11. (a)
In the epicyclic gear train shown in fig, the arm A is fixed to the
(10)
shaft S and wheel B is free to rotate on S and F is separately
driven.A receives 7.5 KW at 200 rpm and F is driven in the
same direction at 100 rpm. Determine the speed of B and the
torque on the shaft.

(OR)
An epicyclic gear train consists of a sun wheel S, a stationary
internal gear E and three identical planet wheels P carried on a
star shaped planet carrier C. The minimum number of teeth on
any wheel is 16.The size of different toothed wheels are such
that the planet carrier C rotates 1/5 th of the speed of the sun
wheel S. The driving torque on the sun wheel is 100 Nm.
Determine (i) No of teeth on different wheels of the train
(ii) Torque necessary to keep the internal gear stationary

12.

(a)

In an epicyclic gear train shown in fig, the pinion A has 15 teeth

and is rigidly fixed to the motor shaft. The Wheel B has 20 teeth

and gears with A externally and also with a fixed annular wheel
E. Pinion C has 15 teeth and is integral with wheel B.The wheel
B & C rotate together on a pin carried by an arm. The arm
rotates about the shaft on which A is fixed. Find the speed of the
machine shaft if motor rotates at 1000 rpm. Also find the torque
exerted on the machine shaft, If the motor develops a torque of
100 N-m.

Two 20 involute spur gears mesh externally and give a velocity
ratio of 4. Module is 3 mm and the addendum is equal to 1.2
module. If the pinion rotates at 150 rpm determine (a) the
minimum number of teeth on each wheel to avoid interference
(b) the no of pairs of teeth in contact

(10)

A pinion having 30 teeth drives a gear having 80 teeth. The

profile of the gear is involute with 20 pressure angle 12 mm
module and 10 mm addendum. The length of path of contact, arc
of contact and contact ratio.
(OR)
Two involute gears of 20 pressure angle are in mesh. The
number of teeth on pinion 20 and the gear ratio is 2.If the pitch
expressed in module is 5 mm and the pitch line speed is 1.2 m/s
assuming addendum as standard and equal to one module.
Find 1.The Angle turned by pinion when one pair of teeth in
mesh. 2.The maximum velocity of sliding
