Isolvedaverysimilarproblemonmynetworklastnight:LinksysWRT54G
RouterV1.03XPProMachines1Win7machineAllwereworking,pingingand
sharingfineuntilIreplacedtherouterwithaWRT54GV8.0.Afterthat,Icould
onlypingsomemachinesfromsomeothers,andcouldnotshareanydrivesor
printers.Iwaspositivethishadtobearouterproblem,butitturnsoutitwasa
weirdMcAfeefirewallissue(probablysomethingtodowithhowMcAfeerelates
totheroutersMACaddress).Thesolutionthatworkedformewasasfollows:
TherangeoftrustednetworksintheMcAfeeFirewallsettingswascorrect
(192.168.1.1>192.168.1.255).However,aftertryingeverythingelseIcould
thinkof,IdeletedtherulethatallowedthistrustedrangewithintheMcAfee
Firewallsettings.Ithenrecreateditexactlyasitwas,andVoila!Icouldnow
pingthatcomputerfromeveryothercomputer.Ididthesameonallmachines
andtheproblemwassolved.Ihopethishelpssomeone.

andsomePublic.
IsuspectabugintheMcAfeeupdateasithadhappenedtoseveralPCs.Oneofthemwastotally
messedup,withhundredsofbizarreranges.It'sgoingtotakeanagetoremovethemall.

Iresolvedtheproblem.HadthesameproblemwithmynewLinksysrouter.
Itisnottherouter,itisyourcomputerfirewall.IuseNortonandyouneedto
configurethefirewallnetworkingtrustedaddresses.EnterthenonrouteableIP
rangethatyourwirelessnetworkisusinge.g.192.168.1.100tosay
192.168.1.110.IdonotuseWindowsFirewall,butIpresumeithassimilar
settings.Iamnowabletosharefilesandprinteragain.NexttimeIbuyarouter

workingandonthisrouterwhereitisnotworking.However,underSecurity|Firewall,Block
AnonymousInternetRequestswasnotcheckedathomebutcheckedonthisotherrouter.I
uncheckeditandnowsomeofthePCslisttheothersintheNetworklist.Theonewiththeprinter,
however,doesnothavetheotherslistedandtheothersstillcan'taccessthatsharedprinter.So,I
havemoreworktodo,thoughwedidmakesomeprogress.

IjusthookedupaLinksyswirelessroutertoatwoprinter,twoXPLANnetwork.
Previously,aLinksyswiredrouterwasthehubandworkedperfectlyfine.Thisis
thesecondwirelessrouterbrandI'vetriedwiththeexactsameresults.The
networksharestheprintersandsomesharedsoftware/filesfromthehost
computer.Thisisnotahomenetwork,onlymappeddrivestosoftwareand
sharedprinters.Allarewired(planonhookinginwithawirelesslaptoponcethis
issueisfixed).Bothcomputerscanpingtheprintersandrouter.ComputerA
(host)canpingcomp.B(client).However,computerBcannotpingA.Windows
firewallsareoffonbothcomputers.TheIPaddressarefineandsoarethe
subnetmaskids.Literally,ifIunplugthewirelessrouterandreinstallthewired
router,theproblemissolved.Anythoughts.IfigureithastobeafirewallonA
butcan'tfigureoutwhere.ICMPboxesarecheckedforincomingechorequests
onboth.HELP!

beonthesamenetwork.Gotostartmenu,rightclickComputer(Vista)orMy
Computer(XP)andselectProperties.InVista,changetheworkgroupnameso
they'rethesameonbothcomputers.InXP,inthepropertieswindowsgoto
ComputerNametabandchangeworkgroupnameonbothcomputers.Both
computersarenoonthesamenetwork,butthecomputermustberestartedfor
changestotakeeffect.Also,ifyouwanttoenableprinterandfilesharing,forXP
openwindowsexplorer(startmenu>allprograms>accessories>windows
explorer).IntheleftwindowfindtheCdriveandrightclickandchoose"sharing
andsecurity..."andinthepropertieswindowunderSharingtab,clickthe
bottomsentence.Inthe"Networksharingandsecurity"window,checkthe
"Sharethisfolderonthenetwork"boxandthennamethefolderwhatyouwant.
Ifyouwant,youcanallowothersonthenetworktochangefilesbyclickthe
"Allownetworkuserstochangemyfiles"box...otherwise,leaveitunchecked.
ClickOKandyounowhaveanetworksharingfolder.Gothroughthesame
processontheothercomputer(ifrunningXP)toenableprinterandfilesharing
ontheretoo.OnVista..well,you'llhavetolookitupcauseIcan'trememberat

changingthesecurityfromWPAtoWPA2justbeforethehousemove,althougheverything
'appeared'normalImusthavelosttheconnectionsbetweenPCsatthattimeandnotdiscoveredit.I
changedthesecuritybacktoWPAandheypresto,allPCscouldtalktoeachotheragain.Hopeit
works.....Iknowitsfrustrating.
