Introduction

Created by planning specialist Yoji Akao in 1966

Way to help product planners look in the lenses of the customer, company
and technology

The first to use this in the US are General Motors, Ford Motor Company
and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

Uptake by the western has been slow

Data captured and the decisions made using the QFD are usually related
to future products

What is QFD?
Quality Function Deployment is defined as a method for
developing a design quality aiming at satisfying the
consumer and then translating the consumer's demand into
design targets and major quality assurance points to be
used throughout the production phase.

House of Quality
Resembles a House
a diagram used for defining the relationship between
customer desires and firm capabilities
a source of ready reference for related products and
future upgrades
helps identify the critical technical components that
require change
