To anyone having difficulty or confusion, I'll put the installation steps as CLE
ARLY as possible here. nerd
1. Remove existing anti-virus software.
2. Run CCleaner's registry cleaner (or just any registry cleaner; I trust and us
e CCleaner 100%), which removed multiple ESET registry files that were leftover
after uninstall. (This is important step if you were using ESET before, especial
ly a cracked version which modifies the registry files. So cleaning the registry
will remove any conflicts with the current crack you will apply to this ESET v8
).
3. Install ESET. (I have installed Smart Security x64 on Win 8.1 and will guaran
tee it will work for you, if you have the same). After installation completes ES
ET will ask you to register. Choose 'Activate later' option.
4. Now disable the antivirus protection (Right-click ESET logo in taskbar and se
lect 'Disable protection; choose 1 hour or more) and unzip the Mara fix.
5. Run the .exe file in the Mara folder. (Application logo is ESET logo). If it
asks to run as administrator, right-click it and select the 'run as administrato
r' option. Select Ok button in the next pop-up.
6. The application will ask you to disable 'HIPS' and 'self-defense' (which are
protection modules in ESET). Now open ESET and go through the below path:
Setup -> Enter Advanced setup (scroll down a bit if not visible immediately)
7. A menu with some expandable options will be displayed in a new window. Expand
the first option 'Computer' (click on the plus-shaped button to its left).
8.Click on HIPS option. Now, in the right pane, the first two check boxes called
'Enable HIPS' and 'Enable self-defense' are given. Un-check them both. (Click o
n the tick marks to their left, and the ticks will disappear). When you disable
HIPS, ESET will tell you to "Restart to make changes". Select 'Ok'. Disable 'sel
f-defense' next. Select the OK button on the bottom of the window. Some pop-up w
ill appear. Select 'Ok' button.
9. Now run the Mara crack application again.
10. It will say something like "everything Ok" and the button on the bottom-righ
t will work now. Select Fix-it. (For some reason, when I did this, the crack app
lication closed and ESET also crashed. I panicked a bit LOL but I started ESET a
gain. Just run the ESET from desktop or the ESET installed path. Now, run the Ma
ra crack again. Select Fix-it button on the bottom. Now, it will say processing.
Wait for like 5 seconds and notice two ESET logos on the task bar now. Don't pa
nic as this is NORMAL according to the crack developer. Hover your mouse over to
the logos and one of them will disappear.
11. If everything went well, ESET will not ask you now to activate/register. It
will say virus signatures are out-of-date. Update the signatures. (For me it upd
ated the first time itself, but the crack developer warns it might not work prop
erly for the first time. Try updating multiple times. Once it gets updated to cu
rrent date, your ESET A/V is now fully working!!!
Now don't forget to enable HIPS and self-defense in ESET. That's it!!!
I hope the above instructions are clear enough, and it helps at least 1 person t
o install this software. I have been using ESET for more than 10 years. I have n
ever lost any files to a Virus/trojan/whatever. I highly recommend this A/V to e
veryone.
By the way, ESET will do a first-time scan of the entire system. This will take
LOOOOOONG. So, wait patiently. Leave your system on, if necessary. After this, i
t won't bother you again, except for startup scans, when windows starts.
And I did't bother with the TNOD crack. I believe its as a backup in case Mara f
ix doesn't work.
