I feel it is such a privileged place I get to sit as a member of this community and
as the Priest during the most remarkable times in your lives and that of your
families. Most often those remarkable times are also vulnerable times. The
death of a loved one particularly is a most difficult and fragile time.
Vulnerabilities are so on show during these times. But it is a privilege to be part
of the journey with your families at these difficult times. Each family is different
of course as is each family member being fare-welled is different and unique and
this is often reflected in the ceremony and the grieving process; the need for
support and encouragement remains the same however.
I am grateful for the members of this worshipping community who are able to
be present at funerals even when you dont necessarily know the person or
know them well. We are a universal community that takes seriously its mission
to be as Paul calls us the body of Christ: a communion of people that loves
enough of its self to be present to support people in need at their most
vulnerable, fragile, needy times. Few of us could say that we havent been there
so we are in the box set as it were to empathise and support.
The Words of Remembrance give us an insight into the life of the person so our
prayer does have a more personal context but even without that we are able to
simply place these people before the love of our God. It is no pious platitude.
How hard it is to stand before a church full of people and be so vulnerable and
open about love and the sadness of saying till we meet again.
Families often mention that they appreciate that we pray for their loved family
member in our Masses, particularly on Sunday. They are grateful for the
prayerful support. It blows me away that they notice strangers at their family
funerals and are staggered that someone would want to come and be part of
this day. It blows them away to know that we care so much. I simply say it is
what our community does for each other. I think it is a privilege to be able to do
what Christ asks of us even for the stranger. On another note however it is part
of our work to proclaim our love of Christ and our need to share that love with
others. Keep doing what you do.

young at heart) Family Group
has been meeting for events,
activities and support for the
last 24 years. It consists of
approximately 30 individuals or
families. Its purpose is
friendship and fellowship.
Monthly activities often involve
eating - an afternoon tea,
movies followed by a coffee at a
local venue, picnics, quiz
afternoons, a luncheon out and
about or at someones home.
We invite any person or family,
new/senior parishioners to join
us for our next activity to see
what our Family Group is all
about.

Funeral Notice
The life of Lauranne Bryne (wife
of Greg our Pastoral Associate)
will be celebrated in a Mass of
Christian Burial on Monday 12
October at 10.30am in St Mary
Star of the Sea Tuncurry. You are
also invited to attend the wake
following the Mass in the
Tuncurry Bowling Club, Parke
Street. Lauranne will be laid to
rest in the Tuncurry Lawn
cemetery, Tuncurry.
You are also invited to attend a
Prayer service on Sunday evening
11 October at 7.00pm in the Parish
Hall, Lake Street, Forster followed
by supper. You are invited to bring
a plate to the Hall to share.
Lauranne was a devoted wife,
mother,
daughter,
sister,
grandmother and friend to so
many. A kind and generous lady
who shared her faith as a member
of our Parish Community for
many years, as well as sharing
faith as a staff member in our
parish School at Holy Name
Catholic School in Forster. The list
of people she has touched is
endless.
In lieu of flowers donation to the
cancer
council
appreciated.

TODAY - International Day of the Girl Child 11th October

The United Nations International Day of the Girl Child promotes girls' human
rights, highlights gender inequalities that remain between girls and boys and
addresses the various forms of discrimination and abuse suffered by girls
around the world.
Over 60 million girls worldwide are forced into marriage before the age of 18
125 million girls and women worldwide have undergone female genital
mutilation/cutting (FGM/C)
1.2 million children are being trafficked each year many of these children
are girls forced into sex trafficking
Pregnancy is the leading cause of death worldwide for women aged 15 to 19
Literacy rates for girls in many countries remain low just 12% of Afghan
women aged 15 and over are literate
