RESEARCH PROPOSAL
INTRODUCTION AND ASSUMPTIONS

Saksham Bharti is an NGO which has been engaged in various activities for the welfare

of village community.
It has done a sanitation intervention in a Rajkot village of Rajouri Garden, New Delhi.
The feedback for intervention would be received on how people have perceived the

improvement in village.
The sample size would be around 50 in total. People with age group of 20-40 years,
especially female would be targeted as they would easily understand the improvement
made and would be more flexible in time to provide the information.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
What are the individual experiences and perceptions gained after the sanitation intervention has
been done in the Rajkot village?
OBJECTIVES
1. To identify perceptions raised by study, participants in relation to the sustainability of
water, sanitation and hygiene education and provide a foundation for further exploration
of community issues and priorities.
2. To explore individual experiences and insights related to Rajkot village sanitation
intervention activities undertaken by Saksham Bharti in selected communities of New
Delhi.
HYPOTHESIS

Sanitation intervention has been proven an advantage for the village people in terms of

improvement of drainage system, waste disposal, community toilets etc.


People are satisfied with sanitation intervention in terms of waste disposal system,

drainage system and community toilets.


Sanitation intervention has led in increased level of awareness among people about the
resources present in their village community.

Sanitation intervention has been done carefully keeping in mind the needs of the village

people.
Sanitation intervention has made village peoples life healthy and hygienic.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
1. Sanitation intervention can be defined as improvement done on waste disposal system,
community toilets and drainage.
2. Waste disposal system can be defined as in terms of no. of waste bins availability,
frequency of waste generation by each household, defecation disposal, availability of
garbage tank in village and their numbers, recycling of waste and waste prevention.
3. Community toilets are defined as no. of availability of toilets in village, cleanliness of
toilets and the no. of sweepers available for cleaning them, availability of water for
maintaining and cleaning them, availability of dustbins in toilets, average distance from
the house, and location of toilets.
4. Drainage system improvement is made keeping in mind if there is open, closed or
blocked drainage in colony, water collection sites, storm water disposal and recycling of
water.
5. Perception of people is studied in terms of usage status of water, toilets, cleaning and
washing area, improvement in peoples health and hygiene after the intervention and need
based fulfillment.
SAMPLING PLAN AND SIZE
The perception of people will be measured during the mid day or in the evening as that would be
the best time to record. It is so because the children, in morning time, go to school and that will
be the best suited time to collect the necessary information and in the evening all the ladies
collect together for informal meetings.
DATA COLLECTION
Primary Data: In order to gather the necessary data and also provide profound insight into
customer's perception after the sanitation intervention, the researcher considered interviews to be
the most suitable way. The interview method was chosen for present study reason being permit
face to face contact with respondents, to obtain new insights, yield richest data, flexibility to the
interviewer in administering interview to particular individual, help in clarification of questions
and cognitive aspects of the response.

To collect data from the interviewee's author proposed to use semi-structured interview guide as
very fact that interview questions were expected to vary due to act that the cases had different
strategies. Interview will be noted down by the researcher by taking extensive notes and also
simultaneously recorded.
SECONDARY DATA COLLECTION
Secondary data was collected from different website, telephonic conversation, case studies. The
aim of this data collection is to find out the related data regarding strategies adopted by the
Saksham Bharti for the betterment of village communities.
