By using this cell, researchers can run experiments free from gasificationed
steam. Also, researchers can get rid of influence of oxygen in the cell by
bubbling nitrogen gas. This features are well suited for measurements by ultra

[ How to Set Up ]
1. Place a plate sample on a lower side teflon block of the cell.
Applicable plate dimensions: W: 10-20 mm, T: ~3 mm
2. Put another teflon block on the sample, and drive two screws evenly
to fix the plate. Liquid contact area depends on inner diameter of
the O-ring. Deliver approximately 1 mL of electrolyte after fixing the
plate.
3. Attach a Pt counter electrode and a reference electrode to the cell
by setting them onto a cell cap. We would recommend you to twist
up the Pt part appropriately if the counter electrode is longer.

Working Electrodes for Flow Cell
Our Working electrodes for flow cell are mounted on blocks of PEEK. This resin
protects the electrodes from external noise and allows researchers to utilize
them regardless the content of mobile phase of HPLC because of their hard,
organic solvent-resistance. Glassy carbon is usually chosen for the redox
reaction study on liquid chromatography. Platinum, Gold, Carbon paste and
Nickel electrodes are utilized for special purposes.

Spectroelectrochemical cell
Spectroelectrochemistry (SEC) is aimed at the investigation of electrochemical
reaction mechanism and the interface structure between electrolyte solution
and electrode. Remarkable progress in this field and related technology enables
SEC to be applied in wide areas. Nowadays, the relation between absorbance
and potential for reversible or quasi-reversible system is theoretically
elucidated, on which basis the analysis of electrochemical characteristics
becomes possible for the system otherwise difficult with only the result of

Pt working electrode
On the left, 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm optical path length quartz cell are shown. On
the right, Pt working electrode with the dimension is shown. For 0.5 mm, as for
1.0 mm, you should select the working electrode (Pt or Au) appropriate for your
research purpose.
Note: There is a specific working electrode for 0.5 mm optical path length. The
working electrode for 1.0 mm optical path length can not be used in 0.5 mm
optical path length quartz cell.
Comparison of electrolytic speed in function of optical path length
2 mM potassium ferrocyanide (K4[Fe(CN)6]) was subjected to an electrolysis
reaction at 0.6 V until its stability, and 1 M KNO3 was used as a reference. The
oxidation reaction was monitored by the comparison of the absorbance in
function of the time at wavelengths of 420 and 300 nm.

Schematic view of flow cell (thin layer flow channel, light pass and working
electrode) is shown below. Working electrodes (ITO, platinum mini-grid, and gold
mini-grid) are replaceable. UV or visible light is introduced via optical-fiber from
light source and the absorbed light is transferred into CCD via optical-fiber.
Example of spectrum change during oxidation-reduction of ferrocene by CV is
shown below.

Contents of PK-3 can be provided separately. In that case, each polishing pad (A001040 Alumina polishing pad/A-001041 Diamond polishing pad) includes 20
pieces of them per the sales unit.
1. Prepare the glass plate, and put a few drops of polishing diamond
on diamond polishing pad.
2. Hold the CV electrode at right angle to the pad, and polish in a
circular motion.
3. Replace the diamond pad to an alumina polishing pad, put a few
drops of polishing alumina, and polish the electrode to be mirror
surface. Rinse the electrode surface with distilled water, and finish
by air drying.
Attention: Polishing with PK-3 is the most appropriate way to clean up electrode
surface. Please consult us when other methods are applied.
Polishing of PFCE Electrode & Pyrolytic Graphite Electrode
PFCE electrode can regain its electrochemical sensitivity and reproducibility by
polishing with Emery paper sic#4000. After the polishing, please clean its
surface with ultrasonic cleaner for 10-60 seconds (@ frequency: 50 kHz, output
power: 100 W). PFCE electrode is a significantly competent electrode. In order to
keep its performance from going to be eroded, we recommend re-polishing after
a certain period of time.
Use of distilled water is required during this procedure. Sic#2000 grade emery
paper is used at the preliminary stage only for persistent stain.
The EuroCellTM is a complete, ready-to-run electrochemical cell for corrosion measurements. The sample,
usually a cylinder, is secured to a threaded steel rod. The EuroCell will accept any sample that can be drilled
and tapped with a 3-48 thread. It's available in both (1) an unjacketed model and (2) a jacketed version to
control the temperature of the electrochemical experiment.
The EuroCell was designed for experiments with electrolyte volumes from 50-200 ml. Traditionally, corrosion
experiments are performed in a one-liter flask such as the MultiPort Corrosion Cell Kit, using electrolyte
volumes of 750-900 ml. The practice of using large volumes has evolved from standardized procedures such
as ASTM G5 for Potentiodynamic Anodic Polarization Measurements. The only technical reason to employ high
electrolyte volumes is to minimize contamination by the corrosion products.
A photo of the EuroCell is shown below. There are five ports: a 24/40 ground-glass joint, two #7 Ace-Threds,
and two 14/20 ground-glass joints. The central 24/40 ground glass joint supports the cylindrical Working
Electrode (your corrosion sample) in the Sample Holder. The Reference Electrode Bridge Tube and the
Counter Electrode and the Bubbler are all mounted in the Ace-Threds, which allow them to be adjusted
vertically to accommodate a wide range of sample volumes. The vertical adjustment is also handy to make sure
your Reference Electrode Bridge Tube is placed close to the surface of your corrosion sample. The Bubbler is
contained in the 14/20 joint and has one position for deaeration and another for blanketing. The standard
Counter Electrode is a graphite rod. It is also possible to use a platinum counter electrode. A bridge tube
containing a platinum counter electrode is available (Part No. 990-194) to prevent products from the counter
electrode from contacting products from the working electrode. We included an additional 14/20 port for a
thermometer or other accessory.
Cylindrical samples for the EuroCell can be fabricated in your lab or, for convenience, can be purchased
directly from Metal Samples, a commercial supplier of corrosion samples for testing.
