is the item number 5 with a result of 3.03 while the lowest is item number 3 with a result
of 2.77. And it revealed that the overall mean of 2.90 has a verbal description of Agree
according to the result of each item. This means that the application and classroom
activity of the instructors given on their students is okay for them because it result good
into their academic retention that is why most of the respondents are agreed on the

Table 4 shows the result of the extent involvement of the 3 rd year engineering
students of Saint Joseph institute of technology in terms of utilization of visual aids, oral
communication and application and classroom activities. It shows that the overall mean
of utilization of visual aids is 2.83, while the oral communication is 2.81 and the last
factor which is application and classroom activities has an overall mean of 2.90. All
factors had a verbal description of Agree. And as the result revealed the teaching and
learning activities has an involvement regarding to the following factors. And it shows
that they are closely related to each other due to the result that they are just different in

Table 6 shows the academic retention of the 3 rd year engineering students of

Saint Joseph Institute of Technology. And based on the result the average rate of the
components of academic retention which is the level of understanding is 2.87 and most
of the respondents agreed on this components. Since it has only one component the
result for the general average is the same as the level of understanding. The
researchers interpret the result that the academic retention is dependent to teaching
and learning activities because as what the result stated through techniques of the
instructor the understanding of the students will level up.

Problem 3: Is there a significant relationship between teaching and learning

Activities and Academic Retention of the 3 rd year engineering student of Saint Joseph
Institute of Technology. It shows that the correlation of the two variables is 0.772 which
means that the teaching and learning activities and the academic retention of the 3 rd
year engineering have a very high positive correlation. Based on the result the null
hypothesis of the problem is rejected. As a result it shows that there is a significant
relationship between teaching and learning activities and the academic retention of the
3rd year engineering student of Saint Joseph Institute of technology.

Problem 4: On the basis of the findings, what program and recommendation

can be developed?
As what the researcher got the result of their study which is all of the variables
get the result of Agree in their verbal description. And based on this result the
researcher can say that it has a good result but in order to increase the academic
retention of the 3rd year engineering students. The instructors and the students of
Saint Joseph Institute of Technology should change or add some techniques in their
teaching skills so that the students and instructors mind can merge for the sake of
their studies and their work. And both they can get benefit with both group.
