerned as to the violent attacks that are
consistently taking place and targeting members of the LGBT community in the Oak Lawn
Community in Dallas, Texas. As you may already know, minority individuals have
experienced a lot of inhumane treatment by extremists, radical individuals and prejudiced
individuals when looking at the history of the United States of America. It is extremely
imperative for the government to prosecute and to hold accountable to the fullest extent of
the law individuals who have been involved in hate crimes. Hate crimes cannot be tolerated
in the United States of America and the perpetrators must be stopped.
There have been over 12 (twelve) violent attacks that have consistently and have
repetitively targeted members of the LGBT community in the Oak Law Community in Dallas,
Texas. The first violent attack took place in the month of October 2015 and the second
violent attack took place approximately two weeks from the violent first attack. At this exact
moment there have been a total of 12 (twelve) attacks against members of the LGBT
community from the Month of October 2015 to November 2015. These violent crimes have
got to stop and it seems as if the crimes are not being stopped.
Attachment A listed below lists some news articles that have been posted online
regarding the violent hate crimes in the Oak Lawn Community that are terrorizing that area
of Dallas, Texas.

Evidence as to the crimes that have been committed and reported

The Texas Public Information Act allows individuals to obtain copies of public records that
are held by and for a governmental body. Since the attacks to my knowledge are still being
investigated, the Dallas Police Department would have a right to not send me certain
information that could and would hinder the investigation. Therefore I have not submitted
to the Dallas Police Department an open records request through the Texas Public
Information Act at this exact moment in time.
All information regarding and pertaining to official police call to service reports, 911 call
records, police reports, emails from police officials of the Dallas Police Department, and
other police records that have been filed to the Dallas Police Department regarding violent
attacks that have occurred in the Oak Lawn Community of Dallas, Texas are in the
possession of the Dallas Police Department. The Federal Bureau of Investigation can get
access to the records because your agency is not only a federal law enforcement agency, but
your federal governmental body does have jurisdiction to investigate assertions of hate
crimes that were committed as defined by federal law.
The contact information as to the Dallas Police Department is as follows:
Dallas Police Department
1400 S. Lamar St.
Dallas, Texas 75215
Telephone Number: 214-671-3001

Conclusion
In conclusion hate crimes that have been committed in the United States of America cannot
be tolerated. I strongly believe that it is the job of the government to prosecute hate crimes
that have been defined in federal law. It seems as if the LGBT community is specifically being
targeted in violent attacks in the Oak Lawn neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. Specifically it
seems as if the crimes are based on hate and are biased.
As you may already know, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has the authority to
investigated hates crimes that are federally defined in federal laws. I am specifically asking
the Federal Bureau of investigation to investigate all of the attacks that have took place in
the Oak Lawn community neighborhood under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr.
Hate Crimes Prevention Act and under any other federal law that can be used to prosecute
the perpetrators. The perpetrators have to be brought to justice and the victims of the
crimes deserve a redress. I strongly believe that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would

be the best agency to conduct such a thorough investigation into all of the violent crimes
that have occurred due to resources and experiences that your federal agency has.
