THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS IN THE

FIRST APPLICATION PERIOD


WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR APPLYING FOR ENROLMENT?

Between 5 February and 5 March: citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and citizens of
European Union Member States.
Between 5 February and 1 June: foreign citizens from countries that are not European
Union Member States.

I AM A FOREIGN CITIZEN WITH A PERMANENT PLACE OF RESIDENCE IN


SLOVENIA AND MY PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE TAXABLE PERSONS IN THE
REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA. WHEN AND FOR WHICH ENROLMENT PLACES CAN I
APPLY?
In this case, the candidate is equated with the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, which means
that the candidate can apply within the periods and for the enrolment places issued for Slovenian
citizens.

I AM IN MY FINAL YEAR OF SECONDARY SCHOOL. WHICH DOCUMENTS AND


WHEN SHOULD I SEND?
Candidates for enrolment who have not finished secondary school at the time should, for the time
being, send only the e-application for enrolment, and when they finish secondary school they
should also send a certified transcript of the certificates of their last two years of secondary school,
a certified transcript of their final certificate, a certified transcript of their identification document, a
certificate of the Slovenian language exam on level B2 (if it is so required by a study programme)
and they have to do the recognition of secondary school education for the purpose of continued
studies.

Foreign citizens from countries that are not EU Member States should send the documents no
later than August 3. The selection procedure includes also candidates who have been leaving
certificate issued after July 20, 2015 and they issued a decision on the recognition of
education for the purpose of continuing education to August 26, 2015.
Citizens of Republic Slovenia and EU Member States have to send all the documents by 6
July and no later than 10 September.

Candidates who have already finished secondary school should send their documents as soon as
possible or by the deadlines written above.

WHERE SHALL I SEND THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND WHICH DOCUMENTS


SHALL I SEND?
The following candidates should send their documents to the Higher Education ApplicationInformation Service of the University of Ljubljana (Visokoolska prijavno-informacijska sluba
Univerze v Ljubljani), p.p. 524, 1001 Ljubljana:
Citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and citizens of EU-countries, applying for their desired
study in the application for study programmes of the University of Ljubljana and independent
higher education institutes;
Foreign citizens from non-EU countries, applying for their desired study in study programmes of
the University of Ljubljana.

The application-admission procedure and the procedure for the recognition of foreign education
are two separate procedures, thus a candidate should send the following documents TO TWO

The candidate shall send notarised transcripts and translations of certificates of their last
two years of secondary school and of their final certificate, as well as of their personal
identity document (if the candidate has foreign citizenship) and a certificate of the
Slovenian language exam on level B2 (if it is so required by a study programme).

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR SENDING THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS?


By 3 August 2015:
Foreign citizens from non-EU countries, regardless of the study programmes stated within the
First application and candidates who have been leaving certificate issued after August 3, 2015
and they issued a decision on the recognition of education for the purpose of continuing
education to August 26, 2015.
By 6 July or no later than 10 September 2015:
Citizens of the Republic of Slovenia who completed their secondary education abroad and
citizens of European Union Member States.

IN WHAT CASES WILL I HAVE TO PASS THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE EXAM


BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE FIRST YEAR OF STUDY?
If candidates apply for study programmes at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television
(AGRFT) and the Faculty of Pharmacy, Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FDV),
Slovene Language and Interlingual Communication at the Faculty of Arts (FF), they are required to
pass the Slovenian language exam (B2 level) before enrolling in the first year of study.

IN WHAT CASES IS THE CERTIFICATE OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE SLOVENIAN


LANGUAGE NOT REQUIRED BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE FIRST OR SECOND
YEAR OF STUDY FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS?
Candidates who do not need the certificate of knowledge of the Slovenian language before
enrolling in the first or the second year of study:
Candidates who have finished a primary or secondary school in Slovenia,
Candidates who have finished a bilingual secondary school abroad (Italy or Austria).

WHAT PROGRAMMES ARE PERFORMED IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?


The Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana performs the Academic Study programme
in Economics and Business programme in the English language. The faculty and the academies
also offer consultations to foreign students in the English language.

WHERE CAN I CERTIFY MY DOCUMENTS?


Transcripts of required documents can be certified at a notary, a secondary school both abroad or
in Slovenia or at an embassy of the Republic of Slovenia.

