SPV Array Powered Zeta Converter Fed SRM Drive for Water
Pumping
Anjanee Kumar Mishra, Bhim Singh
Abstract This paper demonstrates the utilization of solar photovoltaic (SPV) array
produced electrical energy for low cost and efficient water pumping using simple, robust
and efficient switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. For increasing the efficiency of
pumping system, an incremental conductance (InC) algorithm based MPPT technique is
employed with SRM drive. A DC-DC zeta converter operated in continuous conduction
mode (CCM) is used in midway between SPV array and SRM drive to provide limitless
region for operation of MPPT and also for soft starting of SRM. The mid-point converter
having two split capacitors is used to provide the required voltage pulses for phase
windings excitation of all four phases of SRM drive. The mid-point converter operates as an

electronic commutator to reduce the switching losses and power dissipation of the
converter. Both the inductors of zeta converter are operated in continuous conduction mode
(CCM) which results in minimal stress on converter elements. Unlike Cuk converter and
SEPIC (Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter) type buck-boost converters, zeta
converter does not need additional circuit to limit the inrush current and does not require
any overload protection. The speed of SRM drive is controlled with variable DC link
voltage of mid-point converter and it depends upon the different environmental conditions
and insolation levels of SPV array.

Automated Frequency Control using Fuzzy-Sliding Mode in WindThermal-Hydro Hybrid System

Prakash K. Ray, Pratap C Pradhan , Rabindra K Sahu,
Aurojyoti Das, Saswat Satpathy Asit Mohanty
Abstract This paper presents a fuzzy-sliding mode controller (FSMC) for the automated
load frequency control in a wind-hydro-thermal hybrid power system. The wind energy is
integrated with hydro and thermal system to minimize the effect of uncertainty in wind
speed. The performance of the proposed controller is studied under wind speed load
variation. The fuzzy sliding mode controller is compared with a fuzzy-PI controller on the
basis of various performance parameters such as peak overshoot and settling time. It has
been found to perform better than the fuzzy_PI controller under different operating
conditions.

Technical Performance Evaluation And Economic Viable Solutions

Using Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems
K. Nagasujatha, V. B. Shalini
AbstractThe electrical energy consumption is expanding all over the globe and the gap
between the demand of electrical power and generation is escalating day by day. In addition
to conventional power generation, renewable energy systems are being integrated to meet
the rising demand of electrical power. To provide reliable, cost effective power solutions
and to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions effectively renewable energy resources such as

solar, wind, tidal, and geothermal etc are more viable. The design of hybrid renewable
energy system with battery backup has been proposed in this paper. For this hybrid system,
the meteorological data of Solar Radiation, hourly wind speed for the Department of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University
Hyderabad, Jagityal (Latitude18026' N, longitude is 7907'E) are taken to meet the primary
load of 100Kwh/day, 28Kw peak load. The technical performance of each component has
been evaluated and finally sensitivity analysis is performed to optimize the proposed system
at different conditions. The local solar radiation, wind data and load were analyzed and
simulated in HOMER to assess the technical and economic viability of the integrated
system.

Application of Dynamic Voltage Restorer in Microgrid for Voltage

Sag/Swell Mitigation
M.T.L.Gayatri, Dr. Alivelu M. Parimi, A.V. Pavan Kumar
AbstractMicrogrids are becoming increasingly attractive to consumers as it allows
utilization of freely available renewable energy sources. They are usually installed at
consumers sites i.e the distribution end. Due to high penetration of distributed generation
units with different types of loads, microgrids can cause power quality and power control
issues. Some of them are voltage swells and sags, and low power factor which further
require reactive power compensation. This paper presents the utilization of the custom
power device specifically Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) in mitigating the problem of
voltage sags and swells occurring in microgrid. A microgrid is modeled and simulated with
different loading conditions causing power quality problems. The performance of DVR,
installed in microgrid, is analyzed for reactive power compensation to overcome these
concerned issues. The control logic of DVR is designed using phase locked loop (PLL)
technique and its effectiveness is observed in Matlab/Simulink.

Conference (PCITC)
Siksha O Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, India

Abstract Wind energy has become increasingly popular in last two-three decades.
Renewable energy source using wind energy supply power in remote sectors or it can be
use to fed power to the grid connected power systems. Changing in load or wind speed can
cause power quality issues. Present paper represent a FACTS based PFC (power filter
compensator) controlled by tri-loop controller which improves voltage profile of wind
energy system. The proposed power filter compensator is driven by tri-loop controller and
error fed to PI or PID controller which gives output to PWM generator for generating
signals and it operates IGBT switch for capacitor bank to compensate reactive power and
improves voltage profile of the power system. To demonstrate the working of technique a
simulation model is developed for several operations in MATLAB/SIMULINK software
environment.

Model Predictive Control of DSTATCOM for Power Quality

Improvement: Modeling, Simulation and Analysis-Part1
Gokulananda Sahu, Kamalakanta Mahapatra
AbstractIn this paper, a novel model predictive current control strategy is proposed for
DSTATCOM to improve the power quality in distribution system. Unlike classical control
schemes, the proposed method neither requires current PI controllers nor modulators at
switching signal generation stage. The discrete-time model of the converter, filter and
terminal voltage are used to predict the future behavior of the compensating currents for
each of the eight possible switching states. The control method decides a switching state in
which the actual currents are closer to their references. In this first part, proposed method is
verified through extensive simulation in Matlab platform and a comparative analysis is
made with HCC and SMC current control schemes. It has been found that total harmonic
distortion of load compensation is well within the allowable range of IEEE standards with

of the simulation results are established through an experimental set-up.

Wide Area Backup Protection using Weighted Apparent Impedance

Pratim Kundu, Ashok Kumar Pradhan
Abstract Identification of the faulted line in a system can improve the performance of
backup protection schemes. This paper presents a Wide Area Measurement System
(WAMS) based algorithm, where voltage and current signals from synchrophasors placed
at strategic locations are used for the identification of faulted line. Conventional backup
protection schemes require complex setting and they maloperate under flow transfer which
can be avoided using the proposed method. The studies performed on the 39-bus NewEngland system using data simulated through EMTDC/PSCAD validate accuracy of the
proposed algorithm.

AbstractIn this paper current control technique is used for reference signal generation for
voltage base PWM i.e. SPWM. Voltage source inverter with the help of generalized PQ
theory is implemented for shunt active filter applications. Two methods are used to generate
compensated current. Current is further converted into voltage as reference signal and this
is fed to the inverters sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique (SPWM). This inverter
is generating the injected current with all possible modification in the conventional single
phase shunt active filter. A multipurpose single phase shunt active filter (SAPF) for
domestic purpose is presented in this paper. The simulation results using
MATLAB/SIMULINK are shown to validate the proposed technique. Total harmonic
distortion (THD) and power factor (P.F.) are comes under the IEEE standard-519.

Exploration of Special Feedback Signals for VSC-HVDC based

Damping Controller
Vedanta Pradhan, A. M. Kulkarni, S. A. Khaparde
AbstractThis paper explores some special feedback signals for implementing damping
controllers in embedded voltage source converter (VSC) based HVDC links. While a
variety of feedback signals are feasible, a few signals stand out due to their favourable
properties. The paper recognizes the voltage angle/frequency difference between the
rectifier and inverter side ac buses as one such local signal. This signal has good residue
properties which can lead to improvement in the damping of all controllable swing modes.
The large gain behaviour may be improved by modifying this signal. The paper proposes a
nonlocal equivalent of this modified signal. This non-local signal may overcome the

restriction on the controller gain due to the need to ensure stability of local non-swing

using TCSC and SVC
Priyanka Kar, P.C. Panda, S.C. Swain, Akshay Kumar
Abstract Voltage, frequency and power (real and reactive) plays an important role in
power system. It should be in a predefined limit and if any one of them violates its limits
then the system becomes unstable. Our generation capacity is not increasing as compare to
loads increasing due to environmental and economical reason. Power system is operating at
critical value. To enhance the maximum power transfer capability and improve dynamic
stability of the system we use Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices. FACTS
devices have very fast response. It can be operate either in normal or abnormal conditions.
In this paper, mainly two types of FACTS controllers we have analyzed i.e. Thyristor
controlled series compensator (TCSC) and Static VAR Compensator (SVC). TCSC mainly
vary the reactance of the transmission line and improves stability limit. TCSC is also known
as series compensator. However SVC improves the voltage regulation where it has been
connected. SVC is also known as shunt compensator. These controllers have very fast
response. This paper shows how we can improve the dynamic stability by using TCSC and
SVC which are connected to single machine infinite bus (SMIB) power system.

