Lesson Plan Integrating Technology & Pedagogy
Lesson: Inequalities Subject: Math
Grade: 2
Name: Elisa McIntosh

Date: 11/9/15

Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.A.4

Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones
digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Lesson Objective(s): Students will be able to compare two three digit numbers using the
symbols: >, =, <.
Ice Breaker:
A. Teacher will provide an ice breaker to warm up our brains before we do math!
B. Technology: https://www.gonoodle.com/channels/brainercise-with-mr-catman/fistand-flat?source=category **Coordination activity
Introduce the Learning Activity:
A. Teacher will introduce the objective of the lesson and introduce the chomp strategy
to solve inequalities. The chomp strategy is the smaller number/sum of the two
numbers/equations will always want to eat the bigger number/sum. Teacher will ask
students to create their animal/object on paint.
B. Technology: Paint. Students will use Paint to create their animal/object that will eat
the larger of the numbers. Students will provide numbers to compare and write them
in paint.
Provide Information:
A. Teacher will write the objective on the board at the beginning of the lesson.
B. Teacher will explain that comparing two different numbers or sums are called
inequalities. Teacher will write inequalities on the board.
C. Technology: Teacher will provide a model of her animal for the chomp method.
Teacher will ask students to give problems to solve as a class to make sure everyone
is ready to move on to the practice.

Provide Practice:
A. Teacher will provide websites for practice problems in students emails. The students
will practice solving inequalities using addition and subtraction. The students will
practice comparing three digit numbers.
B. Technology:
Solving addition/subtraction inequalities

Provide Knowledge of Results:

A. Teacher will provide verbal feedback to students as she walks around during the
practice problems.
B. Technology: Students will receive written feedback on the interactive sites they are
doing the practice problems on. If they get an answer correct they will get a smiley
face. If they get an answer incorrect they will get a X.
Method of Assessment:
A. Teacher will give formative assessments throughout the lesson (after introduction,
practice, and game). Teacher will ask students to give a thumbs up for they know the
material very well, thumbs down for they do not feel comfortable with the material at
all, and a sideways thumb for they feel slightly comfortable with the material, but
would like some more practice.
B. Teacher will record the students grades they receive on their practice problems.
C. Technology: Students will receive grades immediately following the completion of
the practice problem sets.
Review the Activity:
A. Closure: Exit Slip.
Insert the correct symbol (<, =, >) to solve the inequality (200-25) (150 + 5).
Favorite Activity. Least favorite activity.
B. Technology: Students will email the exit slip to the teacher at the end of the lesson, or
for homework if there is not enough time left in the lesson.