MY SCHOOL WILL NOT ISSUE THE FINAL CERTIFICATE BEFORE AUGUST. WILL I
MISS THE DEADLINE FOR SENDING THE DOCUMENTS?
No, but it is important that the candidates submit their application on time and inform the Higher
Education Application and Information Service that their school will issue their final certificate at a
later date.
Foreign citizens from non-EU countries can submit the final certificate and complete the
procedure of recognition after 3 August, The selection procedure includes also candidates who
have been leaving certificate issued after July 20 and they issued a decision on the recognition
of education for the purpose of continuing education to August 26.
Citizens of Republic Slovenia and EU Member States have to send all the documents no
later than September 10.

WHERE CAN I GET INFORMATION ON THE CONTENT AND DATE OF THE ABILITY,
CAPACITY AND SKILLS TESTS?
Candidates can obtain information on the content of the ability, capacity and skills test at the
faculty or academy that performs the test. Test dates are published in the electronic publication
Call for Enrolment and in the brochure entitled Information on Enrolment for Foreign Citizens at the
University of Ljubljana.

WHAT IS ENROLMENT LIMITATION?


If the number of applications is greater than the number of announced enrolment slots, a decision
on enrolment limitation can be adopted. This means that the most successful candidates will be
selected based on their academic performance in secondary school and the results of the ability,
capacity and skills test (if this is a requirement for the chosen study programme).

IN WHAT WAY IS THE POINT SYSTEM FOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE


IMPLEMENTED USING FOREIGN CERTIFICATES?
Based on the scales of grades in the individual countries and the rules on the evaluation of foreign
secondary school academic performance, the Higher Education Application-Information Service
converts the grades from a foreign certificate into the Slovene grading system.

DO I HAVE TO PASS ANY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION BEFORE ENROLLING INTO


THE DESIRED STUDY PROGRAMME?
No, there are no entrance examinations. If more candidates apply than there are enrolment slots,
candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic performance in secondary school and
their performance in the ability, capacity and skills tests, if the study programme so requires.

I AM A SLOVENIAN WITHOUT SLOVENIAN CITIZENSHIP AND ALSO A CITIZEN OF


AN EU MEMBER STATE. WITH WHICH CITIZENSHIP SHALL I APPLY?
Candidates who are Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship and citizens of an EU Member State,
must decide on one citizenship status.

DO I HAVE TO PAY A TUITION FEE?


The following students do not have to pay any tuition fee for full-time undergraduate courses:
Citizens of European Union Member States,
Foreign citizens with a permanent place of residence in the Republic of Slovenia, who are
taxable persons or whose parents/guardians are taxable persons in the Republic of Slovenia,
Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship,
Citizens of countries with which the Republic of Slovenia has concluded agreements on
cooperation in the field of education (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and
Serbia).
Slovenian and foreign citizens pay tuition fees for part-time undergraduate studies.

HOW MUCH IS THE TUITION FEE FOR ONE YEAR?


The price list is in Slovene language available on the website: http://www.unilj.si/studij/cenik_storitev_za_studente/. The tuition fee does not include the compulsory health
insurance, which must be arranged before the beginning of study.

WHERE CAN I ARRANGE MY HEALTH INSURANCE?

WHEN AND HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHETHER I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED IN THE
FIRST APPLICATION PERIOD?
The Higher Education Application-Information Service will send a written decision on the result of
the selection procedure to all applying candidates. Slovenian citizens and citizens of EU Member
States will receive this decision by 24 July and by 20 September, 2015 the latest. The Higher
Education Application-Information Service will send a written decision on the result of the selection
procedure to the citizens of non-EU Member States and Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship
no later than 7 September.

WHEN DO I ENROL IN THE FACULTY?


The enrolment of accepted Slovenian citizens and citizens of EU Member States in the first
enrolment period will take place from 27 July to 30 September, in the second enrolment period
from 25 to 30 September and in the third enrolment period from 5 to 10 October.
The enrolment of accepted foreign citizens of non-EU Member States and Slovenians without
Slovenian citizenship will take place from 7 September to 30 September 2015 and in the third
enrolment period from 5 to 10 October.

WHERE CAN I GET THE CERTIFICATE OF ENROLMENT?


Candidates receive the certificate of enrolment at the faculty or academy, when they enrol.

AM I ELIGIBLE FOR A ROOM IN A STUDENT DORMITORY?


Slovenian citizens and Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship may apply for a room in a student
dormitory.

WHICH DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE STATUS OF A


CANDIDATE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?
An information on granting the status of a candidate with special needs and on their acceptance
into a study programme is published on the website www.uni-lj.si.