AbstractPMU utilization is an emerging technology in the field of power systems.
Optimal PMU placement (OPP) is the main concern due to the cost factor and nonexistence of communication facilities. This paper gives the implementation of Integer
Linear Programming (ILP) and Exhaustive Search (ES) algorithms for optimal PMU
placement for full power system observability. Modeling of zero injection constraints in ILP
frame work has given. A method has been proposed to the systems having zero injection
busses in which we use binary connectivity matrix modification and the modified matrix
can be used in Integer Linear programming (ILP) and Exhaustive Search (ES) for optimal
PMU placement. ILP approach has also been given for the systems considering single PMU
outage. The results specify that: 1) optimal PMU placement for full power system
observability can be computed effectively; 2) connectivity matrix modification based
approach for systems having zero injection buses is computationally efficient and easy to
execute; 3) number of PMUs has to increase for systems considering single PMU outage.
The proposed algorithms have been tested for IEEE 9 bus, IEEE 14 bus, IEEE 24 bus
test systems on MATLAB environment.

Induction Machine
Arunava Chatterjee, Debashis Chatterjee
AbstractThis paper presents an economic single-phase, microwind-generation scheme at
low wind speeds mainly for grid-isolated, domestic applications. The generation scheme
employs a single-phase induction machine to operate as an induction generator using only
one stator winding with higher number of poles. Besides fixed capacitors, a closed loop
excitation current control scheme for the single winding is provided through a dedicated
inverter assisted from a photovoltaic source. A transformer is used to step up the voltage
generated at the winding terminals. The scheme shows excellent performance providing
constant voltage output with changing loads when simulated and practically experimented
with a practical 200W, 230V, 12-pole machine.

AbstractMandrel provides the desired profile to the propeller in solid propulsion
technology. Mandrel of known shape is inserted before casting process .Removal of
centering ring, mandrel and bottom plate after curing is highly hazardous operation known
as decoring. Friction overload in mandrel removal may cause explosion. Similarly bottom
plate removal is highly risky since the bottom plate is in close interface of the explosive
material. Sudden impact on the bottom plate may again initiate explosion. These may
seriously destruct infrastructure and manpower in vicinity. This paper describes the process
modification and development of the remote decoring process. Crane hoisting mandrel
operation using PLC and hydraulically operated bottom operation was developed for remote

Design and Analysis of Reward-Punishment based Variable Step Size

LMS Algorithm in Rayleigh Faded Channel Estimation
Aritra Chatterjee, Iti Saha Misra
AbstractChannel estimation in wireless communication system using various supervised
learning algorithms traditionally involves two very popular algorithms namely Least Mean
Square (LMS) and Recursive Least Square (RLS). The concept of variable step size
adaptive algorithms came into picture later on to achieve a trade-off between convergence
speed and mathematical complexity of these two algorithms (LMS and RLS). The family of
variable step size least mean square (VSSLMS) algorithms consists of various members
depending on their separate step size adaptation rule. In this paper, a new modified variable
step size algorithm is proposed employing a simple mathematical adaptation strategy- the
reward-punishment rule. The performance of the newly developed algorithm is analyzed
in estimating an unknown time varying Rayleigh faded channel and compared with the
performance of existing algorithms. The computer simulation shows that the rewardpunishment based variable step size least mean square algorithm exhibits faster
convergence rate compared to LMS and other competitors from VSSLMS family of
algorithms and consequently acts as better trade-off between LMS and RLS algorithm. The
mathematical complexity measured in terms of CPU time usage also indicates betterment
over existing VSSLMS algorithms.

and Parkinson Disease Patients
Monisha Chakraborty, Tithi Das, Dipak Ghosh
Abstract Gait dynamics of human appears to have a self-similar pattern and this selfsimilarity is studied using various non-linear methods. In this paper we employ three nonlinear methods namely Hursts rescaled range analysis method, Higuchis fractal dimension
method, Approximate entropy method to quantize the gait dynamics of people suffering
from Parkinson diseases (PD). Also they are asked to perform Dual task while walking, to
have a better understanding of the connection between central nervous system and the limb
movement. Gait dynamics of normal healthy people are also included in this study as
control group. They are also put under study to perform dual task. This data set has been
acquired from MIT-BIH data base. All these methods are capable to detect the difference
between Normal walking and Dual tasking for both the groups. The fractal exponents for
Dual task however produce interesting findings for PD subjects, suggesting that this type
of walk is more chaotic and is more disordered than control group with the same task.
Amongst the three methods utilized in this work approximate entropy method appears to be
more sensitive, for both the groups.

Abstract The hearing aid being a portable, compact, battery operated device, requires
algorithms with low computational complexity. The adaptive feedback canceller (AFC)
based on the time domain least mean square (LMS) algorithm exhibits slow convergence
and degraded performance when colored signal is used as input and also suffers from large
computational complexity. The frequency domain block LMS (FBLMS) algorithm performs
better in terms of convergence, steady state performance and computational complexity
than the time domain LMS algorithm for colored signal as input. However, the FBLMS
algorithm suffers from heavy computational complexity due to the large size of the DFT
involved while modelling the feedback path of the hearing aid. To overcome this problem, a
new structure using the Hirschman Optimal Transform (HOT)-DFT LMS (HDFT)
algorithm is developed as adaptive feedback canceller (HDFT-AFC) for hearing aids. The
simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method offers significant computational
savings than the FBLMS algorithm without any performance degradation when used for
feedback cancellation in hearing aids.

Abstract- The presence of magnetizing branch affects the performance of conventional
transducers such as current transformer (CT) & capacitive voltage transformer (CVT) under
severe fault conditions. This saturable branch leads to saturation which may affect different
areas of the power system. The suitable features for protective relaying purpose such as
linear output due to presence of air core, compact in size, light in weight makes the
rogowski coil as immaculate transducer over the conventional transducers. This paper
weighs against the performance characteristics of CT, CVT & rogowski coil by validating
the experimental & software results which illustrate the effectiveness of rogowski coil. Also
this paper confers the issue of CVT ratio error through the experimental results which is
been observed in recent years.

Abstract Wireless links in a Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is unreliable. So the
links in between the nodes in a MANET breaks frequently. Mobility of nodes in a MANET
increases the level of unreliability of the link between the nodes. Failure of a link also leads
to complete route failure and affect the performance of MANET. So, there is a need to study
the effect of mobility of nodes that causes a link break or a route failure. This paper presents
a theoretical approach to analyze the effects of velocity on the performance of MANET in
terms of routing overhead and average end to end delay. The analytical results are also
validated with simulation.

Abstract Recently, an efficient learning algorithm called extreme learning machine
(ELM) has been proposed for training of single hidden layer feed forward neural networks
(SLFNs). ELM has shown good generalization performances for many real applications
with an extremely fast learning speed. This study proposes a computational efficient
functional link artificial neural network (CEFLANN) trained with ELM for addressing the
problem of classifying stock price index movements as up and down movements. The
proposed model is also compared with two other popular networks like Chebyshev FLANN

are compared with back propagation and ELM based learning over two benchmark
financial data sets. Experimental results show that the performance of proposed model
outperforms the other models.

