BIO SHRI YOGANAND SARASWATI JI MAHARAAJ

Shri Kapalik Yoganand Maharaja Bio

Shri Kapalik Yoganandji was a disciple of Bam Dev and a great Tantric Siddha himself. Shri
Bamakhepa said that Yoganandji was the best of Tantrics and had the highest respect for
him. Shri Kapalik Yoganandji stayed a while in Tarapith but his wanderings eventually took him
to other pithas - Kamakhya being a favorite. Guruji would take an asana and would not leave it
for long periods of time. Shri Yoganandji was an accomplished Shamshan Siddha and would
spend lengthy amounts of time in the cremation grounds. Because of the strong dispassion and
realizations in this great Being, he did not bother with certain aspects of decorum or appearance,
letting his body emaciate and his hair and nails to grow long.

Even given the lack of concern for his appearance, Shri Kapalik Yoganand had a truly regal
presence and disposition and was referred to as a “Great King”. Guruji had a great laugh when
amused and would slap the person on the thigh while in enjoyment, often causing pain and
drawing blood because of his long nails. He also possessed many of the qualities of his Guru and
could be quite unpredictable and difficult to deal with for those that approached but his actions
always led to the betterment of all that came to him. Shri Yoganandji had a long time Bhairavi
who served as his partner in the deep sadhanas that he engaged in. This kind and loving lady is
still alive today.

Shri Kapalik Yoganand Maharaja was a true master of Shakti and would consume huge
quantities of Karan (liquor) in his Bhavas. Beyond even the dictates of the Tantras, he would
drink without eating throughout the day. When approached by a man who had a drinking
problem, Guruji offered to drink for him. The man then overcame his habit of drinking
altogether. It was not uncommon for the Master to take up to 40 bottles in one day. To truly
understand what all this means, one must understand certain aspects of the Kaula path.

While many fled from Kapalik Yoganand Maharaaj in fear of his appearance and unpredictable
(sometimes irritable) bhavas, one man stayed and would not leave. Because of this man’s fierce
determination and potentials for the highest realizations of Tantra, Shri Yoganand called this
man Mahakaal. Shri Yoganand said, “All the others are afraid of me and go away, why do you
stay?” Mahakaalji said,“ You are my Guru, I will stay.”

Shri Kapalik Yoganand Maharaja reached the highest pinnacles of Realization and Tantra. When
taking Mahasamadhi, he left the gross elements and body through the crown. At this time, many
people saw a great light leaving the crown and a brilliant clear light was seen in the sky
above. He lived an ascetic existence and told his best disciple that while he had not shared that
Vidya with many, it would be up to him to do so. That man is Shri Kapalik Mahakaal
Bhairvanand Saraswati.
