COMMONMISCONCEPTIONS
1.Theinputattenuatorintheupstreamopticaltransmittermustbechosenproperlytoavoidsevereclipping.
Asitturnsout,thisattenuatordoesnotaffecttheperformanceoftheopticallinkatall.Asshownpreviously,this

2.Theonlywaytoimprovethecarriertoingressratioistorollatrucktoeverydrop.
Theeasiestwaytoimprovethecarriertoingressratioistomakecertainthatallupstreamtransmittersinmodemsand
settopboxesareoperatingintheupperendoftheirtransmitpowerranges.Thisisaccomplishedbyproperselectionof
theopticaltransmitterinputpad,andbyproperdesignandconditioningoftheRFplant.Thecarriertoingressratioisset

carriertoingressratioatthepointwheremostingressgetsintotheplant(i.e.,atthesubscriberdrop).
3.Changingtheattenuatorsatthereverseopticalreceiverinthehuborheadendwillchangethereversecarrierlevelat
theCMTSinput.
Asdescribedearlier,theseattenuators(eithertheopticalinputattenuatorortheRFoutputattenuator)affectthe
