GENERAL INTRODUCTION

As a part of our curriculum activity of our BBA course we


are required to undergo summer implant training & study
how the organization carry on their present competitive
business scenario.
Since the AC motors & DC motors manufacturing is
unique, I have selected Kirloskar Electronical CO.Ltd. Located
in hubli for my training and study. It is one of the pioneer
firms in the manufacturing of electrical units.

DATA COLLECTION METHOD;


Using both primary and secondary source of data to collect
the information

PRIMARY DATA
Primary data is collected through personal interview with
the managers and workers. The information relating to the
production process and labors related related issues are
collected through personal observation

SECONDARY DATA
Secondary data is collected from the accounting records of
the last two years and the implemented steps taken for the
public by the company through media.

LIMITATIONS

I faced the following difficulties during the preparation of


this project report.

• The managers could not provide the certain information


as it is really confidential.
• The information collected was limited to the extent of
information provided by the manager of each
department.
• I have collected the detail information within one month
so I haven’t collect information in depth.
• In many cases secondary data is not available.
• Answers given were too precise which faced us to have
brief report.
• Time constrained us to prepare a précised report.

LITERATURE ON HRM

Im simple words, HRM is an organized learning experienced


aimed at matching the organizational need for human
resource with the individual need for career growth and
development it is a continuous process developing the
competencies, motivation, dynamisn and effectiveness of
employees. It is based on the brief there is no end of the
developmemt of an individual and learning continuous
through out life

Need and significance of HRM


1. HRM improves the capabilities of people by making
them better aware of the skills required for job
performance and by improving clarity about
performance. It strengthens executive skills.
2. HRM improves communication systems in an
organization, every member better understand s the
expectations of other members from his role.
3. HRM helps an organization in procuring the right people
at right time and making their effective use.
4. HRM improves employee commitment to an
organization due to the greater opportunity in the
administration of the rewards. Contributions of the

Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective
employees and stimulating and encouraging them to apply
for jobs in an organization

Recruitment policy specifies the objectives of recruitment


and provides the frame work for the implementation of the
recruitment programme. Recruitment policies should be
based on the recognisation that it hard to find qualified
executives

Selection is the process of choosing the most suitable


persons out of the all applicants
Induction is the process of receiving and welcoming an
employee whe he first joins the company and giving him the

On simple terms training and development refer to the

A significant event in the history of Indian industry was


the rise of the KEC to a multibillion conglomerate the
founder o was Mr. Lakshman. Rao. Kirloskar strongly
believed a companmy progress was determined by the
integration of man and his intellect with the technology
growth of environment. A mybrid pioneering achievements
followed suit.

The first Kirloskar product the iron plough was an


innovation for ahead of its time a product designed wholly
with the customer in mind it ultimately become the
instrument wealth for the entire society.

Kirloskar’s working since India has got


independence that is when India was unable to fulfill their
requirements. Which has written in red letter of the India
history. The rapid growth of the group has commited to
innovative quality and continuing technology advancement
which is based on their highly human resource and vast
distributed network. The best use of the technical and
engineering brains have made the group achieve their
mission and objectives.

KEC was established in the year of 1946 at


banglore. KEC was first producer of A. C. motors in India.

HISTORY OF KIRLOSKAR ELECTRICAL COMPANY

The success story of Lakshman Rao often reffered to,


as the “ Ford of India” was not bed of roses . It all stared
with in iron plough, which was a symbol of survival early
agricultural India.The activities in the post second world war
period diversified ta air compressor, pneumatic tools and
tractors.
In 1910 under the generous patronage of the Raja
Aundh, Lakshman Rao planned his dream village-“Kirloskar-
wadi”.
KEC, which started in1946 at banglore under the
leadership of Dr. N. W. Gurjar, was natured inby Mr. Ravi
Kirloskar who believed that quality must be equated with the
self respected and personal pride.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT


(MMD)

INTRODUCTION
The department manages the raw materials required
for the production of motors, Alternators and Geared motors.
The central planning sends the list consisting of quality of
deferent raw materials required for the production for the
next month. This department then purchases the raw
material from outside and dispatches it to the production
department for the processing.

OBJECTIVES :
To prepare components and services for manufacturing
of A.C. motors, alternative and m.g.o. and materials required
by other functional divisions.

 To exercise purchase budget control based on

the material requirement.

 To prepare purchase order as for the procedure

INTRODUCTION :
Production department is the main department in any
manufacturing unit as all manufacturing activities are
undertaken by this department.
KEC has always tried to excel in what one knows the
best. In the process of progress, KEC has laid great

WORKING PROCESS :
The production dept of K.E.C. unit II is divided into six
different shops. These shops are inter-connected. The
central planning sets the programme and then the
production starts. In case of standard products some
specifications are mentioned, Iot numbers are given to each
product for identification.

The last stage is the dispatching of goods when all the


products are assembled & they assure the quality, they are
sent to painting & then to the dispatch section.

