Biotechnology and its Applications

Abstract
Biotechnology is the application of the knowledge obtained from
genetic investigations to the advancement of human welfare. It is
essential to humans in all aspect of life. One example of biotechnology;
genetic engineering, is the technique of removing, modifying or adding
genes to a DNA molecule in order to change the information it contains.
Biotechnology and its techniques, although some are controversial and
questionable because of ethical and moral issues, provide possible
solutions to such problems, including infertility, diseases, food production,
waste disposal and improvement of species.

Introduction
Biotechnology is the utilization
of organisms or their products for
useful
purposes.
Traditional
biotechnology focuses more on
industrial
and
environmental
processes
while
modern
biotechnology
centers
on
modifying the human genome.
One example of this, is genetic
engineering,
where
DNA
are
modified to improve the attributes
of the organism. Gene therapy, in
which DNA within cells in an
organism is altered to treat or cure
a disease, is one of the most
promising areas of biotechnology
research. DNA fingerprinting, in
which two strands of DNA are
tested for matching, is another
powerful
application
of
biotechnology.
The application of modern
molecular biology into industrial
processes
can
reduce
its
degenerative
impact
to
environment. Information obtained
from
numerous
studies
and
experiments can be used in
manufacturing of improved and
eco-friendly products.

environment can be lessened, or if

possible treated, through the
assistance
of
biotechnology.
Environmental biotechnology can
more efficiently clean up many
wastes
than
conventional
methods. Aside from that, it can
greatly reduce our dependence on
methods for land-based disposal.
Biotechnology gives ways to a
variety of possible and effective
ways of disposing chemicals or
pollutants in the environment,
especially in this time of the
century where in there is a huge
leap on the advent of science and
technology.
As biotechnology has become
widely
used,
questions
and
concerns have also been raised.
One area might include the safety
of genetically engineered food.
Risk acquired through this has
been systematically evaluated by
different sectors of both public and
private institutions to ensure the
safety upon commercialization of
the said products. Overall, modern
biotechnology can have a dramatic
effect on the world economy and
society.

Biotechnology
has
helped improve the quality of
people's
lives.
It
varies
in
application and complexity, but
nevertheless, it has the potential
to change our society.
The
fundamental
goal
of
biotechnology is to meet the needs
and
demands
of
people.
Psychology, on the other hand,
aims to describe, explain, predict
and control human behavior. Both
sciences provide significant role in
all aspects of our lives.
One of the most well known
issue in psychology is the natureversus-nurture.
Psychologists
nowadays believe that both factors
are crucial in determining why
people behave as they do. Genetic
engineering, one of the many
methods of biotechnology, focuses
on the nature aspect through the
modification and alteration of
human genome.
It is known that genes

provides the blueprint of life. Biotechnologists and psychologists

may work together to gather
information,
conduct
rigorous
studies and experiments that
might caused a great leap of
advancement,
not
only
for
humans, but to the world as a
whole.
Both
biotechnology
and
psychology aims exceed human
needs and wants. Though they
have different approach, different
ways and methods; they both
strive to improve the quality of
peoples lives.
