Ladies and gentlemen, honorable adjudicators and fellow students of this great

university, Good Day!

We, the Affirmative side, strongly posit, no to same sex marriage!Marriage has always been a
covenant between a man and a woman which by its nature were ordered toward the procreation
of children and the unity and well being of the spouses. Thus, same sex marriage is beyond
human comprehension, inconceivable and unacceptable for it is against moral decency and
secularly offensive.
I strongly believe that marriage of the same sex should not be allowed in the
Philippines under the following contentions: (WE DO NOT USE SINGULAR PERSONAL
PRONOUNS IN DEBATE! MAKE THAT We)
AGAIN, PLEASE MAKE AN ENUMERATION OF YOUR ARGUMENTS FIRST. LIKE THE ONE
I PUT IN YOUR AFFIRMATIVE SPEECH.)
First,Allowing same sex marriage in the Philippines is nothing but an attempt of making
morally wrong action into a civil right. The civil codehad been enforced for more than half a
century while the family code becomes effective in not less than three decades already, and
these laws were passed in co-existence with the increasing growth of the third sex individuals. It
is ought to be known that there was no proposal to amend these laws but lgbts endeavor to
push same sex marriage in the country is tantamount to circumvention of these codeswhich has
been our countrys basis of its morals and traditions from the very beginning. This precept is
irreconcilable with Article 1 in relation to Art 2 of the Family code: which defines marriage as a
permanent union between a man and a woman. The law is very clear. It does not mention a gay
or a lesbian.Amendment by ratification to suit the demand of a certain class only is highly
improbable when matters of greater national interest such as educational reform, health
programs, infrastructure to ease the traffic congestion and other important government projects
require more funding and attention than this proposal. Hence, same sex marriage is definitely
not practicable.
Second; SWS surveys may show numerous constructive responses on same sex
marriage but this does not mean that it reflects the collective thought of the people who will
consider making a law favoring it.Approval of marriage between persons of same sex will only
encourage more homosexual activities and promote their lifestyle in the community that one day
those which are deemed forbidden maybe permitted in the society. Legal recognition of the
domestic relationship of the same sex is an obscure mandate tantamount to degrading our
basic moral values and the sacredness of marriagewhich should otherwise require serious
consideration and paramount importanceas provided in Section 2, Art 15 of the Constitution
which provides that marriage as an inviolable social institution is the foundation of a family
which the state protects. If homosexual marriage is widely accepted as the present step in
sexual freedom, what logical arguments can be used to stop the next steps of incest,
pedophilia, bestiality, and other forms of unnatural behavior? Are we boundto accept these?
Filipinos are not prepared nor are we ready to embrace union of the same sex because it would
require immense alterations on the basic educational curriculum in school instructions, if only to
educate people, by making it appear to the young minds that lgbts relationship is the ordinary
norm rather than it being odd, and this entails critical slash on the national budget where other
areas of greater concern are left behind. By that very fact, this proposal should be outrightly
denied for not being beneficial.
Third; It denies biological, physiological, and psychological differences between men and
women which is the very essence of marriage. Yes, adoption maybe resorted to but not to the

best interest of a child who will always be deprived of either his natural mother or father aside
from the confusion it would bring on childs orientation of who among his parents is the real
mother and or the real father. Unfortunate for those who will be trapped by this situation.
Fourth, the argument that the Philippines should follow the ruling of some powerful
countries of the world such as United States and Canada which has legalized same sex
marriageis similar to a collateral attack by Filipinos on their very own deep rooted traditional
norms and values. We may have a diplomatic relationship with those powerful countries but
people's sentiments should never be forsaken by keeping up with the global trends. The
Filipinosvalue the family, people grew up in a morally upright environment where we adhere to
noble ideals and aspirations as well as the teachings of our ancestors and to embrace this
proposal is not only an insult but also a disrespect on them.
Lastly, it denies obedience on the divine law. Why make a sacred covenant
between a man and a woman be intruded by homosexuals desire of making their
domestic relationships with their partners legally recognized? Isnt this not offensive on
the Divine law that man and woman are created purposely for the perpetuation of human
race? May I reiterate, only by a man and a woman and no one else. What God forbids we
should not allow. (THIS IS DANGEROUS. THIS IS A PERSONAL COMMENT AND NOT A
COMMENT BASED ON RELIABLE FACTS. IF YOU CANNOT SUPPORT THIS WITH LEGAL
BASIS OTHER THAN YOUR OWN BELIEFS, THEN I STRONGLY ADVISE THAT THIS BE
STRICKEN OUT. THE AFFIRMATIVE SIDE CAN MAKE YOU PAY FOR THIS ARGUMENT.)
With this, your Honors, ladies and gentlemen, let us all protect the holiness of ones
family, let us defend the right of a father and a mother, let it not be erased by the concept of
same sex marriage. Say no. Good day.