Multi-class Classification using Cuckoo Search based Hybrid Network

S. Chakravarty, Puspanjali Mohapatra
Abstract Classification plays an important role in various fields such as science,
engineering, medicine and business. This paper proposes a cuckoo search based hybrid
model i.e. Functional Link Neural Fuzzy Network named as CSFLNFN for classification of
multi-class datasets. Both FLANN, as an efficient computational technique and fuzzy logic,
as a basis of much inference system are combined to take the advantages from both the
techniques. These two techniques are supplementary to each other in a way that one is
helping other to overcome their limitations. The proposed CSFLNFN model uses FLANN
to the consequent part of the fuzzy rules. The parameters of the models are optimized by the
evolutionary algorithm, Cuckoo Search (CS). The CSFLNFN model is evaluated with one
medical dataset, dermatology and three other frequently used multi-class datasets, wine,
glass and iris. Further, to get more classification accuracy, Principal Component Analysis
(PCA) has been used to extract the features from the datasets. Performance of the model is
measured by number of measures like confusion matrix, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, Fscore, gmean and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. In this
study, a comparison has been made between results before and after features extraction and
it is seen that the classification accuracy increases with extracted features from the datasets.
However the results demonstrate the superiority of the CSFLNFN compare to other models
including CSMLP, CSFLANN, Nave Bayesian and K-Nearest Neighbor irrespective of the
feature extraction.

Abstract:-The paper presents a locally recurrent Fuzzy neural architecture to forecast
electrical loads in an energy market on a short-term basis. In recent years combination of
recurrent filter neurons with Fuzzy neural networks has gained significance to provide the
identification of the temporal nature of the time series data. Further to increase the
dimension of the input space the consequent part of the fuzzy rules are augmented with
functional link networks and this provides a better approximation of the input-output
mapping. Besides to provide faster learning in comparison to the gradient descent or
evolutionary techniques a robust H-infinity unscented Kalman filter is used. Some of the
energy market load time series data are used for numerical experimentation to highlight the
significant improvement in the prediction performance of the hybrid Functional Link Fuzzy
neural network (FLFNN).

Abstract Fault-tolerant scheduling of real-time (RT) tasks in multiprocessor based
systems is essentially a NP-hard problem. Basically this is a permutation based
combinatorial optimization problem which involves allocating a set of tasks to a set of
processors so as to minimize the makespan and ensures tasks to meet their timing
constraints. Conventional approach to meet fault-tolerance (FT) in scheduling RT tasks
based on traditional heuristic approach yields poor performance, like inefficient processor
utilization and higher task rejection. The primary-backup (PB) scheme is a popular
approach used as a fault-tolerant technique to schedule RT tasks with guarantee to meet
their deadlines despite presence of fault. In this paper, we propose a novel scheduling
algorithm using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique for providing FT in
multiprocessor environment. Exhaustive simulation study reveals that the proposed
primary-backup based fault-tolerant scheduling (PBFTS) scheme using PSO outperforms
other traditional fault-tolerant scheduling schemes in terms of performance, system
utilization and efficiency.

Abstract In this paper a simple methodology for solar photovoltaic system design based
on annual mean Global Solar Radiation (GSR) is presented. The approach involves sizing

operate the load with variable sequence of below average GSR days. This will mean that on
the average the battery will be probably charged during rest of the year even during the
worst season. The validity of the approach is examined in terms of the concept of the loss

Photovoltaic Power System

Abstract- Efficient extraction of available power from photovoltaic system is mandatory
that needs extraction techniques. A number of maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
techniques has been presented of which conventional techniques like perturb and observe
(P&O), incremental conductance (InCond) and hill-climbing are widely in use mainly
because of simple implementation and less complexity; however they fail to track the right
perturbation direction for rapid change atmospheric conditions and oscillations during
steady-sate operation. Different methods has been devised to improve the drawbacks,
among them fuzzy logic based technique is the one that works well for systems with no
accurate mathematical. Thus, in this paper fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based MPPT
technique using PV voltage and power variations as input and reference voltage change as
output has been proposed and implemented along with P&O method. The simulation results
of MPPT trajectory tracking capability, dynamic and steady state responses for variable
irradiance revealed superior performance of fuzzy based technique over P&O method.

Abstract The latest improvement in the application of PV system is because they
generate electric power without affecting the nature by directly changing the solar isolation
to electric power. At no time solar radiation remains fixed. It keeps on changing during
daytime. The demand is to supply a fixed voltage to the load regardless of change in
temperature and solar radiation. In this paper we demonstrated a model which generates
fixed and boost up dc voltage to the load. This paper will be commenced by the basic
understanding of the overall system, different circuits used in its design and the reason for
choosing such circuits. As the output of the PV array is unregulated due to change in
different parameters so as to increase this voltage, boost converter is used here. The duty
cycle of DC-DC converter is controlled by using different MPPT techniques - P&O, Fuzzy

A Cuk-Sepic Fused Converter Topology For Wind-Solar Hybrid

Systems For Stand-Alone Systems
Suresh K V, Vinayaka K U, Rajesh U
Abstract- A countrys economic activity has a direct impact on the energy scenario of that
country. The gap between the energy demand and the supply is continuously growing due
to the increased dependency on the conventional energy sources which have limited
resources. Continuous use of fossil fuels for generating energy has led to the effect of
global warming. In India there is a huge scope for utilization of renewable energy resources
due to its geographical location. Use of renewable energy resources reduces the effect of
global warming and it also provides energy security since fossil fuels such as coal and
crude oil are not abundantly available in India. The renewable energy sources are
fluctuating in nature hence the hybridization is required to overcome the fluctuating nature
to an extent. In this paper the dual input single output DC-DC converters are proposed for
stand-alone systems. The converter is a combination of CUK and SEPIC converter called
CUK-SEPIC fused converter

active participants for managing the amount of electricity generation and demand.
Controlling and influencing energy demand can reduce the overall peak load demand,
reshape the demand profile and increase the grid sustainability. Demand side management
of residential load in a smart grid using two dimensional particle swarm optimization (2D

Damping of Inter area Oscillations of a Wind Farm based

Multimachine Power System using an Unified Power Flow Controller
R. K. Patnaik, S. K . Routray
AbstractAn adaptive second order sliding mode control strategy is proposed for of the
Series Synchronous Static Compensator (SSSC) of the Unified Power Flow Controller
(UPFC) which is installed in a multimachine power network penetrated with a Doubly Fed
Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind power. The proposed controller utilizes the
instantaneous power components of the SSSC instead of the conventional current or torque
components (thus the dynamics of the phase lock loops (PLL) is avoided) and has been
made to adapt according to the diverse operating conditions of the network. This feature has
made the proposed controller to be more significant (in terms of improvement of the
transient stability) as compared to the conventional techniques as both the inter area as well
as local oscillations have been improved. The overall power system network has been
modeled in MATLAB/Editor environment, and the proposed controller has been
investigated for both lower and higher wind penetration conditions and the results obtained
are satisfactory.

Abstract Present paper discusses about a reliable and cost effective optimal design for
hybrid energy systems using meta-heuristic techniques. Design, planning and control of
hybrid systems require complex optimization of the same which may not be solved easily
with the conventional optimization methods. Several meta-heuristic optimization
techniques such as particle swarm optimization techniques (PSO), differential evolution
(DE), genetic algorithm (GA) etc have been successfully applied to solve these problems.
One of the major difficulties in these methods is the premature convergence. In the present
paper a new improved optimization technique based on PSO has been proposed to avoid
premature convergence while optimizing the overall cost of energy of a hybrid power
system of wind turbine, photovoltaic generator, diesel generator and battery bank. The
results obtained by this improved method are compared with an iterative method. It is
found that the new improved method can produce superior results.

