November 2015 Newsletter

Letter From the President:
Shortly after becoming a military spouse I heard the term Air Force
Family. A senior spouse told me that during an assignment its not
uncommon to become so close to the families we serve with that they become
like our own extended family. This concept didnt resonate with me, and it
almost felt like a betrayal to the family I had grown to love, admire, and count
on for support. I come from a very close, tight knit family, and I couldnt
imagine a group of strangers feeling like my own familyuntil it happened.
We received orders that would take us thirteen hours away from our
home, family, and friends we were so very close to. During that assignment I
learned that Air Force spouses look out for each other in a way that is hard to
describe to a non-service member that doesnt face the same trials and
tribulations that a service family does. They are bonded together, share
common sacrifices that unite one another, and support one another in a very
special way.
This support comes in many forms, to include cooking meals for one
other when needed, hosting baby showers for brand new friends, helping each
other hang picturesthen helping take the same pictures down to pack them
back up once again. We watch each others kids, run errands when someone
is sick, and open up our homes to each other to celebrate a holiday. We laugh
and cry together, and we celebrate together. We lean on each other more with
the absence of our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers not living close by.
We do indeed become a family.
As Thanksgiving nears and I reflect on my own family and all that I am
grateful for, I am reminded of how indebted I am to my Air Force Family.
Throughout the years Ive made so many wonderful friends and have had the
opportunity to know so many remarkable women and families. I am so
grateful to serve with you all and proud to call you my family.
Much Love,
Carri
