CHAPTER-01
INTRODUCTION TO TTSL
The Tata Group is unique in more ways than one. Established by Jamsetji Tata in
the second half of the 19th century, the Group has grown into one of the biggest
and most respected business organizations, thinks in no small part to its
entrepreneurial vision, its commitment to ideals that put people before profits
and its fortitude in the face of adversity. TATA is a brand name and it is playing a
key role in the growth of the industry. In the beginning it was only in the vehicle
segment like: - TATA Trucks, TATA motors etc. But as the time changed it also
came into Teleservices with the name of TATA Indicom
especially in
mobile
segment. TATA came into the Teleservices segment in 1995. It was the first to
launch CDMA mobile service in India. Tata Teleservices Limited has also become
the first Indian private telecom operator to launch 3G services in India under the
brand name Tata DOCOMO, with its recent launch in all the nine telecom Circles
where it bagged the 3G license.
Tata Indicom redefined the existing prepaid mobile market in India by unveiling
their offering - Tata Indicom 'Non Stop Mobile' which allows customers to receive
free incoming calls. Tata Teleservices today has India's largest branded telecom
retail chain and is the first service provider in the country to offer an online
channel http://www.i-choose.in to offer post paid mobile connections in the
country. Tata Teleservices has a strong workforce of 6000. In addition, TTSL has
created more than 20,000 jobs, which will include 10,000 indirect jobs through
outsourcing of its manpower needs.

CHAPTER-02
INTRODUCTION TO JOB SATISFACTION OF EMPLOYEES
Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from
the appraisal of one's job; an affective reaction to one's job; and an attitude
towards one's job.
TTSL, Shimla
12
CO-WORKERS:
Various studies had traced this factor as a factor of intermediate importance.
One's associates with others had frequently been motivated as a factor in job
satisfaction. Certainly, this seems reasonable because people like to be near
their friends. The employees derive satisfaction when the co-workers are helpful,
friendly and co-operative.
PAY:
Studies also show that most of the employees felt satisfied when they are paid
more adequately to the work performed by them. The relative important of pay
would probably changing factor in job satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
AGE:
Age has also been found to have a direct relationship to level job of satisfaction
of employees. In some groups job satisfaction is higher with increasing age, in
other groups job satisfaction is lower and in other there is no difference at all.
TTSL, Shimla
13
MARITAL STATUS:
Marital status has an important role in deciding the job satisfaction. Most of the
studies have revealed that the married person finds dissatisfaction in his job
than his unmarried counterpart. The reasons stated to be are that wages were
insufficient due to increased cost of living, educations to children etc.
WORKING CONDITION:
The result of various studies shows that working condition is an important factor.
Good working atmosphere and pleasant surroundings help increasing the
production of industry. Working conditions are more important to women
workers than men workers.
Superior-Subordinate Communication
Superior-subordinate communication is an important influence on job satisfaction
in the workplace. The way in which subordinate's perceive a supervisor's behavior
can positively or negatively influence job satisfaction. The relationship of a
subordinate with their supervisor is a very important aspect in the workplace.