Maifooz K. Sheikh, P. M. Meshram, V. B. Borghate
AbstractModular multilevel converter (MMC) based on modified flying capacitor
multicell converter has been discussed. It is a recently introduced topology which is an
extension of flying capacitor multicell (FCMC) converter topology. This paper
usesselective harmonic elimination(SHE) techniqueto eliminate the lower order harmonics
from the inverter output and maintain the fundamental voltage. The nonlinear and
transcendental equations are needed to be solved to obtain the switching angles at which the
inverter must be fired. This paper presents the Newton-Raphson method to solve these
nonlinear equations. There are numbers of method such as homotopy algorithm, resultant
theory method, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, ant colony optimization etc.
to solve these non-linear equations however Newton-Raphson method is easiest of all to
understand and compute. The simulations of 7-level MMC with selective harmonic
elimination (SHE) technique have been carried in MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Dispatch of Hydrothermal Power System with Cascaded Reservoirs
Biswa Ranjan Kuanr, Himanshu Shekhar, Niladri Chakraborty
Abstract In this paper an imperialistic competition algorithm (ICA) based optimization
technique is presented for solving the short-term economic emission dispatch (EED)
problem in a hydrothermal system with cascaded reservoirs. Various operating constraints
of the hydro system such as flow rate limit, reservoir storage volume limit, dynamic water
balance, power generation limit and transportation delay between cascaded reservoirs are
taken into account while for thermal units valve point effects and generation limits are
considered in problem formulation. The bi-objective EED problem is converted to a single
objective problem by price penalty factor approach. The proposed approach is successfully
implemented on a test system comprising of three thermal units and four cascaded hydro
units. A comparison of the result obtained by the proposed approach with those provided
by other population based meta-heuristic techniques established proposed techniques
superiority both in terms of result quality and computation time.

EAOMDV: An Energy Efficient Multipath Routing Protocol for

MANET
Prasanta Kumar Manohari, Niranjan Ray
Abstract Multipath routing protocols are more popular in mobile ad hoc networks
(MANETs), as they overcomes certain limitations of single-path routing. Compared to
single-path routing approaches they have many advantages in term of higher throughput,
lower end-to-end delay, higher energy efficiency and network lifetime. Energy efficiency is
crucial requirements in many applications as nodes in MANETs are battery operated. In this
paper, Energy Aware On-demand Multipath Distance Vector Routing (EAOMDV) is
introduced. EAOMDV is a multipath routing protocol which selects paths between sourcedestination pair based on a route cost function. The cost function is computed by

considering residual battery power of a node and its present traffic. We evaluate the
performance of EAOMDV by comparing it with an existing protocol AOMDV [1].

higher packet delivery ratio.

Identification Of Non-linear Dynamic Systems Using Smooth Variable

Structure Filter
Sebamai Parija, P. K. Dash, Shazia Hasan
Abstract This paper proposes a model based approach for nonlinear dynamic system
identification, which utilizes Smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) having multi fold
advantages over other adaptive filters. The SVSF is based on sliding mode control concept
and can be applied to both linear and nonlinear system. Further to increase the accuracy of
nonlinear chaotic system identification the memory element is tuned iteratively in the
measurement matrix of SVSF. So, a self tuning approach for updating memory element is
proposed, which is inversely proportional to the sample number. Further SVSF is modified
by introducing a nonlinear term with square innovation error in measurement matrix to
achieve higher order sliding mode control . The effect and the improvement of this
modification has been verified under different test conditions. Various simulations have
been carried out to show the stability and improved robustness of the proposed algorithm
over other conventional methods. The mean square error obtained using this approach is
found to be significantly less than other conventional methods.

The singular value matrix of the reduced 3-lead data is transformed to a higher dimension
using a transform matrix. For evaluation purpose, the proposed method is applied to a
publicly available database. It contains number of 12-lead ECG recordings with different
cardiac patients data. The proposed method performs well for reconstruction of precordial
leads in case of myocardial infarction. The percent correlation exceeds 97% for most of the
precordial leads. After reconstruction of 12-lead ECG data, the performance of the method
is measured using three measures namely percent correlation, PRD and WEDD between the
original and the synthesized data.

New Features for Emotional Speech Recognition

Hemanta Kumar Palo, Mihir Narayan Mohanty, Mahesh Chandra
AbstractBio-medical research extends towards human voice and auditory systems day by
day. Similarly it helps for the security issues. Emotion analysis and recognition for such
purpose is a challenging task. To analyze and recognize, the emotions has been attempted in
this piece of work. Initially, Sub-band spectral features have been extracted to characterize
high arousal angry, happy, fear, surprise and neutral speech emotions. Further, two new
features as spectrum and cepstrum with vector quantization has been used. Finally,
simulations for robust feature have been applied to Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN)
classifier for recognition and the performance. Classifier performance degrades in presence
of large unknown data due to data dependency smoothing parameter over sensitization of
training data. As Vector Quantization (VQ) has the ability to reduce the feature size, the
modified feature sets are developed to improve the classifier robustness. Promising results
have been manifested in result section.

Abstract The paper presents a novel design of an antenna in a finite ground coplanar
waveguide (CPW) circuit. A CPW feed is further characterized by its length, width, input
impedance, radiation pattern and gain. A coplanar patch antenna for single band has been
proposed at 11.8 GHz with about 3.04dB gain and the design has been extended for
multiband with about 5.6 dB gain and an improved bandwidth which renders uniqueness to
the design. Critical and simulation results reveal that the proposed design is applicable for
X-band application.

Embedded local feature based background modeling for video object

detection
Manisha Mandal, Pradipta Kumar Nanda
AbstractBackground modeling has been one of the approaches for detecting foreground
in a video. The challenge is when some of the entities of background are dynamic instead
of being static. In this paper, we propose a feature embedding scheme to model background
having some dynamic objects and varying illumination conditions. The two local feature
extracting operators such as Local Binary Pattern(LBP) operator and Gabor filter have been
appropriately embedded to model texture backgrounds with dynamic entities. The
embedding has been in non linear frame work and the notion of information theoretic
measure has been used to take care of the above two condition in the background. This
background model has learned to efficiently model the background of the video. The
performance of the proposed feature embedded algorithm has been found to be better than
those of Huerta et al.s [11] algorithm and Heikkila et al.s [12] algorithm. Simulation
results have been presented for video frames of PETS sequences.

AbstractIn this paper, the problem of segmenting images with nonuniform lighting
conditions has been addressed. It has been observed that for such images homogenous
granulation based thresholding algorithms yields poor results. In order to deal with such
images, the notion of adaptive windowing has been employed using the notion of window
growing. The windows have been fixed based on the entropy measure. Each window is
segmented based on the proposed nonhomogenous and heterogenous granular computing.
The results obtained by the heterogenous and nonhomogenous granule based scheme have
been compared with homogenous granular based scheme and Otsus method. The results
obtained by the proposed method are superior to that of homogenous granulation and
Otsus method [3].

AbstractFace recognition for biometric purposes has an advantage of being a non-contact
process. Various face recognition algorithms has been proposed in the literature. The face
recognition system mainly consists of two steps i.e. feature extraction / reduction and
classification. One of the most popular tool, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is used
for feature extraction. For classification purpose, various distance classifiers as well as
Support Vector Machines (SVM) with various kernels are used. Radial basis function
(RBF) kernel in SVM is one of the widely used kernels for this purpose. In this paper,
Mexican hat wavelet kernel based SVM is proposed for classification and the comparison
of this kernel with other classification methods are examined. The proposed kernel
performs better in terms of no. of support vectors compared to RBF kernel and the
recognition rate is also high with less number of features.

Performance Comparison of Ensemble Models for Recognition of

Offline Handwritten Odia Numerals
Pushpalata Pujari and Babita Majhi
Abstract In this paper an ensemble model is proposed for the recognition of Odia
handwritten character. The ensemble model is constructed from four base classifiers:
Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), C5.0 Decision Tree and
Discriminant Analysis (DA). Gradient and curvature based features are extracted from the
numerals and a combination of gradient and curvature based features is taken for
simulation. The features are reduced by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). First
the numerals are classified by the individual classifiers. Then the ensemble models are
formed with all possible combinations. The outputs of the classifiers are combined by
using confidential weighted scheme to obtain ensemble models. The classification results
obtained from individual classifier and all ensemble models are compared. It is observed
that the ensemble of SVM+DA and SVM+C5.0+DA outperformed well each with 97.5% of
accuracy on test dataset as compared for other eight ensemble models.

geocast routing is prerequisite. Also, through geocast routing the genesis and realization of
virtual warning system in vehicular communication is possible for enhancing road safety
and security. Due to high dynamicity of network topology, large scale vehicular system and
highly mobile vehicular nodes, relaying of geocast packets through multi-hop relay nodes

has been presented using maximally flat (MF) error minimization method for addressing
the problem of pass-band droop. The coefficients of the second order and fourth order
compensation filters are obtained by applying Maximally Flat conditions. The proposed
sixth order CIC compensation filter is the result of cascade of second order and fourth order
compensation filters. The proposed compensation filter reduces the pass-band droop of CIC
by considerable amount .The comparison has been done with that of the compensation done
by the fourth order compensation filter.

