REFLECTION WEEK No.1


NAME: MADBY ALEXANDRA POLO VARGAS DATE: 7/09/2015
In my first day at the school everything was well,
there were almost sixteen students in the fifth
grade and twenty six in fourth grade, they told me
their names and most of them pay attention to all
the class and enjoyed the activities, when they did
not understand something they ask me and I explain
them again. Everything was very nice.
I looked that students have a good ability to
understand English but, the teacher doesnt teach
them enough about it because, they did not know how
to make sentences with verb To Be, they wrote most
of the things in Spanish and made sentences in
Spanish, they did not know make sentences in English
so that, I told teacher but, the teacher wanted that
I teach them the present simple, I think they have
to use very well the verb To Be and then teach them
the Present Simple But, I was too hard make the
teacher understood.
In the fourth grade the environment was different
they were noisier than fifth grade and we could not
finish the activities because, they were slow to
write but also it was the same thing, they did not
write sentences too.

I hope that through the time students can learn at


least how to write a very good sentence it does not
matter in what tense and make them like English.

The school where I am doing my practices has a lot
of problems even though, students are participative
active and they are interest to learn English but,
the environment where they have to learn it not the
best one, the organization of the school is bad,
they do not have the necessary resources to learn
English.
Now, the teachers who teach them English do not
English they are teachers from others subjects but
they have to teach English. If I try to suggest
something it is very difficult because they say that
they cannot change their syllabus but, what they are
teaching is not enough to students learn English in
a real context.
I am not a perfect person but, I will try to do my
best during this practices and I hope could learn a
lot of things from the students and the others
teachers because, It make me grow up every ingle
day.

NAME: MADBY ALEXANDRA POLO VARGAS DATE: 14/09/2015
In the second class I continued with the next topic
according to teachers syllabus. The topic was
connectors, teacher had six connectors and she
wanted that I taught them those connectors. I
decided to make an easy recipe with the students in
order to teach them those connectors.
While we were collecting the ingredients just two
students did not bring their ingredients but, the
rest of the students brought them. Students helped
to wash the fruits and peel some fruits and I was
cutting most of them. We just had time to develop
this activity because; we just have one hour and the
next class we continued with the activities and
finally the evaluation.
In the fourth grade as usual everything was
different because they are more students and most of
them are very active and all the time they are
talking and they do not pay enough attention and
this
is
a
difficult
problem
because

explaining the activity or the topic they are


talking and they do not understand I what I say and
then they want that I explain again but it make me
waste time to develop all the class but finally, we
could develop the activity and play a game with a
dice in order to teach them the connectors and try
to make them write sentences using those connectors.

In the third class the first thing that I did
checking the homework and most of the students
it but, there was a girl that didnt make
homework and asked to her why didnt she make
homework? and she told me that she didnt have
English notebook then I told that she should
whatever notebook and write what I teach them
class thats why she have never participated.

Continuing with the class I taught them the new


topic that was questions and negatives using present
simple. I played a short video in order to make them
answer some questions from the video and teach them
how to make those questions that they already
answered.
As evaluation they should organize some sentences
that I gave them in a paper. At the beginning they

were lost but I explained them the first one and


they could continue resolving the others.
In the fourth grade I was checking the homework but
a few students did it, the rest of students told me
that they have forgotten. For that reason, it was
very difficult lead the new topic because they
forgot use the pronouns to make sentences and I had
to remind them in order to they can develop the
activity.

NAME: MADBY ALEXANDRA POLO VARGAS
In the fourth class gave to the students the
classwork already checked and I introduced the new
topic that was verb to be. For this class students
should draw their hand and write in each finger the
family members in order to make sentences using verb
to be with each one.
In this class students were singing the song headshoulders-knees and toes for the warming up but
most of them could not follow the sequence but they
enjoyed this warm up. While they were drawing their
hand most some students told me that they could not
draw so that I helped them.

Then, I draw my family tree on the broad and


students should use this in order to make their own
family tree for the next class. After, I was going
to give to the students a word search about the
family member but I forgot carried the worksheets so
that I had to use the Plan b that was make groups of
four people and I gave them a pieces of paper in
which they should organize the sentence in the right
order.
While I was explaining the topic some students were
making noise and my teacher was observing my class
and it was not very good because I got afraid and
students did not pay attention to the class. Ending
the class I made the evaluation to the students but
most of them did not know how to do it because they
did not pay attention.

In the Fifth class there was a good environment
because all the students participated in the warm up
and they enjoyed it. It was organize a puzzle in
groups of four people. There were some groups who
finished first and other who took more time to
finish.
Then I give to the students a worksheet in which
they should match the word with the picture in order
to introduce the topic that was Adjectives. After

that students should pick up a piece of paper from a


bag that I had and they should find the opposite
adjective. Students took a long time to find the
pairs and not all found the pair because some
students did not know what does the adjective mean.
In the fourth grade was very complicated develop the
activity to find the opposite adjective because most
of the student did not have dictionary to find the
meaning and it caused a bad behavior on the
students, but then we changed the activity for a
word search and all the students were concentrated
on their activity. It made though that I cannot use
these kind of activity on the fourth grade because
there are quite a few students and most of them are
very noise and I have to give them several
activities because they finish very quick.

In the sixth Class I could not have class with the
fourth grade because it had been holiday. I teach to
the fifth grade the new topic that was Past Simple,
I used a funny activity to introduce the class,
students should pick up a verb from a bag and I
wrote on the broad (d- ed- ied) then students should
put the verb in the correct column, the rule was If
students had a verb ends in (e) they should put the

verb below the column (d) and the students who had
he verb ends in a consonant
they should put it
below the column (ed) and who had the verb ends in
(y) should put it below (ied)in this way I told them
That those ends classify the verbs in past.
After, I should give to the students a worksheet in
which they should match the verb with the past tense
but, There was a problem because there was not
energy to print the activity so that I used the plan
B from the lesson plan it was a word search in which
students should find the verb in past tense and
write below the infinity form.
This day was my teacher observing again my class I
dont know if it was a good class to my teacher but
I hope it. Also, this day I was recording the video
to present but, it was raining and it was too hard
could listen very well the class.
