Dear Members,
Warm Greetings on a nippy weather day!!
We are running slightly late on our
second issue. We were busy in
finalizing and bringing the annual
accounts to you for the year 2013-14.
The monsoon months of July, August
and September, 2014 were
nevertheless packed with events
organized for your entertainment

besides intellectual stimulation by way of talks


and meeting new authors in our Books &
Authors series.
Our Stage plays Saudagar, Daddy
continued to draw packed audience.We thank
you for your overwhelming response. The
dance event by National awarded Kuchipudi
dancer SwapnaSundari.

Swarlahari was a unique dance performance of semi-classical dance numbers from Indian
cinema by her pupils, a wonderful experience indeed.
NRITANTA DHANG was a spell binding performance by artists of Kathak Kendra on the

occasion of Janamashtami.
CSOI observed Wildlife Week in the
first week of July where an award
winning documentary film on
Dynasty in Indian Tigers was
screened in the auditorium
followed by a quiz on tigers.

CSOI celebrated 68thIndependence Day on 14th -16th


August.Kite flying by members was organized on
roof top followed by a Sawan Food Festival with
Jhulas around the swimming pool.
To keep the musical beats alive, CSOI
hosted musical concerts Madhur Geeton
ki Shaam by Ms. AnupamaTripathi, Saaz
aur Awaz by Ms. Mandakini Bora and
Jugal. The melodious voices of our member
singers moved the audience to give standing
ovation to our member artists.

On literary front, Books & Authors interactive


sessions drew select crowd of members to
interact with famous writers Mr. Raghav
Chandra of Scent of a Game, fame,
Anticipating India by Shekhar Gupta and
Vikas Swarup acclaimed author of Q&A,
Six Suspects, who read his book The
Accidental Apprentice. All these writers
shared their personal experiences and
anecdotes while scripting the books. Mr.
Sanjeev Chopra organized these events with
aplomb and finesse.

CSOI launched Brown Bag lunch series at the KG Marg premises on 26


September 2014 The first guest in the policy series was
Mr C Rajamohan, Distinguished
Fellow, Observer Research
Foundation and the Foreign Affairs
Editor of Indian Express. CSOI
proposes to continue with the theme on
the third/fourth Friday of every month.
Eminent policy makers/key functionaries
will discuss a contemporary issue with
policy implications on governance and
political economy of India. We are sure
that CSOI members and civil servants will join in for an engaged discourse.
Under cultural exchange programme, a Chinese Martial troupe performed on stage their
martial arts comprising of 18 performers. The show drew children on stage to perform
Karate on stage.

The screening of a cinematic mix of Bollywood and


Hollywood films, old and new , drew audience
from Members and their families . Holiday, Gulabi
Gang, Jal, Kabuliwala, Filmistan, Lunch Box, Ek
Villain, Bhootnath Returns were universally
enjoyed. Western English movies screened were
Her, and the classically delicious The Grand
Budapest Hotel.
The art gallery of CSOI remained active and
occupied
with display of paintings, photographs and
artefacts made by members, spouses and their
children. Mr. Utkarsh Bharat along with Srishti
Varun exhibited their work on a theme Fusion
with caricatures merging on abstract art. Ms.
Nandita Sharma displayed her works of paintings
on Lord Krishna & Radha with a theme
Nandkriti and Ms. Sumati Mehta brought the
Valley of Flowers in the art gallery on a theme
Colours of Life each painting looking live as
real
flowers with butterflies hovering on them.
To keep your taste buds alive, we organized
South Indian food festivals and also showcased
Punjabi, Rajasthani and Kerala (Onamsadya)
during this quarter.
It shall be our endeavor to continue to bring
wholesome entertainment and food to you.