A Novel Approach to Extract Maximum Power from

Shaded PV Array

Partially

Himanshu Sekhar Sahu, Sisir Kumar Nayak

Abstract The modules of a PV array receive different intensity of solar irradiation under
partial shading condition and hence mismatch losses occurs between the modules. Multiple
local maxima exist in the power-voltage characteristics of a PV array and out of multiple
local maxima one of them is a global maximum power point (GMPP). This paper presents a
new approach to distribute the shading effect over the entire array to reduce the mismatch
losses, and enhance the power output of a PV array. In this approach, the physical position
of the modules in the Total Cross Tied (TCT) configuration are arranged, without changing
the electrical connection of the modules, and also the arrangement of the modules in the

TCT configuration is done in such a way that, the shading effect is distributed over the
entire array, and hence it reduces the multiple local maxima in power-voltage characteristics
of a PV array. Thus the tracking of GMPP in the present approach is simpler. In this paper,
the output power of a PV array estimated theoretically and by MATLAB simulation for the
TCT and the proposed configuration is compared. It is investigated that, the power
generation of a PV array with proposed configuration is improved compared to the TCT
configuration under different shading patterns.

Islanding Disclosure for Grid Interactive PV-VSC System using

Negative Sequence Voltage
Sheetal Chandak, Snehamoy Dhar, S K Barik
Abstract This paper presents a new study on active islanding detection method for grid
connected photovoltaic (PV) based voltage source converter (VSC) system. The VSC
system is basically controlled by positive sequence P-Q loop, where point of common
coupling (PCC) power components are measured parameters. But during grid disconnection
an islanding detection loop is further implemented with existing control, based on negative
sequence voltage ( Vneg , dq ) at PCC. The threshold for the feedback sequence voltage is
determined to maintain a negligible non detection zone (NDZ) and to avoid false detection
during other power quality issues. Worst case scenario is considered by implementing a PV
based VSC system from IEEE UL 1741 standard. Performance of the proposed islanding
detection loop is investigated in MATLAB/ Simulink environment. The efficient detection
of islanding with less than a cycle Run on time is ensured by the result analysis, where no
significant effect in power quality during normal operating condition has been maintained.

(WECS). The proposed control strategy attempts a dual purpose of maximum power
extraction from the wind turbine and an optimal efficiency of the induction generator. This
combination of the controller strategy results in increasing the overall efficiency. Here the
configuration helps to exploit the low wind speed region, with the system comprising of
HAWT and SCIG. A maximum power extraction (MPE) controller is used to extract the
maximum wind turbine output power and Loss Minimization (LM) controller is introduced
to minimize the generator electric loss. The input to both optimal controllers is the
differential speed available due to the gears at generator unit. The switching scheme used is
space vector modulation devoid of the wind speed measurement, unlike its dependence in
other algorithms. The controllers determine the optimal d-axis and q-axis stator current
components of the induction generator through optimal conditions and, thus fast dynamic
response of the WECS is achieved. The entire proposed system is modeled and simulated
using power system Simulink blocks in MATLAB R2013a to obtain the desired results. The
studies have been carried out to confirm the effectiveness and the operational
improvements. This system of dual controller can be implemented in a real world WECS
system.

Kumari Sarwagya , Paresh Kumar Nayak
AbstractDistribution generation (DG) based on renewable energy sources at the
distribution voltage level is gaining popularity among utilities and consumers due to
numerous technical, economical and environmental benefits. The concept of microgrids
(MGs) has been proposed as an attractive alternative to integrate large number of DGs with
distribution systems. MGs can operate either in islanded or grid connected mode of
operation. The bidirectional power flow and the significant variation in the fault current
levels during grid connected and islanded mode of operation imposes significant challenges
in designing a proper protection scheme for such system. To solve this problem, recently a
number of alternative solutions have been proposed in the technical literature. This paper
addresses the protection problems of MGs in detail and critically reviews the existing
schemes proposed for MG protection. The most up to date relevant options are described
and categorized into specific groups. Finally, a comparative assessment is carried out in
which relative advantages and disadvantages of each protection strategy are evaluated.

Design of Nonlinear and Conventional STATCOM Controllers to

Mitigate Transient Stability of a Power System
Asim Halder , Debasish Mondal
AbstractThis paper proposes a novel scheme to design a nonlinear optimal feedback
controller for a STATCOM in order to enhance transient stability of a power system. The
method of exact linearization with Brunovsky normal form is employed to formulate the
nonlinear control law. The optimal gain matrix of the feedback controller is estimated
applying Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) approach. The performance of this nonlinear
controller is compared with a conventional lead-lag based STATCOM controller in presence
of different operating scenarios of a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) power system.
The tuning parameters of the conventional controller are optimized through a popular
heuristic computation technique, Particle Swarm optimization (PSO). From the simulation
results it has been observed that both the conventional and the nonlinear controllers
effective in mitigating transient stability but the performance of the nonlinear controller is
found to be more satisfactory and better than the PSO based conventional controller.

P. Acharjee
Abstract The Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization (HPSO), combination of Genetic

power flow analysis with the UPFC. The breeding and subpopulation procedure which are
applied in GA are merged into APSO for the proposed security constraint Hybrid PSO

modeled considering actual losses of power transmission in UPFC, switching losses of the
two converters of UPFC and losses of the coupling transformers. The multi-objective
optimization problem is converted to a single objective minimization problem providing
proper weighting factors and the unique objective function is formulated considering
practical security constraints. Six groups of line flows are set for the UPFC at different

Abstract This paper presents transient analysis of Automatic Generation Control (AGC)
with a ramp disturbance in a Thermal-Thermal two area Power System (each area contains
two units), including the effect of Capacitive Energy Storage (CES) and Superconducting
Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES). Generally all the disturbance are taken into
consideration as unit step disturbance, because it indicates the sudden change of state. Here
it is assumed that the disturbance is taking place gradually rather than instantly. In this case
a comparison study is done with AGC and with two other cases, i.e. AGC with CES unit
and with SMES unit. In this system the PID controller is used. By the help of I, PI & PID
controller strategy the dynamic responses are also studied. System modelling has been done
by the help of MATLAB SIMULINK software.

Scheme for Micro-Grid
Susmita Kar, S. R. Samantaray
Abstract The paper presents a data-mining based comprehensive protection scheme for
micro-grid using decision tree. The proposed scheme pre-processes the current and voltage
signals at both ends of the faulted feeder using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and
compute the differential features, which are used to build two decision trees (DTs) for the
final relaying decision. The differential features between immediate buses are considered
for primary protection and differential features between far end buses are used to build datamining model (DT) for secondary protection. The proposed scheme is tested for fault and
no fault situations in the studied micro-grid with wide variations in system operating
parameters and fault parameters including grid-connected and islanded modes of operation.
The extensive test results show that the proposed intelligent relaying scheme can provide
reliable protection measure considering both primary as well as backup protection for safe
and secured micro-grid operation.

