Course Title

: Composite Materials and Design

Instructor

: SACHIN WAIGAONKAR

I. Course Description
Introduction of composite materials; classification; theory of reinforcement, properties of
fibre reinforcement and production technology of composites Plastics and their
processing technology, Mathematical modeling and computational techniques for the
mechanics of composites and plastics. Applications of plastics and composite in
automotive and aerospace structures.
II. Scope and Objective
Composite Materials have gained considerable importance over the years due to their
outstanding mechanical properties, less weight, flexibility, ease of fabrication, corrosion
resistance, impact strength and fatigue resistance. They find extensive applications in
automobile and aerospace industries. Plastics have also been extensively used for
domestic as well as engineering application mainly due to their easy processibility and
good mechanical properties and competitive cost. This course deals with the structure
property processibility studies of the composite and plastics materials and their
applications.
