LESSON PLAN
Name of the teacher : VINI V.T
Class : IX
Name of the subject : Biology
Duration : 45
Name of the unit

: Circulatory Pathways

Name of the topic

: The Blood

CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Develop factual, conceptual, procedual, metacognitive knowledge and process skill and
attitude on the blood through lecture method,
group discussion and evaluation by
questioning in groups works and group
discussion.

CONTENT ANALYSIS
NEW TERMS : Blood, Immunity, Body
temperature, RBC, WBC, Platelets.

FACTS :
Blood is a fluid connective tissue.
In most animals blood is real in colour.
Heamoglobin gives red colour to the
blood.
Blood flows continuously through the
body.
Blood helps to regulate the body
temperature.
Blood has defence mechanism.
The major constituents of the blood are
RBC,WBC and Platelets.

CONCEPT
Blood is a fluid concective tissue with
complex structure.

INTRODUCTION
Yes
1.
Do you know how the nutrients
reach the tissues?
2.
Did Blood have a suitable
structure with regard to its
function?
Teacher enters to the topic by
asking these questions.
Blood

(B.B)

ACTIVITY NO : 1
Teacher divides the students into
different groups. And teacher sing a
song for students. After that teacher
ask questions to students.

Yes

Heres my story
Circulatory!!!
Cardio vascular system,
Consist of veins and
For blood flow,
You cant miss em....
Suerly, I am circulatory,
Pumping round and round.
Beating heart and blood vessels,
I suerly will astound
Brought by blue veins ,
To the heart....

To lungs is where bloods pumped.....

Oxygenated by those lungs,
This system cant be trumped!

Blood from lungs,

Returns to heart
And then to artery,
Which carry blood to every organ
In every part a me
Suerly , I am circulatory,
Pumping round and round
With my heart,
And blood vessels,
I suerly will astound....

Blood

1.

What is the function of blood?

2.
Who maintain our body
temperature?
3.

What is the colour of blood?

Red

Blood plays an important role in

sustaining life.
There is nothing which can
replace blood.
The immunity also given by
blood.
Blood maintains our body
temperature.
Blood plays circulatory functions.

small groups and shows blood smear
preperation experiment to explain
about blood cells. After experiment
teacher ask questions.

ACTIVITY N0 : 2

Take a drop of blood in the test

tube, add stain to it. Add chemicals
which prevent clotting and shake the
test tube well. Keep the test tube at

rest for a while and observe. You can

see the components of the blood
seperately. Students understoos about
this components of blood. Teacher
shows another experiment to explain
about blood cells.

Questions:
1.
Through observation which all
cells you were able to see?
2.

Did RBC is numerous than WBC?

3.
Which blood cells contain
nucleus on your observation?
By showing the demonstration
students got a clear idea about blood
cells and its structure. They came to
know that blood has complex structure.

Yes
WBC

Blood plays an important role in

sustaining life.
There is nothing which can replace
blood.
We can see components of blood
seperately by shaking the blood in
the test tube by adding
anticoagulant.
We can observe red blood cells by
preparing blood smear.
WBC is large in number than RBC.
.

REVIEW
1. What is the function of blood?
2. Who maintain our body temperature?
3. Explain smear preperation experiment?
4. How will you identify RBC and WBC from
smear preperation?

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
Record the smear preperation
experiment on your science diary.