Effects of Unscheduled Interchange based Secondary Frequency

Control on Tie Line Power of Multi-area Hybrid Power System
Gargi Konar, Niladri Chakraborty, Kamal Krishna Mandal
AbstractThe significance of interconnected power system is growing day-by-day as
many a times the availability resources for electric power generation depends on
geographical locations and is distributed in nature. At the same time the strengths of
demands are not uniform in a country like India. Hence to mitigate the gap between power
generation and demand, especially in a country like India, interconnected power systems
are the best choice. Again the economy of power generation should be optimized by
keeping the interest of buyers and sellers of power at satisfactory level. In this regard
Unscheduled Interchange (UI) price based load frequency control has been adopted here to
study the tie line power fluctuations of an interconnected power system. A four area power
system having generations from thermal power, hydro power and diesel/biomass power has
been considered for load frequency control. This system is simulated first for sudden load
changes in all areas. In next case, the tie line power variations due to disconnections of all
tie lines of a particular area with others are studied.

Abstract Major Wireless Sensor Network designs are focused on improving the network
lifetime. The data aggregation process is the simplest way to achieve this. The PEGASIS
routing protocol is a promising approach for efficient data aggregation in Wireless Sensor
Networks. It is also reported in the literature that the PEGASIS performs better than

LEACH and HEED protocol towards improving the network lifetime. However, in
PEGASIS, the selection of a leader located far away from the base station still remains
exposed to higher energy consumption for sending aggregated data. In this paper, we
propose an enhancement to the chain formation process of PEGASIS to further improve its
lifetime, and called it PEGASIS with Improved Network Lifetime (PEGASIS-INL). In
contrast to original PEGASIS protocol, the PEGASIS-INL selects a node as a leader only if
it is within a strong communication range of base station. A multiple overlapped chain
formation and the aggregation technique is used for transmission of sensed information to
the base station. Experimental results demonstrate that the PEGASIS-INL algorithm
outperforms PEGASIS in terms of the product of consumed energy and delay, weighting the
overall performance of both the energy consumption and the network lifetime.

Computation
Rakhi Saha , Sambita Dalal
Abstract With the advancement of nanometer scale design technology, transient faults
often occur in circuits and thus require low power dissipation design. Reversible logic has
become one of the recent emerging research interests contributing to the field of low power
dissipating circuit design in the past few years. Few of its application areas include CMOS
low power design, quantum computing, network security, digital signal and image
processing, optical electronics and nanotechnology. This paper presents a comparative study
of efficacy of various reversible full adder and reversible full subtractor gate and their
quantum cost values to obtain energy efficient logic design. A novel design approach for
implementing reversible combinational circuits using the existing Reversible logic gates
and new improved Reversible logic gates is discussed in this paper. The reversible logic
circuits are designed and implemented using Verilog code. The simulation results are
obtained in Xilinx ISE version 9.2i.

Abstract With the demand of 3G wireless network access is increasing, high performance
Wide Band Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) transceivers are needed. Low Noise
Amplifier (LNA) is the key component of WCDMA transceivers. In this paper, we designed
the various configurations of LNA (Single-ended LNA, Differential LNA, Current-reuse
LNA) at 180nm technology and compared their performance metrics. The LNA is designed
for low power, high gain applications and it provides a series of good performance in Noise
Figure (NF), Linearity, Power consumption and Figure of merit (FOM). Our analysis shows
that Current-reuse LNA (CRLNA) achieve the best gain and FOM among all the other
configurations. The FOM of CRLNA is 1.5507GHz/mW which is higher than others LNA
configurations. Further, we proposed a novel endeavor in the form of an Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) model which estimates different amplifier parameters based upon the
simulated results, thereby, providing an alternative to the popular simulation tools which are
based on complex analytical and mathematical models and are time consuming.

Face Recognition with Varying Facial Expression Using Local

Directional Number Pattern
Dr.A.Srikrishna, Ch. Sri Hari Priya, P. Aditya Kiran
Abstract This paper presents a method for face recognition using local directional
number pattern (LDN). LDN adopts encoding the directional pattern of the face and
produces a more selective code than methods listed in the literature. The directional patterns
are computed using the compass mask and the information is encoded using the prominent
direction indices (directional numbers) and sign which distinguishes among similar
structural features. The proposed method divides the face into several blocks, and computes
the LDN features for each block. Later feature vector for each block is constituted based on
these LDN features. The face descriptor is obtained by concatenating these feature vectors.
An experimental result shows that the proposed LDN performs consistently under noise,
illumination, expression, and time lapse variations. The performance is evaluated using
FRET databases.

Eigen Error Features
R. K. Tripathy, L. N. Sharma, S. Dandapat
Abstract Accurate detection of life-threatening cardiac ailments is one of the important
task in monitoring patients health. In this paper, a new method for detection and
classification of cardiac ailments from multilead electrocardiogram (MECG) is presented.
The singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to convert the MECG data matrix into two
unitary matrices (eigen matrices) and one diagonal matrix. According to clinical
importance, first few atoms from the eigen matrices are selected. The root mean square
error (RMSE) between the unitary matrices of both template MECG and analyzed MECG
are used as diagnostic eigen error (DEE) features. The combination of singular values of
analyzed MECG and DEE features are used as input to the least square support vector
machine (LSSVM) classifier. The LSSVM detect the cardiac ailments such as myocardial
infarction and hypertrophy. An average accuracy of 95.07% is found using LSSVM
classifier with radial basis function (RBF) kernel and 5-fold cross-validation scheme.

Intelligent RSSI Based Tuning of Receiver PLL of a Cognitive Radio

Dipak Samanta, Raily De
Abstract The popularity of radio communication is increasing day by day but the
availability of free radio spectrum is proving to be more difficult. Paradoxically a sizable
part of total radio frequency spectrum is either underutilized or not utilized at all. To
overcome this situation, Cognitive Radios or radios with built in automatic sensing facility
have been thought of. Research activity is taking place to implement this type of radio. In
this paper we have implemented a scheme in which the radio receiver will detect Received
Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) condition of a particular channel and will force the PhaseLocked-Loop (PLL) to lock to a new frequency or channel with proper value of Signal-toNoise-and-Distortion (SINAD) automatically. The scheme was implemented in the
laboratory set up through emulation and the result has been described in the paper.

Abstract A wide band optimized H-slot microstrip antenna is described in this paper. The
radiating patch is mounted upon a dielectric substrate and the antenna is excited by a
microstrip line feed. The antenna dimensions and the radiation parameters such as return
loss, VSWR, gain and directivity are studied using Ansoft HFSS. Particle Swarm

optimizing the proposed antenna. This method provided better results in the design of the
antenna and it also analyzed the effect of the various design parameters like substrate length
and height, length of the patch and feed. The improvement in the results has been included
in the design. Therefore, with the modified parameters, the antenna exhibits 50% increase in
bandwidth which is shown in the results section.

Chaudhuri Manoj Kumar Swain, Susmita Das
Abstract In this paper, an empirical path loss model is proposed for a WiMAX network
operating on a carrier frequency of 2.63GHz for a rural terrain condition. This model is
developed by means of real time measurements which are conducted on a deployed BSNL
WiMAX network at Kuchinda, Sambalpur district, Odisha. The real time data like received
signal strength indicator (RSSI),Carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR) are collected
at different locations of that network and with the help of those data, a new real time path
loss model is proposed using MATLAB simulation software. The proposed path loss model
is compared with existing path loss models for identifying the one which closely
approximates with it.The value of path loss exponent, path loss due to shadowing are
calculated. Also, the relationships between RSSI, CINR and distance between base station
(BS) and customer premise equipment (CPE) are formulated.

An Energy Efficient Time Synchronization Protocol for Wireless Sensor

Networks using Clustering
Parminder Kaur, Abhilasha
Abstract: During the past decade, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has been enormously
used in various fields such as military, environmental and traffic monitoring, home
monitoring, medical, space and undersea exploration. These applications require
deployment of sensors which detect or sense data from environment and relay this
information to the base station or central unit. The sensors operate autonomously so left
unattended in hostile environment. To detect exact event time, the clocks of individual
nodes need to be synchronized with global clock time. Therefore time synchronization is
very important for efficient and stable WSN. It requires accurate time stamping of events
and coordination between the sensor nodes. Time Synchronization algorithms tackle
different factors but synchronizing accuracy and energy conservation are major issues in
WSNs which helps to prolong the lifetime of network. This paper presents a Nearest
Neighbour Node clustering algorithm which conserves energy alongside accuracy while
synchronizing the network. The simulation result shows that this algorithm has better
performance than existing time synchronization algorithm TPSN.

