Google Indonesia announced on Wednesday that it had added 23 cities to the number of
locations available across the country on its Google Maps application, to help travelers during
the Muslim holiday of Idul Fitri.
Previously, Google Maps users could only access real-time traffic information in 19 big cities
in Indonesia, including Semarang, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Denpasar, Bali.
Our purpose is so that the travelers can find the fastest route to go to their destinations,
Google Indonesia program management director Suren Ruhela said as quoted by tempo.co.
During Idul Fitri, many people travel to their parents or relatives houses in villages. This
ritual has led to an increase of traffic outside big cities.
Google Maps is an app developed by Google to update users on traffic conditions. The app
also includes information on accidents, road maintenance and road blockages. (ika)(++++)

Google Inc. introduced a new logo on Wednesday, the seventh time since the internet giant
started in 1998, the firm stated in a blog post.
The new logo is not too different from the old one as the change only appears in the font. It
uses the San Serif font, without any lighting and shadow effects.
However, it still uses the same colors for each letter. It is reported that the new logo is similar
with the one used by its parent company, Alphabet.
Today were introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows
you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens, Google said in
the companys official blog post.
Google has been evolving for the past 17 years. For its first logo in 1998, Google founders
Larry Page and Sergey Brin created a logo for their Stanford University graduate project with
an exclamation mark at the end. In the same year, it changed again adding a male character in
the middle. The last change in 1998 included the additional word beta in the logo as Google
shared its beta release.
In May 1999, the logo used the Catull typeface and added shadow effects to the letters. In
May 2010, the logo was brighter as it sported a reduced drop shadow. In 2013, the logo went
flat with some typographical tweaks. In its latest change, the logo includes the Google dots
and G icon.
The company affirmed that the change wont be the last with the latest change reflecting how
Google worked with its features, such as Maps, Gmail, Chrome and others. (edn/ika)(++++)

Although many companies are pouring money into social media to market their goods, the
recommendations of friends and family remain the top driver of purchasing decisions, a study
released Thursday found.
"Direct word-of-mouth recommendations from friends and family are by far the most
important source of information for customers thinking about buying a product or service,"
said a study by Boston Consulting Group.
In fact, it found such brand advocacy to be about four or five times more influential than
traditional and social media in making purchases.
The study was based on a survey of 227,000 consumers across the world, including the
United States, France, Germany and Japan.
It showed half of consumers said they most often consult friends and family before making
purchases. Company websites followed at 39 percent, and blogs at 35 percent. Television
came in alongside newspapers and magazines at 13 percent, and social media 10 percent.
With recommendations from family and friends also a considerable motor for sales growth, it
found customer loyalty programs and customer experience were important.
The report also found that satisfied customers spent more.
