What is meant by disability?

Based on what is stated from WHO, disability can be defined as inability of a person in doing
some kind of activities as a normal person. This kind of condition could be caused by the
inability of that person both psychologically and physiologically. Furthermore, taken from
Glosarium Penyelenggaran Kesejahteraan Sosial in 2009, disability also can be defined as a
problem of someone in performing a task because of their impairment condition. Specifically
stated from regulation No.4 year 1997 about disability, people who have disability are those
people with inability in hearing, seeing, walking, or could be thinking rationally and so on. From
those definitions, I can conclude that people with disability are those people who have limitation
physically, mentally and intellectually in long term where this kind of problem could make them
difficult to undertake some actions as how normal people usually do.
Although people with disability cannot do some actions normally, we have to realize that
those kinds of people are existed around us. They need to be appreciated. Our moral supports are
really important in order to make them passionate in life. Because of that, I argue that there are
three reasons of why we need to care those people with disability:
1. There are actually categorized as extraordinary people.
If we look closely to those people with disability, disability people are actually
extraordinary. They are extraordinary because their physic and mental disability is unique; not
all people can have this condition. Since they are extraordinary differ from those normal
people, we should care to them. We need to give special respond and treatment to them. Every
time we see people with disability, be remember that they are extraordinary. Never ever
underestimate them! Help and appreciate them!
2. There have potential.
As human, even though you have disability, you must have any potential or talent.
Remember that! If we aware of it, people with disability even can achieve more brilliant
achievement than those normal people. Lets say for example Brian Wilson, a member of The
Beach Boy Band, he is a song a brilliant songwriter who actually have problem in hearing.
And look at Lena Maria Klingvall, a professional swimmer from Sweden who were born
without hands and only has one leg but successfully got many gold medals in both national
and international swimming competition. Need more! Look at Italo Romano, a skateboarder
who does not have legs.

If you want more, there are thousands people with disability have great achievement
because of their talent. Like what was said by Ludwig van Beethoven on his quote, The
barriers are not erected which can say to aspiring talents and industry, Thus far and no
farther. From this, we must aware that disability people have talent and if we hone their
talent correctly, they must become great people.
3. It is a mandate for us to help them
Helping those people with disability is a must for us. If not us, who else? As a human, we
must help them sincerely. You, yourselves need to recognize that they are human like us, so
helping them is our duty.