Satyaranjan Jena, Pratik Ranjan Behera, Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi
AbstractAs the power demand increases rapidly in the electricity market the use of
renewable energy sources also increasing. Renewable sources are significantly different
from the traditional power sources due to their stochastic nature. Therefore it is a tough task
to integrate renewable energy sources with the existing utility grid. In order to ensure the
grid reliability, current controlled Pulse Width Modulated VSI is used to interface
renewable energy sources with utility grid. This paper presents a relative analysis between
Conventional Hysteresis Current Controller (CHCC) and Modified Hysteresis Current
Controller (MHCC) for 1- grid integrated inverter system. The benefit MHCC is, it avoids
short circuiting of the DC link voltage. Further MHCC gives more sinusoidal current and

AbstractThis paper proposes an efficient islanding detection and classification technique
based on the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) algorithm for the wind farm based
distributed generation (DG) connected to a power grid. In regard to design of any
classification technique, learning time is a vital aspect to be considered. Thus having
inherited with a good capability of generalization and an efficient and speedy leaning
capacity, the single hidden layered ELM technique is an attractive technique for developing
the detection and classification algorithms. The target feature set comprises of the Total

gauss-newton algorithm (instead of the conventional Widrow-Hoff delta rule), the input to
which are the raw voltage and current at the target DG (where the wind velocity is varied
from a minimum to maximum cut-off range). These target feature sets are then utilized by

Tanmoy Roy Choudhury, Byamakesh Nayak
Abstract In this paper, an overall comparison between the Quadratic Boost Converter
(QBC) & Cascaded Converter or Cascaded Boost Converter (CBC) is given in terms of
ideal condition, as well as with the consideration of Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) of
inductor-capacitor. The differences in the voltage gain due to the individual effect of
inductive and capacitive ESR is shown in this paper. The parameters of the converters are
found out with a consideration of per unit ripple quantity of inductor current and capacitor
voltage. It is seen that in QBC & CBC voltage gain is same but the power stress rating of
the switch in prior one is more compared to the later. At the end, the simulation results of
both the converters are given for a 20V/98V, 100 W output. The analysis and simulation
results are presented in this paper for the verification of the feasibility.

A Fast Discrete Time-Frequency Filtering Based Current Differential

Protection for Shunt Compensated Wide Area Power System Networks
P. K. Dash, O. Dharmapandit, S. K. Swain , P. K. Nayak
Abstract This paper presents a time-frequency filtering approach suitable for current
differential protection of transmission lines in a wide area power network. The current
differential protection scheme efficiently discriminates between the internal and external
faults in the protected zone of a transmission network and exhibits stability and robustness.
For detecting the occurrence of a fault on the transmission line a cumulative sum average
(CUSUM) technique is used and the fault classification and location are determined using
the spectral energy of the average and differential currents based on a recent matrix version
of the fast discrete S-transform. This new formulation uses intelligent frequency scaling,
band pass filtering, and suitable interpolation techniques to reduce the computational
overhead of the algorithm by almost 30 times in comparison to the earlier conventional Stransform. Further the new protection scheme will be a viable and competing one with the
advent synchrophasors technology and wide area high speed communication and GPS
systems. Also its viability is tested for the wide area network with a STATCOM placed at
the middle of one of the transmission lines injecting reactive currents which requires the
detection of the occurrence of the fault before or after the compensating device.

AbstractIn recent times, the power system has expanded in an unprecedented way owing
to technological innovations and geographical dimensions. For ensuring proper operation,
monitoring and control, a system called Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS) has
evolved. Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is one of the vital components of WAMS. Any
failure in PMU has catastrophic consequences on WAMS. Thus reliability analysis of PMU
is of utmost importance. Hidden Markov model (HMM) is one of the important techniques

for evaluating reliability. However, while evaluating the reliability of PMU using HMM, the
HMM parameters such as state transition probability matrix (A), observation probability

An Area Optimized Carry Select Adder

Rupashree Sahu, Asit Kumar Subudhi
AbstractIn arithmetic operation, adder is the basic hardware unit. So adder performance
affects the overall system-performance. Carry Select Adder (CSLA) is widely used in many
data processors for high speed application and in digital circuits to perform arithmetic
operations. The Regular Square root (SQRT) CSLA consumes more area due to the
presence of two Ripple carry adders (RCA) in the structure. To optimize the area of Regular
SQRT CSLA, one of the RCAs was replaced by a Binary to Excess- 1 Converter (BEC)
though at the cost of slight increase in delay. Many such improvements have lead to design
variety of SQRT CSLAs by using Common Boolean logic(CBL), First addition logic(FAL),
Add-one circuit, Modified Reduced Logic Block(MRLB) etc to achieve optimization in
terms of area, delay and power. This work proposes a new design comprising of RCA with
Cin=0 and a new logic (NL) for Cin=1 to reduce the area as compared to the Regular SQRT

CSLA and Modified SQRT CSLA using BEC. The proposed design is synthesized and
simulated in Xilinx ISE design suite 14.2 and is implemented on Spartan 3E XC3S1600E5-FG484 FPGA device. The comparison shows how the proposed SQRT CSLA is better
than the existing regular SQRT CSLA and SQRT CSLA using BEC. The speed of proposed

Instantaneous Power based Feedback Linearization Control Strategy

for stabilization of a grid-connected Voltage Source Converter
R. K. Patnaik, S. P. Mishra, J. P. Patra
Abstract This paper proposes a new feedback linearization control strategy for the gridconnected voltage source converter (VSC). The instantaneous power components at the
VSC terminal are being utilized as its dynamic variables. It is due to fact that, as these
power components can be directly computed from the three-phase instantaneous voltage
and current components measured at the VSC terminal, the need of abc-to-dq
transformation, i.e. the unmodelled dynamics of the phase lock loops (PLL) is significantly
avoided at this stage. In addition, as these components are being utilized in the proposed
feedback linearization control strategy, this becomes an added benefit of reducing the
computational complexity of the algorithm with an advantage of improving the stability of
the VSC subjected to some intricate disturbances. The robustness and accuracy of the

A Novel ANC System using Nonlinear Error LMS Algorithm

Gaurav Singh, G.Panda
Abstract The conventional Filtered-x Least Mean Square (FxLMS) shows poor
performance in the presence of non linearities present in the primary and the secondary
path. The functional link artificial neural network (FLANN) has been successfully applied
to tackle the nonlinearity in the primary and secondary paths. However, all these methods of
active noise control use a linear model to obtain an estimate of the non linear secondary
path. This paper proposes a FLANN based nonlinear model to obtain an estimate of thenon
linear secondary path. In addition, a FLANN based controller is also developed to generate
anti noise. A new update rule nonlinear-error least mean square (NELMS) is derived and
used for updating the weights of the first FLANN model by utilizing the intermediate
signals of the second FLANN model. The simulation results presented exhibit superior
performance of the proposed method compared to that of FsLMS-ANC method.

Wireless Power Transfer for High-precision Position Detection of

Railroad Vehicles
Hyun-Gyu Ryu, Dongsoo Har
AbstractDetection of vehicle position is critical for successful operation of intelligent
transportation system. In case of railroad transportation systems, position information of
railroad vehicles can be detected by GPS, track circuits, and so on. In this paper, position
detection based on tags onto sleepers of the track is investigated. Position information
stored in the tags is read by a reader placed at the bottom of running railroad vehicle. Due to
limited capacity of battery or its alternative in the tags, power required for transmission of
position information to the reader is harvested by the tags from the power wirelessly
transferred from the reader. Basic mechanism in wireless power transfer is magnetic
induction and power transfer efficiency according to the relative location of the reader to a

tag is discussed with simulation results. Since power transfer efficiency is significantly
affected by the ferromagnetic material (steel) at the bottom of the railroad vehicle and the
track, magnetic beam shaping by ferrite material is carried out. With the ferrite material for
magnetic beam shaping, degradation of power transfer efficiency due to the steel is
substantially reduced. Based on the experimental results, successful wireless power transfer
to the tag coil is possible when transmitted power from the reader coil is close to a few
watts.

