ADEW is a prominent NGO on two
levels:

Grass-root
level

ADEWs Objectives:

The overall objective of ADEW is to empower women on


many level:

Through providing group loans and individual loans to women and


Economically their families, along with providing training opportunities and
creating job opportunities.

Through training women on negotiation skills and basic life


skills such as: literacy, health awareness and social awareness.
Socially
Through offering legal assistance and raising womens
awareness on their legal rights, and issuing legal documents for
them and their families.

Through offering life skills and political awareness for women, and

training them on the needed skills to participate as full citizens in

Third: The Health Awareness Program and the
Eliminating Violence Against Women Program
Number of beneficiaries of the Health Program is 35,000
female and male beneficiaries.
Number of beneficiaries of the VAW Program is more
than 4800 women.
7300 women whose awareness has been raised and
benefited from the psychological counseling services

Since 2005 till now, The
shelter hosted 200 women
and their children with
permanent residence for 6
months
-And 150 women and their
children were hosted for
periods less than 3 months
- and 75 women and their
children were hosted for
periods less than one month

ADEW reached these achievements over 28 years


due to the existence of supporting departments
that work on the implementation of
these
programs to ensure delivery of the best services to
FHHs and their families in the targeted areas.

Based on our experience, we figured out that women in


squatter areas face multiple forms of
physical, psychological, political and social violence

We figured out that the main causes behind the


prevalence of gender-based violence is the patriarchal
mentalities that perceive women as inferiors on one
hand and religious misinterpretation on the other hand

ADEW conducted a study that targeted 444 women


from 7 different squatters in Cairo and Alexandria
governorates. The study shows that 96% from women
faced domestic violence practiced by their husbands.
Thus, ADEW found the necessity to launch its CVP

ADEW offers listening sessions to the abused women and their children through
our offices in Cairo, Qualybia, Fayoum and Helwan area

ADEW hosts the abused women in its shelter (House of Eve) where they are
.rehabilitated

through the media and advocacy campaigns.

in are referred to ADEW either by our field
personnel or by other NGOs

House of Eve
Hosting Criteria
The Woman is expected not to be below 21 year-old;
(because woman below 21 year-old will need to provide a
written approval by any of her direct guardians (mother or
father) and most of the time these guardians are the ones
who assault her), and to prove that shes been exposed to
violence by a family member.
The Woman is expected to have official documents; ID, birth
certificate or to have the documents needed to help us
issue these documents for her.

House of Eve consists of 5 floors with 10
different apartments.
House of Eve hosts up to 20 abused women with an average of 3
children each. Each 2 women live together in one apartment; each
one of them in a separate room with a bathroom and a kitchen
attached.
