The people are seated in preparation for worship.

GREETING AND WELCOME

W
elcome members, friends, guests, sisters and brothers in Christ!
Whether this is your first time or you’ve been here many times before,
thank you for joining us in worship this morning!

Because we strive to show equal respect for all preferences in worship music,
Spiro UMC offers a blended style of worship and celebration. We select songs and
hymns meaningful to every age group via a balanced music selection consisting
of (a) the great classic hymns written 1520-1870; (b) the old gospel hymns
written 1871-1935; and (c) the three generations of contemporary praise songs
written 1960-1978, 1978-1995, and 1995 to today.

May today’s ministry offer you the opportunity to grow spiritually, and uplift and
encourage you as we share together in fellowship. May your burdens be lifted,
may you feel comforted, and as the Lord reveals His plan and purpose in your
lives, may you be inspired and encouraged to become all He wants you to
become.

Please be sure to complete the attendance pads as they are passed, and relax,
you’re among friends, family, and community at Spiro’s First United Methodist
Church.

God bless you and keep you - may His light continue to shine upon you.

CALL TO WORSHIP Worship Leader

From Psalm 126 (847 UMH)

Leader: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.

All: Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue
with shouts and joy.

Leader: Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them

All: The Lord Has done great things for us; we are glad! Amen!

† OPENING HYMN Congregation

“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” 298 UMH

When I survey the wondrous cross

On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

† OPENING PRAYER

All: God of the covenant,

in the glory of the cross your Son
embraced the power of death
and broke its hold over your people.
Forgive us where we have failed Thee;
In this time of repentance,
draw us and all people to yourself,
that we who confess Jesus as Lord
may put aside the deeds of sin and death,
and accept Your mercy and empowering grace,
to live the life of your kingdom.

Amen.

† CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH

“The Apostle’s Creed” 881 UMH

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the
dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion
of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and
the life everlasting. Amen.

† Response “Gloria Patri” (Glory Be to the Father) # 70 UMH

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
World without end Amen. Amen.

OFFERING

“Beneath the Cross of Jesus” 298 UMH

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand, the shadow of a
mighty rock within a weary land; a home within the wilderness, a rest upon
the way, from the burning of the noon-tide heat, and the burden of the day.
Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see the very dying form of
One who suffered there for me; and from my stricken heart with tears two
wonders I confess: the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.
I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine
than the sunshine of his face; content to let the world go by, to know no gain
nor loss, my sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

† DOXOLOGY

“Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow” 95 UMH

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow,

Praise Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

All: Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory
forever.

AMEN.

PRAYER RESPONSE

“Come Into My Heart O Lord Jesus” (2 Times)

HYMN OF PREPARATION Congregation

“My Jesus I Love Thee” 172 UMH

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;

For Thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I love Thee because Thou has first loved me,

And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree.
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight,

I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

“Extravagant Worship”

INVITATION HYMN

“Take My Life and Let it Be” 399 UMH

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.

Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

HOLY COMMUNION

(Celebrant)

Christ our Lord invites to his Table all who love him, who earnestly repent of
their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess
our sin before God and one another.

CONFESSON & PARDON

(All)

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole
heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done
your will. We have broken your law. We have rebelled against your
love. We have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the
cry of the needy

Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus

Christ our Lord. Amen.

(All pray in silence)

(Celebrant)

Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that
proves God's love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are
forgiven!

(All)

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

Glory to God. Amen.

(Celebrant)

On the night in which he gave himself up for us,

he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples, and said:
"Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me."

When the supper was over, he took the cup,

gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
"Drink from this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me."

And so,
in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving,
as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ's offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith:

(All)

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

(Celebrant)

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,

and on these gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ,
redeemed by his blood.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,

one with each other,
and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory
and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father,
now and for ever.

(All)

Amen.
(The worship team served first then the congregation).