Balanced Tree for data Transmission to Maximize the Lifetime of

Wireless Sensors Networks
Manoj Kumar, Dr.K.James.Mathai
Abstract In Wireless Sensor Networks, sensor nodes have limited resources such as
processing power, memory and energy. Energy is an important factor to determine the
lifetime of the network. Most part of the energy of a node is consumed in transmitting and
receiving the data. Data transmission should be energy efficient to maximize the networks
lifetime. Different architectures are used to transmit the data from source node to sink node
in wireless sensor network. This paper covers the studies of different approaches used to
maximize the lifetime of wireless sensor network using tree based architecture with the
proposed approach and its performance.
In this paper authors proposed a novel approach to construct the balanced tree for data
transmission to maximize the lifetime (BTDTML) of wireless sensor networks. The
proposed approach presented in this paper involves three parameters such as number of
children of intermediate node, energy value of node and distance, for the construction of
balanced tree and sink node works as the root of tree. Finally the Performance of the
BTDTML approach is compared with performance of Tree Based Data Aggregation
Mechanism (TDAM) for data transmission without using data aggregation. Simulation is
performed using Network Simulator 2 and Simulation results show that BTDTML approach
gives the better performance for the parameters residual energy of node, end to end delay
and packet delivery ratio for data transmission.

Abstract This paper describes the identification of a nonlinear time invariant system is
quite essential for its stability point of view. Among all the identification approaches,
FLANNs is the best one but in case of learning speed and convergence point of view it does
not work well. Amongst all the traditional approaches, a newly developed algorithm named
ELMs (Extreme Learning Machine) for identification and tracking bears only a hidden
layer chooses the input weights as well as threshold values randomly. Due to this above
matter of fact ELMs is widely named as SLFNs. This algorithm proofs best in terms of
generalization and shows better convergence at a very high learning speed. The
experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm is the best one for identification
detection and tracking cases which hold an extremely high rate of learning.

Abstract Recommender systems apply techniques of knowledge discovery for specific
problem to make personalized recommendation of the products or services to the users. The
huge growth in the information and the count of visitors to the web sites especially on ecommerce in last few years creates some challenges for recommender systems. Ecommerce recommender systems are vulnerable to the profile injection attacks, involving
insertion of fake profiles into the system to influence the recommendations made to the
users. Prior work has shown that performance of system can be affected by even small
number of biased profiles. In this paper, we show that unsupervised clustering approach can
be used effectively for the detection of profile injection attacks in recommender system.
Here we give a comparative study of four clustering algorithms and measure their

A Tamper Localization Approach for Reversible Watermarking based

on Histogram Bin Shifting
Awadhesh Kumar Yadav, Ruchira Naskar
Abstract In this paper, we have proposed a tamper localization approach for histogram
bin shifting based reversible watermarking algorithm, where original image can be obtained
from the watermarked image without any distortion. The tamper localization approach finds
out the tampered region of the image, which is used for the selective rejection of the cover
image. General application of reversible watermarking procedure says that the entire image
gets rejected at receiver side due to the hash mismatch and authentication failure. By using
our approach when the hash mismatch occurs the selected part of the image is rejected. This
will reduce the retransmission overhead on the communication channel and limited
bandwidth is required due to small subpart of retransmission of the image. We are taking
the advantage of the minimum and maximum point of the histogram for embedding
purpose. This will increase the embedding capacity. We have embedded the hash into
smaller subpart of the image until embedding is possible. This will help us to find out the
tampered region at the receiver end while extracting the hash. The case of hash mismatch in
cover image which will lead to selective rejection of the cover image.

AbstractIn recent years, multistatic radar systems are extensively used for detection
process, as it includes multiple transmitters and multiple receivers spaced at different
locations. Due to multiple transmitted signals by multiple transmitters, waveform design
with a large time-bandwidth product, low cross-correlation interferences, and a low peak
average power ratio, is a challenging task. Even thoughmany waveform design techniques
exist, they lack high time-bandwidth product, which is one of the primary requirements for
multistatic airborne radars. In this paper to meet these requirements, in the present study an

Satyasis Mishra, Ranjeeta Bisoi
AbstractThis paper proposes a new type of filter called neural network filter for image
denoising. The noisy images are fed as input to the network and the weights are updated
with LMS algorithm. Further the weights are updated by using a recently developed novel
optimization technique called Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) for gray
level image denoising application. Implementation of APSO is easier than the PSO(Particle
Swarm Optimization) and GA(Genetic Algorithm) in terms of computational time. The
results of comparison of the optimization has been presented.

Abstract This paper presents the modeling and simulation of integrated CUK converter
with EPP MPPT for grid connected photovoltaic system. Integrated CUK converter is
presented for the use as a high gain boost (step- up) converter whose switch operates in
continuous conduction mode. MPPT controllers are used in PV system to track the
maximum power due to its poor efficiency. The system is designed
in
MATLAB/SIMULINK and the simulation results shows the comparative analysis of high

Inertia emulation based sliding mode control of VSC HVDC system for
transmission of power from onshore wind farms to AC grids
Kaveri Mahapatra, P. K. Dash
Abstract This paper proposes a novel control method for controlling voltage source
converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (HVDC) converters present in a network
consisting of a Doubly Fed induction generator (DFIG) - wind farm (WF) connected to
infinite bus via an HVDC line and a parallel tie line. A new idea has been presented where
inertia emulation capability of capacitors present in HVDC network has been utilized with a
nonlinear control such as sliding mode control method. In this method the DC voltage
reference for the control is allowed to vary with the frequency deviations in the system for
emulating the inertia characteristics of the DC link capacitance and thus controlling the
power oscillations. The results of the proposed method are then compared with that of
conventional PI control. The simulations results obtained in MATLAB proved the
effectiveness in stabilizing the oscillations in case of various transient events and wind
power penetration levels.

A NEW HYBRID TOPOLOGY FOR MULTILEVEL INVERTER FOR

POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
Varsha Singh, S.Gupta, S.Pattnaik, M Tyagi
AbstractNowadays multilevel converter topology has been growing since last few
decades because it consists of lesser number of switches and DC sources. Multilevel
converter topology integrates the stepped waveform to produce waveform nearly equal to
sinusoidal waveform. To reduce switching losses and increasing efficiency of multilevel
inverter the core idea is to minimize the number of switches. The proposed topology is
based on minimum number of switches along with less number of voltage sources used. By
using this hybrid topology with modified stair case modulation method THD obtained

comparison is made on THD and power loss of MLI on SSPWM and modified stair case
modulation method. Using proposed method the power loss is 86.82% reduced as compare
to CHB method for same level. A modified stair case modulation is used for triggering of
switches. A MATLAB/SIMULINK model is used for the purpose. Hardware arrangement is
yet to be realized.

Krishnanand K.R., Joymala Moirangthem, and S.K. Panda
AbstractThis paper presents a generic output model of multilevel inverters formed
through cascaded H-bridges and their flexibility in attaining desired harmonic levels, which
could also include elimination of the selected harmonics. The signal model of the possible
outputs of a multilevel inverter is mathematically represented and then compared with a
conventional signal model that is based on harmonic decomposition. The mathematical
relations thus obtained are used for formulation of objectives of selective harmonic
optimization. An example of optimization using a stochastic algorithm is presented for
validation. The content presented is an enabling step for ensuring smartness in the operation
of the multilevel inverters when connected to a microgrid.

Abstract This paper present the Direct Torque Control of three-leg inverter fed
symmetrical two-phase induction motor. The two-phase induction motor is modeled and the
required equations for controlling electromagnetic torque and stator flux are presented. The
look-up table for controlling the switching states of the three-leg inverter is obtained. The
simulation is carried out at no-load condition and dynamic condition for the verification of
results for direct torque control of symmetrical two-phase induction motor.