The concerned shops will receive their daily programme


as to what has to be done. Then the work is systematically
carried by all shops.

QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT

INTRODUCTION :
Quality is the fitness to end use. It is all pervasive. In
this modern & competitive world each & every company is
training hard to introduce quality & detect – free products.
K.E.C. is one such industry whose priority is not to be
number one in quantity but in quality and reliability.
KEC tries hard to see that the quality of a product is
ensured by the total investment of all workers. There are
very skilled & smart employees who actively take part in
quality improvement.

(M.E.D.)
INTRODUCTION :
The manufacturing engineering department & KEC unit
II undertake the designing of tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies on
planning & procurement of the capital equipment.

OBJECTIVES :
M.E.D. is responsible for capital equipment purchase,
process engineering and design of tooling, jigs and fixtures &
are activities using appropriate methods.

FUNCTIONS :
• Preparation of drawings of jigs, fixtures, dies, tooling,
storage devices.
• Revision or drawings with design changes.
• Co-ordination with production dept for finalizing the
manufacturing process.

• Finding the specifications, procurement &


commissioning of machines/ equipment for
manufacturing.

TOOLING AND PROCESS :


This section will address all the function related to
designing of jigs, fixtures, dies & processes for the
manufacturing activities besides identification of new
manufacturing processes.

COMPUTER DIVISION
INTRODUCTION :
Today is a world of computers. Most of companies are
now computer based so KEC unit II connected with LAN
(Local Area Network) all the accounts records are maintained
by the computer division.

There are five Pentium machines one scooped server


which can connect to 36 terminals. Computer division of KEC
unit II.

Helps in maintaining & updating files. It provides


facilities for periodic system audit taking corrective
measures & ensuring their implementation. Computer
department will also plan & procure necessary safety
guards.

division for performing services to all the computer &
accessories.

The processing facilities available in computer division areas

system reports.
• Computer hardware & software maintenance.

• Maintenance, modification, development of computer
software.
• Software revalidation – software are revalidated
annually as per the procedure defined in software
revalidation & the records are maintained.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

INTRODUCTION :
Every company needs finance for its survival. It is the
LIFE BLOOD for the existence of any company. Finance
department is concerned with planning & controlling of
company’s financial resources.
Audits such as cash audits, internal audits, cost audits
are done per month. There are sixteen banker of KEC.
Among them are bank of India, Hongkong bank, state bank
of India etc. Trade creditors of raw material such as copper
& steel is SAIL & HINDUSTAN coppers Ltd.

On an average KEC unit II paying Rs. 150 lacks as


excise duty per month 6% of the total turnover is for welfare
activities.

OBJECTIVES :
To see that the audit takes place one time & not violate
any orders coming from higher authorities.

FUNCTIONS :
• Cash & Bank balance.
• Costing is undertaken.
• Payment of Suppliers.
• Payroll activities consisting mainly of salary,
provident fund, ESI, income taxes.
• Sundry debtors.
• Major functions of finance department are excise
function & reconciliation of major accounts.

PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT
INTRODUCTION:
There are basically four factors of production i.e.
material, machinery, and money and man, materials are
handled by MMD and machinery by production, Money by
Finance & Human Resource (Man) is undertaken by
personnel department. Personnel department is concerned
with the people at work. This department takes each of the
workers right form the time they are recruited till their
retirement.

administrative functions of personnel, welfare of personnel,
training & development of personnel, security and safety.

OBJECTIVES :

FUNCTIONS :
• Labor welfare and canteen administration.
• All types of training programmers for employees held
by personnel department.
• ISO records and audits.
• Maintenance of all registers and files pertaining to
above job and responsibilities.
• Security and safety.
• Fire fighting equipments.

HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING :

A Comprehensive human resources development
programme is in operation in this unit. The development
starts from the selection of right personnel at all levels and
neutering them by various processes during their entire
period of association with KEC. The aim is to develop the
individuals to meet the present as well as the future needs

of the organization and integrate the individuals as well as


organization goals.
Hubli unit has a training center managed by personnel
division. It is charged with the responsibility of implementing
the HRD policy as a planning, faciliting & implementing
agency under the direction of the chief execution of hubli
unit required assistance & guidance is sought from the
corporate training center. Sometime it also seeks the
assistance of outside faculty including that of corporate
training center. The training center is equipped with over
head projects, T.V. V.C.R. & Computer, class room &
conference room.

PERSONNEL POLICIES OF KEC

The personnel polices of KEC are formulated in the


head office Bangalore by chairmen & managing directors.
These polices are implemented in all the units, periodically
the officers of HRD department visit the different units to
conduct survey & collect the feed back. Based on this feed

back the personnel polices may be incorporated only by the


HRD department. Which is again based on the feed back?

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION OF MAN POWER:


At Kirloaskar Electric Company recruitment and
selection of personnel should be based on the criteria of

training and development center, trade apprentices
selection and by direct recruitment.
