My newer book information page at Qi Men Dun Jia
Preparing for Renewal
It has been passed more than ten years since I wrote this page. When I opened here, there are very few pages of Qi
Men Dun Jia, and I could not find other sites of the same themes. It was difficult for western people to read
Chinese/Japanese Kanji(
Hanzi) text in browser. Therefore, I must have made the pages with Hanzi image. But
today, I can find a lot of Forums, Group or Organizations, Blogs, Books, Softwares and other many kinds of resources.
And Unicode allows me Hanzi an English text page without Hanzi images. I made up my mind to re-new this page
with some of these new materials, espetially new Chinese books introduced below. And, one more new thing is, as
written in above, I joined Five-arts Forum, Fivearts.net. This time, I'M NOT ALONE. This is really great thing for me.
I can share and exchange many information there.
Qi Men Dun Jia(or Qimendunjia) is one of the most powerful oracles, to know both good luck and bad luck
in aspects of time and space(direction). Qi means mysterious or strange in usual, but in Takeda theory here, it means
valuable or holy. Men means a gate, and Dun means hidden or escaped(to make hidden), and Jia is the first one of
ten stems, which is considered as the most sacred in this method.
In Dun Jia(or Dunjia) theory, we use a kind of direction chart called Pan, which is drawed as a square divided into
nine blocks( 3 x 3. eight directions and centre ). In each directional block, one of the eight gates is positioned. We put
away Jia(because of its holiness) and use other nine stems to put them into Dun Jia Pan chart at first, and after
several process of making, Jia comes into the Pan chart from one of the eight gates. And that's why this method is
called Qi Men Dun Jia.
I have read about at least three kinds of Dunjia in Japan. So called Sangen, Tohru, and Takeda. Moreover, I've seen
more several kinds of Dunjia, of which groups were not clear to me. And perhaps, there might be other kinds of
Dunjia I have never known.
This is one of the most typical characteristics of Dunjia. In ancient age, those who won using Dunjia tried to keep it as
top-secret, and suppressed Dunjia-masters to prevent from Dunjia-secret leaking to the enemies of the governors.
Many Dunjia-masters were arrested, but they'd never made the secret of Dunjia clear. Instead, they made up
counterfeit methods as 'Dunjia'. That's why we can find many kinds of Dunjia, and lost which is the original one today.
As I cannot write about whole kinds of Dunjia, I'll write some articles based on 'Takeda theory', which I think the most
reasonable one of today's Japanese Dunjia.
1.Basic Background
1.1 Heavenly Chi and Earthly Chi
We need to have some knowledges to learn Qi men dun jia. The most basic one is Chinese calendar for Dun Jia.
Because Dun Jia is the scholarship for studying controls of heavnly Chi and Earthly Chi by time factor, using Chinese
calendar. Both of Chi are symbolysed by Ten Stems. But meaning of them are different. Celestial ones are related to
moving sun, and others are related to the earth, especially directions. This means, that we use the same symbols to
indicate status of cosmic energy in different aspects. I suppose it is easy to be confused, but I believe, we should
distinguish heavenly stems and earthly stems clearly. They are not the same.
We should remember how streams influence each other when we use Dun Jia. And one more, this is a factor of time. In
the Dun Jia theory, it is important to watch both time( or seasonal) factor and space( or directional ) factor.
1.4 San Qi

Liu Yi( six symbolic flags of the king and feudal lords. ) is a stem which is be rearranged by hidden Jia.

Ju means situation. In Dunjia method, there are cyclic numbers on year, month, day and hour of Dunjia calendar.
For example, Ju number of the year 1998 is 2. 1995 is 5. The first situation number is on the year BC 117, which
is the starting year of stem and branch as
Ju Shu ( situation numbers ) consists of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. It goes descendantly under Yin Dun period, and
ascendantly under Yang Dun period like following:
= 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
= 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

2.'Pan' chart
First of all, we must cast several kinds of charts to divinate by Dun Jia. There are two main kinds of diagrams called
'Pan', 'Li Xiang Pan' and 'Zuo Shan Pan'.

agent of Gen-Trigram, and also represents Choubranch and Yin-branch. Generally speaking, This
gate is useful for any purpose, especially for
health.
To be injured or scratch something easily by
mistake, because of hurry to the work or
remainder of yesterday's tiredness. It is an agent
of Zhen-Trigram, and also represents MaoBranch. This gate is useful for hospitalization
with operations.
Start working of the day, but not smoothly done
for complete. It is an agent of Sun-Trigram, and
also represents Chen-branch and Si-branch. This
gate is not useful for any purposes. This gate is
only useful for running away, or arresting
robbers.

Eight Gates
( home position )
We select a suitable gate for purpose. But it is not usual to use Yearly or Monthly gates. Usually
we use Daily and Hourly gates to make our fortune better. Of course, it is more advisable to use
good luck directions on both Daily-Pan and Hourly-Pan.
However, there are some important rules of eight gates positioning, which influences the result of
using gates. I'll write about it in the section 5.

Well kown to Japanese people as the system of 'Kyuu Sei' or 'Kyuu Sei Kigaku'.
We need Chinese Calendar to cast Pan charts. First of all, Celestial stems and Earthly stems should be arranged on
the chart. Next, Ba Men, Ba Shen, Jiu Xing and Jiu Gong process might be followed.
4.1. Di Kan
There are two patterns to position 9 stems like following:
Under Yin
Dun , three San Qi come at first ascendantly, and six Liu Yi follow next descendantly.
Under Yang Dun , six Liu Yi come at first ascendantly, and three San Qi follow next descendantly,
We use situation numbers to arrange nine stems, which made up special situations by making formations.
At first, the position of Wu stem is the home position of the same number Gong with situation number. For example,
if current situation number is 6, the position of the first stem( it should be Yi under Yin Dun, and Wu under Yang
Dun ) is at northwest, which is the home position of Liu-Bai( six-white ) Gong.

4.2. Tian Kan
Celestial stems or Tian Kan are determined by moving of every Earthly stem or Di Kan. Each Celestial stem moves to
5 times next from its current position. And, the central earthly stem is determined at last.

current pattern, is positioned on east. Hidden Jia is

4.3. Ba Men
The method of Ba Men Positioning is like following:
