DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STABBING IN ENGLEWOOD
***************************************************************************************************
Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced today the arrest of
James Guerrero-Diaz, 45 years of age, 225 Waldo Place, 2nd Floor, Englewood, New
Jersey. The arrest is for the Attempted Murder of his live-in girlfriend, which occurred at
225 Waldo Place, 2nd Floor, Englewood, New Jersey.
An investigation by the Englewood Police Department and the Bergen County
Prosecutor’s Office, Homicide Squad, revealed the following: At 4:20 a.m., the victim (a
40 year old female) walked into the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center where she
collapsed in the Emergency Room. Attending physicians quickly noted that she had
multiple stab wounds to her torso and left arm, and had signs of ligature strangulation
on her neck. She was rushed into emergency surgery and treated for the life threatening
injuries. Shortly after the victim arrived at Englewood Hospital and while Englewood
Police Officers were there investigating the incident, a male later identified as James
Guerrero-Diaz arrived at the hospital with a self-inflicted stab wound to his abdomen. He
had been driven there by a relative. It was quickly ascertained that the two lived
together and he was placed under arrest. Guerrero-Diaz subsequently required surgery
for his injury but is in stable condition.
A search warrant executed on the residence resulted in the recovery of nylon
rope believed to be used in an attempt to strangle the victim and the knife used in the
stabbing. Evidence at the scene indicated the victim, after escaping her attacker,
walked nearly one-half mile to the hospital. Four other individuals were present in the
residence but asleep in another area of the house during the attack, including two
children. The Division of Youth and Family Services responded to investigate and assist
with placement of the children.
Guerrero-Diaz has been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a
Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. He remains in custody at Englewood Hospital with
bail affixed at $500,000.00, no ten percent option. The victim is in critical but stable
condition also at Englewood Hospital.

Prosecutor Molinelli states that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven
guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the members of the
-
1-
Englewood Police Department for their assistance and cooperation.
