SYNOPSIS
This course imparts the fundamental knowledge needed for bioprocess engineering in
terms of chemical aspects of life from molecular point of view. The course provides
the necessary knowledge of protein structure and function, metabolic pathways and
molecular biology. It also includes recent advances in biotechnology, and
technological implications of biochemical engineering in life sciences.

3.0

OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Explain the basic structure of biomolecules in relation to their functional groups.
2. Explain various metabolic pathways including glycolysis and TCA cycle and
explain how they are regulated in the cells.
3. Understand the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for
engineering practice.
